Caroline did not refute because she knew Evan’s personality very well. However, she remained uncertain
about her ability to move past their history and commit to him..
Before Caroline could find her answer, Paige spoke up. “Honestly, you should consider the kids, even if
you’re not thinking about yourself.”

A bitter smile formed on Caroline’s lips as she replied, “Whatever I can’t do, I still have Scott.”
Paige questioned, “What about Scott? A lasting relationship requires love. Do you love Scott?”
Caroline was at a loss for words.
“If you can’t answer that, it suggests that Evan has always held a place in your heart.”
Caroline sighed.
“Matters of the heart are beyond our control, It’s rare to find someone as level–headed as me in this world!
Paige bragged,
Caroline quipped, “Stop being so conceited.”
Paige burst into laughter.
At Pure Bar.
Alex convinced Evan to have a drink with him, where he tearfully complained about Paige’s relentless
treatment.
Evan responded casually. “The old must make way for the new.”

Taking a big gulp of his drink, Alex retorted, “Why don’t you apply that to yourself?”
Evan took a sip and stated, “I don’t need someone new. I’m going to win Caroline back.”
“Really?” Alex exclaimed. “Are you taking the initiative to win her back?”
Evan shot him a look and asked, “Is that a problem?”
“No problem! But, are you sure you can win her back? Caroline seems distant lately.”
Evan swirled his drink thoughtfully. “So what? I’m content as long as she remains herself.”

Alex couldn’t help but shiver.
“How did Evan suddenly become so infatuated? Nevertheless, this might be a good thing. After all,
Caroline put in all the effort before, so it’s Evan’s turn to experience unrequited love. Love isn’t easy, and
I’ve had my fair share of it!”
The following day, Evan hurried to the hospital carrying freshly–bought soup. As he was about to enter
Caroline’s room, he overheard her on the phone.
She spoke gently. “I’m feeling much better now. Don’t worry.”
Scott’s voice followed. “Did the children trouble you? I was concerned they’d be overly worried, so i
stopped them from coming. It seems my efforts were in vain.”
Caroline assured him, “They’ve been quite well–behaved. Thank you for looking after them.”
Scott replied, “It’s the least I can do. I wouldn’t find any effort for you burdensome.”
Caroline started to say something but was interrupted when someone called for Scott.
“I have to go to work. Rest well there,” he said and ended the call.

Evan stood outside with a serious expression. He had almost forgotten that Caroline had Scott, who had
cared for her for five years, aside from Neil.
The thought of the two children crossed his mind. ‘Could Tyler and Liora be Scott’s?
The idea briefly occurred to him, and Evan frowned, suppressing the unease in his heart. He refused to let doubt creep in again.
After regaining his composure, he entered the room.
Caroline looked up and saw Evan. She was slightly surprised. “You’re still here?”
Evan nodded casually and approached Caroline with the soup. “I assume you haven’t eaten yet. Here’s
some soup.”
Caroline’s stomach rumbled, the sound resonating in the quiet room. She blushed, but Evan pretended
not to notice.
He removed the lid and scooped up a spoonful of soup, bringing it to Caroline’s lips. “Take a sip.”
