True Luna: The Darkness Within: Chapter 42

Hunter’s POV

I had never been in so much pain before.

She didn’t want me. She tensed up when I touched her. She wanted me to leave the room.

Why?

Why, Goddess, why?!

I wanted to scream. I wanted to let Holden out and let him tear everything down. I was so fucking angry and so fucking scared.

Why didn’t she want me? What did I do?

Another wave of pain washed over me and I grunted. I had to lean against the tree to stop myself from falling to my knees.

“Oh, honey,” my mom said quietly as she took my hand in hers.

She caressed my cheek and looked at my dad.

“Everything will be okay, bud,” my dad said quietly. “She is just in shock.”

Yes, but why didn’t she want me there? Why ask everyone to leave? Why didn’t she want me?

I wanted to run back in there and take her into my arms, but my heart would stop if I saw her flinch again. I was so fucking terrified that she wouldn’t want me anymore.

What did I do?

What the fuck did I do?!

“She is scared because of the things she did and said,” Mason mumbled, making us all look at him.

I furrowed my eyebrows. What?

“I mind-linked Alex and he told me,” Mason explained. “She called herself a murderer. She feels terrible because of the things she said to us.”

A murderer? She called herself a murderer?

She wasn’t a murderer! That thing did and said all of those things! She was my Angel. She was my perfect angel, not a fucking murderer!

I clenched my fists and growled.

I had to go talk to her. I had to tell her that she didn’t do anything wrong. I had to tell her that I would have done worse if those fuckers were alive when we got there.

I took a step toward the cabin when Mason grabbed my upper arm and stopped me.

I was going to bite his hand off!
“Give her a minute, Hunter,” Mason said quietly. “Alex knows what to do. He will calm her down a little and you will be able to go inside.”

I gulped and gritted my teeth.

“Mason is right, Hunter,” Alpha Logan said, his voice laced with worry. “Please give her a few minutes.”

Emma sniffled and Alpha Logan pulled her into his arms. He bent down and kissed the top of her head.

“She was always afraid of this,” Emma mumbled.

My heart clenched painfully. Emma was right. She was always afraid of hurting someone and now it came true. I couldn’t even imagine what she was going through. I couldn’t believe that my Angel had to go through that.

“It was justified,” Mason said. “She had a damn good reason for killing them all. We would have done the same. We would have done much worse.”

Mason was right. I would have tortured them. I would have kept them alive for years just so I could hurt them whenever I remembered the injuries on her body. I would have made them pay for every cut, every bruise, and every burn mark on her body. I would have become their worst nightmare. What she did was merciful compared to what I would have done.

But my Angel didn’t see it like that. She had to deal with the fact that that demon used her and her body to kill someone.

The pain that I felt was unbearable. The only one who could help was my Angel. I needed to feel her in my arms. I needed to kiss her and tell her that I loved her with my entire heart and soul.

“I don’t think that matters to her,” Beta Andrew said quietly. “She doesn’t see it like that.”

Of course she didn’t see it like that.

I tightened my jaw and buried my face into my hands.

“Try mind-linking her,” my dad told me as he put his hand on my shoulder. “You marked her. You can talk to her now. She won’t be able to respond, but you can reassure her.”

I thought about doing that, but I was so scared. What if she didn’t want to hear from me? What if she wanted nothing to do with me?

But I had nothing to lose, didn’t I?

I could at least tell her how fucking much I loved her. I could tell her that I didn’t care about anything other than having her back.

I gulped, took a deep breath, and released it slowly.

Angel. I mind-linked her. I know that you can’t respond, but I need to tell you how much I love you. I love you with my entire heart and soul. I am here for you and I will never leave.

I closed my eyes and tightened my jaw.

I love you, Sophia. I told her again. You are my greatest gift and my greatest treasure. I will never stop loving you. I promise.

I wished that she could respond. I wished that she could tell me to come inside. I wished that I could take her into my arms and kiss every part of her body. I wasn’t happy with telling her how much I loved her. I wanted to show it to her as well. I wanted to kneel in front of her and tell her that I would cherish her until the day I took my last breath.

I would do it. I would do it the first chance I got. I would kneel in front of her and promise to love her forever. I would make sure that she knew what she meant to me. I would make sure that she saw all the love I had for her.

“Alex asked to bring her something to eat,” Mason mumbled, interrupting my thoughts. “She hadn’t eaten in a while.”

I moved my hands from my face and looked up just in time to see my mom and Anna walking away.

“We will bring something,” my mom said. “We will be right back.”

I looked toward the entrance to the cabin. Would she let me see her soon? I couldn’t wait much longer. I needed to see her. I needed to hold her.

I needed her because she was the only one who could take the pain away.
