Chapter New Beginnings
With Peter I started a new project, I said bye-bye to the silly juice!
We started a sci-fi comic! A one that was just in black and white color, it had multiple superheroes but with random body types and heights, it was against bullying.
That comic could teach kids how to answer bullies, and how to handle their extraordinary looks.
We didn’t take much time to launch it, Peter was so perfect with his drawings, and guess who was our story writer? Sydney!
Well, she was not exactly a writer but she had a pretty good mind at imagining, she made stories for us! We had them written and our campaign came out successful.
We prepared 300 copies and donated them to the orphanage.
My parents started liking Peter a lot, he was obedient, and he treated them as his own parents.
Speaking of, we used to dedicate all our hard work and dedication to our company. But we had two days reserved, one for our family and one for just us.
After getting through hard days spending time with Peter was mind refreshing.
“What is it?” He asked when he saw me a little upset.
“I…” I hesitated and stopped.
He raised my chin and looked into my eyes “What is it?” He asked again.
“I sometimes feel, this is unfair to you! You are doing so much for me and I… I feel like I am a burden to you” I whispered with a fear of getting scolded at the end.
He gave me a stare of horror and soon I regretted what I said.
“You are not a burden on anyone you hear me? You are a one-man army yourself! You’ve been fighting all your life! You are a warrior, a survivor! And I am proud to be loved by you! and proud to love you.” He kissed me on my forehead.
“Since the day you appeared in my mirror, you’ve brought nothing in my life but happiness, you made me see beauty in flaws.
What other people called cracks you saw them as carvings!” He held my hands tightly and looked me in the eyes, this time he was getting emotional.
“When you were gone I was afraid of my own shadow! I was so lost, I couldn’t see anything! Now that I found you I am never letting you get away from me! Not even for a second” He rubbed my cheek gently.
“Let’s get married? Shall we?” He smiled at me, I love when he smiles like this.
I rested my head on his shoulder while he ran his fingers in my hair.
“I’d give anything to be with you” I whispered.
While we were happy in our most broken state, Jill was restless even after having what she desired the most.
She was scared to talk to Jordan about me, but she started to grow distant from him.
She’d make excuses to avoid hanging out with him, they had their wedding planned but she asked him to postpone it.
He thought it was a lot for her all of a sudden so maybe she needed some time to figure out things, but he had no idea that the seed he sowed was growing a plant for his own downfall.
She wanted to check his phone but he was always either holding it or keeping it inside his pocket.
One day she found her own sleeping pills inside a drawer, she cooked Italian for him, she called out to him then he started winding up his office work, she availed the opportunity and slipped the pills into his food.
It had completely disappeared by the time he reached the table, he didn’t suspect anything, he slept earlier and deeper.
When she was finally satisfied she took out his phone from inside his pillow.
She had everything planned in mind about what will she say if he woke up, she went to the balcony and checked his contact list.
Everything was normal there were no messages to be suspicious about or nothing alarming at all until her eyes stopped on two numbers, both of those numbers were dialed on 18th June, and she quickly noted down those numbers and placed his phone back where it was.
In the morning she acted normal and left for the cafe.
From there she used her phone to call one of those numbers.
When she called one of those numbers, a man picked up “Why are you calling me now? I’ve helped you enough for the amount you paid, now leave me alone!” He hung up, it was Ian, but she didn't know him.
Jill couldn’t even say anything, and when she tried again the number was not available anymore.
Then she used the phone from the cafe to call the second number, she thought maybe both of those numbers belonged to the same person but she didn’t know she would hear a woman’s voice instead this time.
“Hello? Who is it?” I asked, it was my number, but she didn’t answer me, I waited to hear from her but she didn’t respond.
Then I thought maybe it was Jordan and he wasn’t done destroying me so he’s calling me again “Jordan?” I called his name.
“Is it Daisy Carter?” She gathered the courage to speak.
“Yes, it is. Do I know you?” I asked.
Her eyes widened as she hung up and her entire world turned upside down.
She couldn’t make sense but it was not an accident. Her boyfriend knows another woman who turned paralyzed the day she recovered, and that is exactly the same woman who was in that accident with her.
She had so many questions, but she knew Jordan would never answer her, instead, she was afraid of what he might do to her if she confronted him.
She had to play along, she needed a solid plan to find out the truth, to find out how is he connected with our health.
I didn’t know why but I had been restless since I heard her voice, who was she? Why did she call me? What might be the reason for her hanging up right after confirming it was me?
After that day I realized when Jordan performed that ritual he didn’t just make me a vessel for her pain, he somehow bonded us, and even he wasn’t aware of it.
The woman Jill envied was now a woman she wanted to check up on again and again, but she was afraid to do that.
Even I started checking my phone many times in a day, just to see if whoever she was, did she call me again or not.
