Chapter Revelation
Diana
“What?” My mouth hung open, there was so much I wanted to know. Was this mate alive? How come Red didn’t mention it before?
“You heard me.”
“I-I-Red-I mean Loki never mentioned anything to me.”
“Probably a detail he wanted to leave out.” Eric scratched the back head.
“Who is she-” Just before I could finish my sentence, I felt a warm wave pulse through me. My heart raced as my stomach churned. The blood rushed to my face as I placed my hand on my abdomen. Stars clouded my vision as the churning ball travelled up my windpipe.
I had to turn away.
I couldn’t face Eric, not like this.
I was going to…
“Diana!” Eric reached to help me, but it was too late, I was already bending over, puking out my previous meal all over the grass. I was thankful no one was around to see this, but just as I finished, I felt myself working up again.
“Let me get Damian.” Eric held my hair back as I continued dry heaving.
“No,” I gripped onto Eric’s arm as I stood up straight, wiping the remanence from my mouth, “I need to walk this off, like you said, give him space.”
“Your sick Diana! He won’t care.”
“Probably something I ate, just walk with me?”
Eric raised his eyebrows and sighed heavily, “If you insist.”
The entire walk back to the house made the nausea a little better, but I was still on a thin line. I was too sick to continue our conversation. I had to focus on getting to bed.
“Thanks Eric, I’ll take it from here.” I patted Eric on the shoulder as I stepped inside my bedroom.
“Are you sure your alright?” He looked me up and down curiously as he stood in the doorway. He looked concerned, but there was nothing more that he could do. I just needed the sleep.
“No, I’m ok, and I’m sure Damian will be back soon.” Just as Eric was about to turn away, I spoke up, “Eric?”
“Yes?” The way he looked at me sometimes reminded me of Damian. He was loyal, had his quirky ways, but he was someone I could always rely on. Maybe that’s why we got close at the beginning. He was so easy to talk to.
“Thanks for everything, maybe we can continue that conversation another day?”
He nodded his head, “Of course, and be well Diana, I’m always close by.”
I let out a small smile before closing the door. I couldn’t believe I held it in for that long. I ran to the bathroom as fast as I could, bursting through the bathroom door to the toilet that was just in reach.
Thankfully, I made it right on time.
After a few more dry heaves and unpleasantries, I brushed my teeth and got changed into one of Damian’s oversized t-shirts. Just inhaling the cotton fabric made my mind and body at ease. I wasn’t sure what the hell was wrong with me today, but I decided I’ll be spending the rest of the day in bed.
I was already cocooned in the duvet by the time I climbed into bed. It was like I was floating on a cloud; it was so damn comfy. My eyes were already flickering closed within a minute of resting my head on the pillow.
Although I was tired, I was still thinking about everything today. I was curious about the conversation regarding Red and Eric. Who was this mystery mate they were fighting over? Eric was still single, so I suppose she was dead. Or maybe she ran away?
“Di?” Suddenly, Damian’s voice appeared out of no where. I hadn’t realized he came in, maybe I already dozed off in a semi-conscious slumber.
“Right here.” I whispered.
“Eric told me you were sick.”
I flickered my eyes open, “He what?”
“He told me you threw up.” Suddenly, Damian’s warm body was hovering over me. He was shirtless with just shorts on, it was obviously apparent he shifted recently.
“Did the big bad Alpha let his beast out?”
“Look Di, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to act like that, it’s just-”
“No need to explain, but I appreciate the apology.” I gave a small smile and brought my arms out from the heavy blanket.
Damian planted himself behind me, holding me close to his warm body. “It’s just…I miss her Di; I miss her so fucking bad…”
“Your mother?”
“Yea….” He sighed heavily as he tightened his grip around me. I never seen Damian so emotional, and I was going to let him take his time with opening to me about her.
“It’s ok, if you’re not ready to talk about her, then take your time…”
“Di, I need to tell you something.”
“What?” I deeply inhaled and held my breath. I was scared with what he was about to tell me, was it another bombshell?
“She was everything to me, she was my world, and when she died, a piece of me died with her. I only was able to fully recover when I found you.”
