Chapter Epilogue
Princess Evelyn was sleeping soundly under the watchful gaze of the moon. The young girl was tired from all the pressures that came with being the heir to a large, island kingdom. Between her ongoing battle strategy and etiquette lessons, she was starting to crack under the weight of her crown. She managed to keep her poise when greeted by the royals from the rival kingdoms, taking her stepmother’s words about upholding the pride of her nation to heart. But she wondered how much more she could tolerate being a princess before she inevitably lashed out.
Outside her window, a large red bird peers in from its perch on the stone ledge. The animal had been watching the princess for a while, taking in little details about the heir apparent. It noticed that she was fond of the color purple and practicing sword fights with the knights. The bird would watch her as she went about her daily life, envying how the princess took everything for granted. Much suffering that awaited the girl in the future, suffering that the red bird had to prevent.
But the avian creature wasn’t going to complete this mission alone. There were others just like her, animals that were also sent from the future to prevent doom. All she had to do was find them.
For now, she would watch the princess sleep.
Sweet dreams, the bird thought. I hope you dream of a happier future.
