Torn between Wolves & Myths (Book 2)

Chapter 028

"Livana!" Malik's yell reached her ears before she bolted upright and looked shocked around her.

They were on some beach, completely soaked and cold, but the pull she felt in het chest told her exactly where she was. She ran a hand over her forehead as her energy started to fade. How could she suddenly be so exhausted?

Her brian felt like it was scrambled. Like it needed to catch up with reality.

"Are you okay?" Malik asked as he saw her slumping.

Flashes of Ulf ran through her mind, before she remembered what actually happened.

She had been stuck in the Bloodcall and she had talked to her cousin.

The cousin who was locked up in Norway with Rafe as warden.

"No..." She whispered as she closed her eyes and tried to will herself back to Ulf, but it didn't work. "No!" She yelled as she tried to get up, only to collapse and land on her hands and knees.

"Whoa, what's wrong?" Malik asked, as Liv buried her hands in the sand and silently cursed her uncle.

The information Ulf had told her ran through her head as she tried to regain her strength, without any luck. Her energy kept depleting, while the wolves around her started to gain their conciousness.

"Alpha?" Fare asked as he gently grabbed her shoulder and helped her to sit upright. Stars started to dance in front of her eyes.

"What's wrong?" Ben asked as he walked towards them.

Before anyone could answer she lost het conciousness. Fare grunted as he caught her before she fell face first into the sand.

"What the hell happened? None of us reacted to the weed like that." Her hearing picked up Maliks voice, before she felt someone grab her wrist.

"Maybe it was the trip?" Fare added. "I mean none of us know what happened after we ate the weed, maybe she did."

"We can't be sure until she comes too and tells us what happened to her." Doc said as her wrist was placed back and something cold was pushed on her chest. "But I don't think that it was the trip. The Margyge somehow trust her and help her, why I don't know, but it's a fact. I find it hard to believe that they put her in this state."

"Then what could it be?" Ben asked.

She heard Doc sigh before the cold object was taken away from her. "She somehow saw Kveldulf when Pyry told her about her father being a Haugbui. She even said his name out loud. I think she was pulled into the Bloodcall then and I think that she was also pulled in it after she ate the weed."

"But you said that the Bloodcall was something she needed to train." Andrew spoke up.

"I also said that she can't speed up her skills when it came to her power and yet she's doing just that. Honestly things are not normal with her and I think that anything is possible with her."

"That's a dangerous statement." Fare commented.

"I know." Doc sighed again. "But we don't know half of what kind of power she holds and not to forget the fact that her power turned dark when she got out of her shock."

"The darkness has always been inside of her. If it was dangerous, we would have already known." Gerard added to the conversation.

Not liking where this is going, she tried to move her body, but it felt like her arms were tied down.

"Do you know how she got it?" Doc asked. "You lived in her pack when she was a child after all."

"No." Malik said a little irritated.

"Has she ever told you when she was in your care?" Doc asked next.

She tried to move again. With a lot of effort she managed to move her finger, but no one saw it.

"No, all we know is that it's linked to her first name, but that's it. It was the one secret that neither of them ever spoke off at King's. Which infuriated the bastard to no end."

"Stop." She spoke as she finally managed to open her eyes and sit a little more upright.

Fare immediately crouched down next to her and helped her sit up. "Are you okay?" She gave him a small smile as she nodded.

"I'm fine, just exhausted."

The pull to the land she was sitting on nearly pulled her down again, but she held on. She looked around her and saw that they hadn't left the beach. Small campfires had spread out as wolves sat close together to warm their bodies.

Andrew, Gerard and Brandon all had blue lips as well as she saw the slight tremble in their bodies. Even Ben and Doc looked like they were cold, while she was feeling comfortable and better than she had in a long while, minus the exhaustion.

The cold was different in Greenland from Norway and Alaska. She was used to it, so were Malik, Fare and the rest of the wolves that came from her old pack, but the rest of them were in for a lot of adjusting to do. Especially once they were going to move inland.

"What happened to you?"

"I talked to Ulf." Doc's eyes went wide as he fell on his knees in front of her.

"How?"

"I was pulled into the Bloodcall, like you guessed, and was able to talk to him. He saw me as well."

"Did he tell you anything?" Malik asked.

"Oh fuck yeah." She said through clenched teeth, before she made a move to get up with the help of Fare.

"We need to take out Rafe as soon as we can."

"What has Rafe got to do with Ulf?" Ben asked confused.

"Because the asshole made a deal with Lycaon and has Ulf locked up in Norway."

Whatever sound there was on the beach, it dissapeared in an instant. Everyone looked at her with a shocked expression.

"Are you-"

"Sure? Yeah, I'm pretty damn sure as Ulf was the one who told me himself. He shouldn't have known about Rafe as he was born after Ulf was taken, and yet he does and hates him with his entire being." She looked ar Rev who closed his mouth in an instant.

