Chapter 28
Abigail paced the hotel room thinking about what she should do. Rick was gone for more than half an hour now and she figured, she was probably the last person he’d want to talk to but she knew that what she said was for the best. She needed to distract him so she could focus on her job and not at taking his attention off of her and she’d like to think that now she’d accomplished both.
She turned and faced the balcony doors then. Maybe the fresh air would help her think. She started towards the doors when she noticed that it was open, but had been pushed in and hadn’t closed properly. She didn’t see Rick open it and she hadn’t either, so that left one other option: it was open when they got there. That’s how the note got on the bed. Someone came through the balcony doors. Those doors close but could not lock so it wouldn’t be difficult to get through.
Abigail walked through the doors and unto the balcony where she saw various streets and buildings. She looked to the right and saw the balcony that belonged to AJ and Sara and then wondered whose room was to her left. The balconies were pretty close together seeing that it was a hotel, so getting from one to the other would be pretty easy. So anyone, on any of the rooms on that floor, could have gotten in.
A knock sounded on the door then breaking Abigail away from her thoughts. Maybe it was Rick, she thought. She did notice that he left the key card on the table when he walked out. And she did feel a bit guilty for lying to him. She opened the door and her face fell when she saw Sara.
“Hi.”
“Well don’t look happy to see me.” Sara replied jokingly, “Can I come in?”
“Oh sure.” Abigail replied letting her in, “And please don’t take it personally, I thought It was Rick.”
“Oh.” Sara said understanding, “You two had an argument or something?” she asked sitting next to Abigail on the sofa.
“Yeah.” Abigail said with a sigh.
“You wanna talk about it?” Sara asked helpfully, “I’m a really good listener.”
Abigail smiled her thanks but shook her head.
“It’s kind of complicated right now.”
Sara nodded before getting up.
“You know,” she began turning towards Abigail again, “You and Rick have been hiding something from us.” She saw Abigail’s eyes widen slightly in surprise and rushed on, “I know it’s none of my business but,” she paused and sighed to sit back down, “I’d like to think that we’ve become really good friends since the tour started and I want you to know that you could tell me anything. I won’t even tell AJ!” she promised.
Abigail smiled.
“Thanks Sara. That really means a lot to me.” She told the older woman, “But as I said, it’s a bit complicated right now. But I promise I’ll tell you soon.”
“Okay, I guess I’ll have to accept that.” Sara stated.
Abigail nodded as Sara got up. She got up as well.
“And for future reference, you and Rick really need to get your stories straight. He said you two met in New York and you said you guys met in LA.”
“I know, I know.” Abigail said a bit embarrassed as she walked Sara to the door, “And thanks for helping me out the other morning at breakfast.”
Sara smiled. “No prob. You looked like you needed it.”
“I’m really sorry I can’t go into it with you right now.” Abigail said as they paused at the door.
Sara put up a hand.
“It’s okay. Whenever you’re ready, you know where to find me.”
Abigail opened the door for her then stopped her.
“By the way, do you know who’s staying in the room on the left?” she asked Sara.
Sara thought about it for a minute.
“I think it’s one of the BBKAY boys. They’re also on this floor.” She answered.
“Why?” she looked at Abigail suspiciously.
“I, uh, heard something strange coming from that room.” Abigail said quickly.
“Like what?”
“A noise? I’m not sure.”
Sara smiled at her and winked.
“You don’t like noises? I’ll try to keep it down tonight. AJ and I can get pretty loud sometimes.”
When Abigail’s eyes widened, she continued.
“Oh yeah. We’ve had neighbours complain at hotels we’ve stayed at before.”
“Thanks for the warning.” Abigail told her and watched as Sara smirked as she went into her room.
So Abigail and Rick were hiding something from them after all! Sara thought. She just wished she knew what!
