Torn Between Love and Hate

Chapter 222

Chapter 222 The Relationship Between Husband and Wife

Donna held her coffee, listening to Evelyn say she wouldn't be coming back, and she froze completely.

She was not only surprised, but also quite frightened.

She looked at Evelyn in disbelief, "What, you're not coming?"

Alright, what do you mean it's not coming?

Evelyn explained, "My home and work are both in Oceanview City, and I plan to settle down there in the future. If I'm away for too long, my parents will worry, Old Mrs. Moxley, if I have the chance to visit Richmond again, I'll definitely come to see you."

Donna didn't understand what she said, "Not coming to Richmond, how can that be convenient? If you want to meet Adrian, wouldn't you have to run around everywhere?"

Once they got married, it was not like one could still live in Oceanview City while the other lived in Richmond.

Evelyn thought that Donna had already given up hope on their relationship.

After all, it was clear to anyone who observed the Moxley family that Adrian not only lacked any affection for her, but was also filled with hostility and resistance.

One wouldn't know any better, they might think these two had a grudge against each other.

Speaking of Adrian, he has a good temperament and possesses basic manners.

For others, he never tends to be so picky and overly concerned about trivial matters.

Donna glanced at Adrian with a hint of anxiety, while Adrian kept his head buried in his phone, not responding for quite some time.

Evelyn could only explain directly, "Old Mrs. Moxley, the situation between Mr. Moxley and me is just a

misunderstanding.

I used to really like him, but after giving it some thought, I realized that I was aiming too high. Mr. Moxley didn't seem to feel the same way about me either. So, I decided that it's best to put an end to it. I'm very grateful for the care and kindness the Moxley family has shown me during this time."

Donna hadn't made a sound for quite some time, and it was unclear whether she was upset or anxious.

She sat there, her face ashen.

Adrian sat there without moving, displaying an indifferent attitude, as he lowered his head and busied himself with

his phone.

But the image displayed on the phone screen remained unchanged for quite some time.

Adrian seemed to be lost in thought, not knowing why, or perhaps not even realizing that he was daydreaming.

Donna suddenly stood up, her face filled with frustration as she looked at Adrian, "Adrian, stand up right now!"

Evelyn's face turned awkward, feeling a sense of impending storm. She lowered her voice and asked Deborah, who was standing beside her.

"What should we do now? I hope we can wrap this up somehow."

She wasn't worried about Adrian; if worse came to worst, she could just tell him that it was all an act before.

As Donna got older, she feared that she wouldn't be able to accept people treating their lifelong commitments as a joke and turning them into a play.

Even if Evelyn explained truthfully, Donna would most likely still find it hard to believe.

Adrian slowly got up and looked at Donna, "It's not like I wanted to go to Oceanview City, so what did I do wrong?"

Donna glared at him angrily, "What on earth did you do to Eve? Weren't you two getting along just fine? Now she says she's going to Oceanview City and won't be coming back."

Adrian's expression was unnatural, "How would I know? I didn't bully her."

Donna couldn't contain her frustration as she became more and more agitated, "Just look for yourself, see how Joseph takes care of Deborah!

Look at yourself! You're always acting weird around Eve. Can't you just be nice to her? You think I can't see it?"

Evelyn felt that things were getting out of control and couldn't help but worry about whether she would be able to leave smoothly tomorrow morning.

After all the hard work, I can finally "retire with honor," take the money, and go back to Oceanview City to enjoy the good life.

At this critical moment, I couldn't afford to let any mishaps occur.

She immediately stood up to defend Adrian, "Old Mrs. Moxley, this isn't Mr. Moxley's fault. Matters of the heart can't be forced. I've thought it through, and Mr. Moxley and I truly aren't a good match. And actually, I was planning to return to Oceanview City anyway, since my home is there. I've only been away for a while due to the Christmas leave."

Seeing that even at this point, Evelyn could still bear the grievance and speak up for Adrian, Donna couldn't help but feel touched.

Such a sensible and understanding girl, if you miss out on her, where else can you find someone like her after this opportunity passes?

The granddaughter-in-law she was about to welcome into the family slipped away, all because Adrian didn't cherish her, and now it's all gone to waste.

Donna's face showed even more distress, "Adrian, just look at yourself! Look at her! She's such a wonderful girl. How can you not understand? How can you not know how to cherish her?" Evelyn tried to explain further, "Old Mrs. Moxley, Mr. Moxley, he..."

Before she could finish speaking, Adrian interrupted her from the side, "Can you please not make things worse?"

Adrian was in a bad mood, feeling inexplicably frustrated.

As soon as the words left his mouth, he felt a tinge of regret. Evelyn was defending him, and it really wasn't the right time for him to be accusing her.

But he didn't want to change his words, nor did he want to apologize. After speaking, he continued to remain silent.

Evelyn was caught off guard by his words, her face turning red with anger.

Deborah reached out and gently tugged on her sleeve, prompting her to sit down and remain silent.

Donna's ears weren't working well, and she heard Adrian say something.

The sound wasn't loud, so she couldn't hear it clearly.

She asked Adrian, slightly annoyed, "What did you say to Eve this time?"

Adrian fell silent.

Donna was furious and couldn't help but scold him a few times.

Steven and Norman tried to persuade, and Sebastian also said, "Mom, calm down. The child has their own thoughts. Eve is right, too. Love can't be forced. Young people value mutual consent." Donna couldn't hold back her anger, "How can you guys even defend him? Both of you are older brothers, in your thirties, and yet you haven't even had a single girlfriend!

You're a father now, but if it wasn't for my efforts in arranging the blind date, I might not have been able to bring my

daughter-in-law into the family."

Sebastian couldn't argue, indeed, he and Nora had met through a blind date.

Although they realized they already knew each other when they first met for a blind date, their relationship quickly

became stable, and they have enjoyed a great marriage ever since.

No matter how, it was indeed a blind date arranged by Donna.

As for Steven and Norman, being single men in their thirties, they were even more powerless to refute. Several people simultaneously lowered their heads, leaving Adrian alone to continue being scolded.

Evelyn had grown up in a privileged environment, always pampered and cherished by her family.

It was rare for anyone to criticize her, but now Adrian was scolding her with a cold expression on his face.

She couldn't help but feel wronged and angry, and didn't say another word to help.

After talking for quite a while without feeling satisfied, Donna called Adrian upstairs to the study to continue the

conversation.

After the scolding was over, it was already evening.

Adrian went downstairs again, but he didn't see Evelyn and Joseph anywhere.

Deborah and Alyssa were sitting on the living room couch, watching TV.

Adrian looked around, and Alyssa spoke up, "Adrian, Ms. Evelyn and Mr. Black have already left."

Adrian responded with an indifferent "Oh," and sat down on a sofa not far from them.

Every now and then, he would glance at Alyssa. Eventually, Alyssa noticed and shifted her gaze from the television, tilting her head to look at him.

"Adrian, do you have anything else you need from us?"

Adrian quickly averted his gaze, "No, not at all."

Alyssa nodded and continued to watch TV with Deborah.

Adrian waited for them to take the initiative and say something more, but after a long wait, nothing came.

He gazed at them for quite a while before casually asking, "Where did they go?"

Alyssa was engrossed in watching TV and didn't react immediately to the words, "What? Who is it?"
