Chapter 163
"In the dimly lit room, the sound of footsteps could be heard, echoing in the narrow hallway. Only dim lights illuminated each step until the footsteps stopped in front of the iron bars. Folding his arms, he gazed at the middle-aged man sitting silently in the dark room, pulling the corner of his lips before walking closer as the face became visible.
"So, you finally end up behind these iron bars," he said, making the middle-aged man turn and look at him sharply.
"You should have joined me in here," he said, making the other person chuckle.
"Come on, I'm not in cahoots with you. I just provided the information you needed. Haven't I been kind enough, and foolishly so are you? You never used my assistance as evidence. So you can't drag me in there with you, can you?" he said, eventually prompting the man to get up and approach him. Gripping the iron bars, he glared at Jacob angrily.
"Damn it, Jacob! You lured me into attacking that scoundrel. You said his power would never be the same as it was in his own country. But still, no matter how many people you provided, including your henchmen, they couldn't defeat him," Lemos said, looking at Jacob with a murderous gaze.
"That's because you couldn't control it yourself. I just provided people for you, and it all depended on your orders. You only knew Masimo, right? That's why you couldn't command the others," Jacob said, leaving Lemos speechless. Initially, Lemos had no intention of attacking Marco at all. He had even relinquished his casinos and nightclubs under Jovanka's umbrella. But suddenly, Jacob came to offer cooperation, or what he called assistance. He informed Lemos that Marco was coming without tight security, only with a few important guards. It was Jacob who suggested kidnapping Letta. But both Lemos and Jacob miscalculated, especially since his henchman was Pedro, as Marco often boasted. Pedro was adept at handling everything, as evidenced by Lemos currently locked behind iron bars with tight security. Moreover, he was not in an ordinary prison, he was truly confined in an underground dungeon. This was at Marco's behest, and the work was done by Pedro.
"You should have targeted his henchmen first. You knew he had a henchman named Pedro. You should have weakened that right-hand man first because Marco wouldn't be able to do anything if his right-hand man was crippled," Jacob said, making Lemos clench his fists.
"Why didn't you attack him yourself? Or are you deliberately avoiding it because you lack the courage? You deliberately lured me into attacking him, even though I could accept his victory," Lemos said, making Jacob shake his head "You don't accept it. I know that deep down, you still hold a grudge against my beloved cousin," Jacob replied.
"And what about you? Are you the same as me, a coward or a little rat hiding behind me, afraid to fight your cousin because you know you'll lose first?" Lemos said, seemingly provoking Jacob's emotions as his earlier dismissive smile faded. "I'm not just anyone who would attack him just like that. I have a precise plan to get everything I want. I'm not an impatient person like you. I'll strike when Marco is truly off guard, and I have the key," Jacob retorted, causing Lemos to click his tongue in frustration. He then turned away from Jacob.
"Well, I hope you don't end up like me, or perhaps worse. Because if Marco finds out you're behind all these sinister plans, you'd be done for by now," Lemos said, to which Jacob nonchalantly shrugged.
"But there's no evidence. No one can prove my involvement, so enjoy spending the rest of your life in this ancient building. And luckily, I've already ceased our cooperation on our armaments before. I've already sent other weapons to countries that are in conflict," Jacob stated before walking away from the iron bars, leaving Lemos clenching his fists, watching Jacob's truly deceptive departure. He had even seized all the firearms and sold them himself to the warring countries.
Meanwhile, Jacob got into the black car directly and then glanced sideways, where Alfonso always accompanied him.
"How is my cousin doing with his wife right now?" Jacob asked.
"They are still in the hospital, and there's no news yet on when they will return to their country. It seems to take about a week for him to recover," Alfonso said, as he had found out and reported himself. "What about our plan that caused trouble for Marco?" Jacob asked again.
"We have managed to get out of his flight security system because it seems Pedro has also taken action. So we don't need to mess with it anymore, as it was just a distraction before they were abducted, right?" Alfonso said, making Jacob nod. Indeed, earlier when Jacob instructed Alfonso to penetrate Marco's company network security, it was only to disrupt his focus before Lemos kidnapped him and himself.
But after that, Jacob instructed Alfonso to withdraw from the security, because if they knew that Marco would target him this time, they wouldn't let him go. And he had to have an alibi to defend himself so that Marco could release him again. For now, Jacob still didn't feel right about attacking his cousin; he had to come up with a very well-thought-out plan. That's why earlier, Jacob told Lemos to see how Marco was doing.
"Okay, then we will visit my beloved cousin directly. He will definitely be surprised to receive a visit from his beloved cousin. What's more important is how Marco and his wife see my closeness," Jacob said, making Marco nod immediately. After that, Jacob drove his black car to the hospital where Marco and Letta were.
One more thing that Jacob actually knew was Letta's true condition. Since their first meeting at an exhibition, Jacob had been suspicious of Letta's attitude, which was in stark contrast to their meeting at Edward's mansion a few months earlier. Moreover, knowing that Letta was heavily pregnant now, it would be an interesting game, according to Jacob's mind, which was beginning to smile. It seemed that his day would be very pleasant when meeting his cousin. However, in the middle of the journey, Jacob furrowed his brow when he received a message, causing him to look directly at Alfonso.
"It seems that Marco's subordinate named Pedro has scrambled our system. Is he so resentful because we played with our network a bit yesterday?" Jacob asked, making Alfonso furrow his brow.
"Sorry, it seems we still can't check it. Should we pull over first?" Alfonso asked, making Jacob shake his head.
"No, I will take care of it directly with Marco later. After all, we will also meet him. So we can discuss it in person. I can't wait to meet someone who might give me a smile when they first open the door of the hospital. Maybe they're in the same room? That would be even better, wouldn't it?" Jacob said, imagining Letta's smile in his mind right now.
