Chapter 22
Chapter Twenty Two: He Trusts Me
Despite Declan’s ultimatum, Edith was too afraid to apologize, hoping somehow luck would be on her side. Back at home, Alexander and Isabella found Amella and Miles still immersed in lessons with
their nanny.
In the study, Isabella didn’t bring up Edith’s antics. “You really trust me that much? Aren’t you worried I might steal your company’s secrets?” With
a warm smile, Alexander wrapped her in his arms. “You’re my everything, I have no reason to worry about that.” Her laughter filled the room. That’s not always a given, you know.”
Alexander soothed her, patting her back gently. “I won’t let anything bad happen to you, promise.”
Isabella gazed up at him. “It’s not about bad things happening. I just feel guilty for always causing you trouble.”
Alexander comforted her. “It’s not trouble. I knew she was the culprit even without investigating. Thank you for believing in me so completely.” Alexander’s trust in Isabella wasn’t without its moments of doubt. When he first heard about the stolen company files, a wave of anxiety hit him. He worried that Isabella, the woman he was falling for, could be a spy sent by a competitor. But as Edith’s panic escalated, the truth became apparent, leading Alexander to apologize.
“Sorry, in my position, it’s hard not to overthink. When I heard it involved you, I had my doubts, concerned you might be working for another company.” Isabella totally understood his perspective. You don’t need to apologize. I would have thought the same in your place.” “It’s great having you here with me.” Isabella hugged him back. “I feel the same way.”
As they were enjoying their moment, Isabella’s phone chimed with a deposit notification. She checked the amount and was surprised. “Wow, I didn’t think Sebastian would actually agree.” Alexander nodded. “He didn’t hesitate when I spoke to him. Maybe we should have asked for more.” Isabella grinned at him. “You’re a true businessman, aren’t you?”
Alexander affectionately stroked Isabella’s hair. “I bet if you were handling the negotiations, you’d think the same way.” After all, everyone had a soft spot for money. As dinner time neared, the nanny was just finishing up the day’s lessons. Miles and Amelia, seeing the car in the driveway, realized their mother had returned. Amelia excitedly shouted for Isabella, trying to lure her outside.
“The kids have finished their lessons. How about we go out and see them?” Alexander remained silent, his embrace not loosening. He then leaned down, giving Isabella a soft kiss, and looked at her with a triumphant smile.
“You’re so sneaky!” “I’m just being honest.” Isabella’s heart skipped a beat, a feeling reminiscent of first love. To her surprise, falling in love again at this stage in life could still be so thrilling. “Should we go outside?” Isabella’s cheeks flushed and looked extremely cute. Alexander took his time, leaning in for another deep kiss, leaving them both gasping for air. As he finally let go, Isabella quickly slipped out of his arms and headed outside, with Alexander following her.
Amelia’s innocent eyes fixated on Isabella’s smudged lipstick. “Mommy, did you eat some

chocolate?” Isabella was puzzled. “Why do you think that?” Then Miles chimed in, “Your lipstick is all messed up, Mommy.”
Realizing the situation, Isabella hastily put Amelia down and hurried to the bathroom to check herself. Her lipstick was indeed smeared. She quickly tidied up and went back to see Alexander playing with the kids. Feigning annoyance, she sat down. “Why didn’t you tell me?” Alexander chuckled. “I thought you looked adorable.” “I’m not talking to you.” She turned to help in the kitchen.
Alexander, mistaking her jest for genuine upset, quickly excused himself from Miles. “You guys play. I’ll be right back.” Miles admired his father’s dedication to making his mother happy, a reassuring sign that she wouldn’t be wronged again. Amelia, calling out to Miles twice without response, finally tugged at his arm. “I want that, Miles.”
“Miles, are you okay? I called out to you twice, but you didn’t answer. Are you upset about something? I’ve been feeling a bit down too, since Mommy has been so busy with work and hasn’t had much time to play with us.‘
Miles shook his head. “No, it’s not that. I was just thinking about how you’re going to answer the teacher’s questions in class tomorrow.”
Amelia looked surprised and a bit anxious. She didn’t catch on to things in class as quickly as Miles, often needing to review the material several times. The thought of facing the teacher’s questions made her nervous, and it showed on her usually cheerful face. “What am I going to do? You have to help me out tomorrow, Miles. I don’t want to get in trouble with the teacher.”
Miles tried to comfort her. “Next time, just pay a bit more attention in class. And the teacher’s punishments aren’t too bad, it’s just extra writing. She does it to help you learn.”
The difference between boys like Miles and girls like Amelia was evident even at a young age. While Amelia wished Miles would help her cheat a little by giving her hints during the teacher’s questions, Miles believed in learning the material properly, so she wouldn’t have to be scared in the future.
Amelia had a strong desire to excel in her studies, but she often struggled to retain information. She couldn’t help but wonder if their mother had bestowed all the intelligence upon Andy when they were born, leaving her to struggle with her academics.
“I knew you wouldn’t help me, Miles,” she uttered, she threw her toy aside before making her way upstairs to study. Her determination to impress the teacher and avoid falling behind fueled her
resolve.
“Where are you going?”
“To study.”
Misinterpreting Amelia’s departure, Miles felt a pang of concern, assuming she was upset with him. Yet, her determination to study filled him with pride and relief.
Meanwhile, Alexander whispered to Isabella, “Are you really mad?” Isabella was busy cleaning a fish and waved off his offer to help. Alexander looked genuinely apologetic. “I should’ve told you. I was wrong.”

Sensing her discomfort, Alexander chose to remain silent, not wanting to exacerbate the situation.
“Why don’t you go outside and watch the kids? I’ve got this covered here.”
Alexander really wanted to help in the kitchen, but lacking cooking skills, he hesitated, finding enjoyment in watching Isabella cook; she always looked so graceful while doing it.
Isabella, well–versed in managing household chores and kids, found the tasks manageable. Starting from scratch was challenging, but she realized the significance of these skills for her kids‘ sake. Gradually, she found joy and fulfillment in motherhood despite the fatigue.
“Why are you still here?” Isabella glanced back at him.
“I just want to watch you.”
After completing her task, Isabella gently nudged Alexander out of the kitchen, encouraging him to spend time with the kids. “You’ll be in the way here. The kids need you more.”
A bit hesitant, Alexander went to join the kids.
Miles called out tentatively, “Daddy?”
Alexander sat with him, giving him a hug. “What’s up, buddy?“.
