Chapter 175
Marco slammed his desk hard when none of the tasks he was supposed to target were completed, only ending up in a mess. Especially now that Pedro hadn't managed to locate Jacob's whereabouts. "So, what progress have we made?" Marco asked coldly, looking at his four subordinates directly managing the affairs in Chicago. Currently, Marco was in his large mansion that he had previously shared with Letta. "Sorry, Sir. Currently, all investors have even withdrawn all the funds they invested in our project, and we also failed to attract other investors," one subordinate said, now looking at Marco with a fearful gaze. "So, they underestimate a Jovanka? What do they think? Do they think this project is just a casual project that will only end up as an old building?" Marco asked, making them bow their heads even deeper. Marco then turned his gaze directly to Pedro.
"Jacob's whereabouts still haven't been traced?" Marco asked, making Pedro shake his head.
"Not yet, but I got information that Jacob has moved all those investors to his new project. He managed to invest all of them in the project he leads," Pedro said, making Marco clench his fists even more. Marco didn't know who Jacob was collaborating with now, but what he heard was that the project Jacob was also involved in was still under the name Jovanka. Whether it was due to Jacob's manipulation deceiving those investors.
Until Marco's thoughts were interrupted when a phone rang, causing Pedro to pick it up first. Pedro immediately looked at Marco.
"From Mr. Edward," Pedro said, making Marco finally exhale deeply. Marco could already guess what his father was going to talk about until Marco reached out to receive the call from his father. "Hello, Dad," Marco said.
"Why is everything in such chaos, I thought after you took over the casino in Chicago from Lemos, everything would run smoothly. The same goes for our new project. But the reality is, Jacob and his father managed to snatch it all away. Do you know how much our stocks have plummeted?" Edward said, causing Marco to furrow his brow, then look at Pedro. It seemed Pedro understood the meaning behind his master's gaze. Pedro immediately rushed to check what had happened so far because he hadn't received any new reports from his subordinates.
"Our company is really going down if we can't resolve this. It seems this is Jacob and his father's declaration of war to claim the rights to the Jovanka name assets. They're using themselves with another Jovanka name. How could you let it come to this?" Edward said with an angry tone, making Marco roughy rub his face.
"This is beyond my expectations. Initially, he was just playing around. I thought the little rat would return to where he came from. But it turns out, he brought along a pack. He's slowly gnawing away at what I have," Marco said, clenching his fists.
"Daddy, please sort everything out, and check the consequences of our assets crashing. All investors might even run to him," Edward said, then abruptly hung up, making Marco immediately throw the phone without a word. The people in the room could only bow again, witnessing Marco's anger, while Marco looked directly at Pedro when Pedro showed him the graph on the flat screen, making Marco tighten his jaw even more. How could he be so careless with someone like Jacob?
"We'll handle step by step what we need to do now, and you stay focused on finding Jacob," Marco said, making Pedro nod. Marco immediately set out to meet his investors one by one. Even now, he had to fly to Shanghai, China. There was no stopping for him after Chicago. Pedro organized everything meticulously, fulfilling any needs his master had. Even on the plane, Marco relentlessly worked to resolve all the chaos Jacob had caused, monitoring the stock charts now under his Jovanka name. Using another Jovanka name made Marco have to exert extra effort. He not only had to visit Shanghai, China, but also Hong Kong, the Southeast Asian region, and even fly to other countries where their investors, who initially eagerly joined Marco's new project, now seemed forcibly taken by Jacob.
Marco was so busy that he didn't even think to check his phone. Meanwhile, in his phone, there were numerous unanswered calls from Letta, indicating calls from home.
Letta, now in another country, could only place the phone down, looking at Desi with a melancholic gaze.
"Perhaps, Sir is busy, Madam,” Desi said, trying to comfort her employer, making Letta sigh deeply.
"Hasn't it been over two days since Marco was supposed to arrive in Chicago, but he hasn't given me any updates?" Letta said, making Desi fall silent.
"Is he that busy? I just need to hear his voice once, that he's okay. I know he's probably busy sorting out all the chaos he's facing, but at least I need to hear that he's okay," Letta said, now sitting on her balcony, accompanied by Desi who draped a thick blanket over Letta's shoulders.
"The weather outside is cold, Madam. It's also the rainy season, so you should be careful with your body condition," Desi said, making Letta nod before gently stroking her round belly, which had entered the 8th month of pregnancy. In just a short while, she would meet her little angel, but in moments like these, Marco was away, leaving her alone. Letta hoped everything would improve soon, and she could be reunited with Marco. She then looked at Desi.
"Did Marco's parents used to come here often when I still had amnesia?" Letta asked with a sudden question, making Desi slightly hesitate. Desi was afraid of giving the wrong answer until she shook her head. "Not too often, Madam. Even before getting married, Sir wasn't very close to his parents, maybe because they were both busy," Desi said, and Letta nodded.
"How do you see our marriage?" Letta asked again, making Desi immediately interested in the events of Letta and Marco's wedding. Desi tried to rack her brain. Marco surely wouldn't tell anything bad to his wife, thought Desi, who had to answer her employer's question.
"The wedding was held in this garden, right there, Madam. Look at that vast green lawn over there. It became a Garden Party with a very sacred atmosphere. Not many people were invited by Sir because he wanted your wedding to be truly intimate,” Desi replied, making Letta smile.
"Yes, Marco said the same thing. He said it was my request because I didn't want too many people to be invited. Marco also said that I didn't invite a single person on the guest list. Is that true?" Letta asked, and Desi nodded.
"Yes, from what I heard, the guests who attended were the extended family from Sir's side," Desi said, making Letta fall silent while gazing at the garden now adorned with lights. Letta seemed to want to reminisce about how her wedding took place.