“Really?”
“Yes, and not a day goes by where I don’t thank the gods for meeting you, but that’s not what I was referring to… You remind me of my mother so much its insane, and seeing you wearing the gear today reminded me of her... I fucking lost it. I’m so sorry…”
“Don’t be sorry Damian, its ok.” I grabbed onto his hand and lightly squeezed.
“Di.” He hesitated briefly, “she was the former Luna of Crimson pack.”
My heart skipped a beat when I heard the words. Was he serious? I turned myself around to face him. His face was calm, and his eyes were narrowed in on mine. He was focused and determined to let his heart out, and I would try my best to contain my emotions as he finished.
“So that would mean…Holden is your brother?” My eyes widened at the thought.
Damian was Holden’s brothers?! They were opposite in every way how was this so?
“Half brother.” He grumbled like saying it out loud disturbed him. “I found out right before my mother died.”
“Why didn’t you tell me earlier?”
“NO fucking clue.” He looked down, ashamed, “I didn’t want to scare you, I didn’t want you to think I was like him…” I could feel his anger, and his disappointment of sharing the same blood with him.
Yes, I was blinded sided by the revelation, but I didn’t want to show him that. I wanted to support him just as he has supported me through these past few weeks. I couldn’t help the tears running down my face.
“You’re NOTHING like him.” I wrapped my arms around his neck and pulled him into me.
“I’m sorry I didn’t tell you until now. It kills me to say it.”
“Look.” I pulled his face to mine and looked straight into his eyes, “Maybe you share the same blood, but that doesn’t matter, he doesn’t matter, what matters is your pack, your REAL family, not the blood you share.”
“Its ironic Di, its strange… Its -”
“Is it ironic because I was his first mate? Just as your mother with his father?”
“Yes, like history is somehow repeating itself, and it scares me to death.”
“That’s the past. This is the present, we create our future.” I sternly said the words. I wasn’t going to let him doubt and be scared. Usually it was Damian reassuring me, but this time, I was going to be the reassuring voice.
“I’m going to kill him before anything happens.”
I wanted to continue the conversation, and I had so many more questions for him, but once again, my stomach began swirling into another flaming ball that wanted to bubble up. To relieve myself I relaxed my body in Damian’s arms and placed my head in his chest.
It was heavenly.
I just needed to rest.
I just found out he was Holden’s half-brother, and I was sleepy. What the hell was wrong with me?
“You cold?” He brought his arms around me and pulled me in tighter.
“Just feeling under the weather, maybe it was something I ate.”
“You should have told me you were sick; I would be there no matter what, I’ll take care of you Di. Remember that.” He hugged me tightly, spooning my cold body to warmth.
“I’ve never seen you cold before, are you sure you’re ok?”
“I’m warm now Hun.” I sighed heavily as I cuddled up to him.
“Hun? That’s a new one.”
“Just going with the flow, I guess… Hun.” I chuckled lightly.
“Call me whatever you want.” He kissed the top of my head and ran his hand down the side of my arm. I felt the same sparks that I always felt, and every time was a unique experience, always different then before.
“Are you?” I felt something hard poking through his cotton shorts.
“Cause I’m close to you,” He chuckled, “I can’t help it.”
“Oh-” I glanced down at it briefly, I was tired, but I suppose I could muster enough energy to release him…
“Di, we don’t always have to do that. You’re more to me then just sex. I mean… I love it, and I could live the rest of eternity confined to these walls with you, but you’re not feeling well and need your rest. Just try to sleep. I can sense your weakness. Just sleep my love.” He lightly kissed the top of my head again.
He was right, I was all those things plus more then he could imagine. Something wasn’t sitting right in my stomach, but I suppose sleep was the best thing for me right now. My muscles were becoming more relaxed, and my body was warmed from his heat as I listened to his heavy breathing.
As more time went on, I felt myself slipping away into the dark abyss of my mind.
“I don’t know what I would do without you…” I whispered.
“I don’t know what I would do without you Di.” Damian’s voice started to fade away as my body completely succumbed to exhaustion. “I love you.”