"But-" Ben said as he took a step forward. "Listen to your own words there, Liv. Ulf was taken before Rafe was born. Why would Lycaon suddenly give Ulf to him?"

"I don't know. I was pulled out of the Bloodcall before I could ask more of him." Which still frustrated her to no end. "All I know is that he's in Norway and under Rafe's watch. We need to get him out."

"We will, but first you need to settle down and we need to plan what we are going to do next, because building a base on a beach is not the way to go." Malik said as he laid a hand on her shoulder.

"I know." She said a little irritated before her eyes ventured inward.

She already knew where she was. Even if she didn't remember what it looked like, she knew this country in more than just sight. She knew it in her entire being. Her fathers territory edged the beach they were standing on. If she were to set one foot on the snowpacked ground she would be home.

A lump formed in her throat as she looked at it.

"Do we need to come with you?" She shook her head at Fare's request.

"I need to do this alone."

"We're here if you need us." Malik said, before she gave him a small smile.

She took a deep breath before she moved out of Fare's touch and walked towards the border. The pull in her chest started to hum with every step she got closer.

Tears started to line her eyes. Her heartbeat picked up as she started to tremble.

She wasn't, and at the same time was, ready for this. But there was no way she was going to turn back. She needed to do this and it terrified her.

Liv stopped in front of the border. If the wind would blow her hair forward, it would cross the border instantly. She swallowed as she looked out over the white expanse of land covered with snow. A tear rolled down her cheek as she closed her eyes and took the first step back into her home. As soon as her foot touched the ground a shock like she was hit with a lightning bolt ran through her body making her gasp as her eyes shot open.

Words died in her throat at what she saw in front of her.

She couldn't move. She couldn't do anything but stare.

He smiled as he saw her shocked face.

"Welcome home, Moon." His voice was everywhere around her. Like it floated on the wind around her. Yet he stood in front of her.

A stab went through her chest at the realization that he wasn't alive was so voilent that she was almost knocked backward. A loud whimper left her as she reached for her chest.

He walked towards her with a pityful look on his face. He placed his fingers underneath her chin as he lifted her head again.

His touch was cold, just like his voice it was like it was a cold breeze that ran over her skin.

He was touching her but at the same time she couldn't really feel him.

Tears streamed down her cheeks as she held his gaze.

"Don't cry, my Moon. I am not in pain and I am here."

"But you're not." She croaked. "You're not really here." More tears rolled down her cheeks.

He gave her a small smile as he moved his touch from her chin to her cheek. The breeze moving over it as if he was stroking her cheek like he used to do when she was a child.

"I'm as real as you are, my Moon. I only reside on a different plane from you and can only visit here, but I am really here." Her lip trembled.

"I miss you." She whispered as an involuntary sob left her. "So much."

He gave her a sad smile as he took another step towards her and cupped her cheeks. She hated that she couldn't actually feel his touch right now.

"I never left you and never will."

"Will you stay?" Hope filled her at the tought at seeing him again. She needed him to, how weak it might be.

"Always." He lifted her head a little. "I am so proud of you who are becoming, my Moon. But you are not done yet." He removed his hands as he turned and walked further into the territory. She followed him instantly.

"This war will not only mean the end of the wolf sifters, but if it's allowed to continue it would mean the end of the world as we know it. Both Lycaon and Rafe seek to destroy the other and gain absolute control, but such a thing doesn't exist. We have lived with each other before and I know you can make that happen again. The Lycanthropes and Ulfhednars have their own destiny that they have been neglecting ever since the war started and it needs to end."

"I'm not you. I can never lead like you have." He looked at her as they walked.

"No, you can do it better." She looked at him as well. "I left when I couldn't take everything anymore and by doing so I left the wrong person in charge. Yet, I don't regret leaving. If I hadn't I would never have found your mother and got you, but I am not without my regrets and mistakes. And one of the biggest mistake and regret is not telling you what you are."

"I don't blame you, either of you, for not telling me that I was half Ulfhednar and a Royal."

"I am glad, but that is not the mistake I am talking about." He said as he moved in front of her and stopped walking, making her stop as well.

"What do you mean?"

"The moment your mother became pregnant. I knew that what Freya had foreseen would come to pass. I knew that you were what she had seen from that moment on. You were something that hadn't existed before, a mix of both races and the power of one of them. At least that's what we thought, until you were born."

"Mamma, why is my name different from yours?" Liv asked as she crawled on her mothers lap.

"Everyone has different names, darling." Her mother answered as she stroked the little girl's hair.

"But why is mine dark and yours light?" The smile faded from her mothers face as she stopped stroking.

"My name."

Her father nodded. "Your mother told you that your name is because when you were born, your hair and eyes were pitch black and that your power was the same as it lashed out to the midwife and killed her."

She swallowed as she remembered her mother make her swear that she wouldn't ever tell it to anyone.

"Your mother thought that it was because you were born from two races, but it wasn't."

"How would you know?" She asked.

"Because my own mother held that same power."
