Chapter [15] LILITH
And then it starts.
In the night, in the dark
in the dead silence
of the spacecraft.
The smallest breeze,
whispering through these
empty halls,
metal walls,
and out
Into the dark
lands
beyond.
And –
s i l e n c e .
Then
a flicker in the darkness,
a sudden spreading, blinding brightness,
a grumbling planet beneath our feet,
the metal walls groan and shriek.
Running down the dim-lit halls,
running to the outer-doors,
running for the shattering source,
voices bouncing off the walls:
“What the hell is – Lilith! – the windows – get to the – crap! – sound is driving me insane – wait, it’s not – Christ, what is – Cal, help me get – oh shit, oh shit, oh – malfunctioning – I got it, I – fuck – someone check the – is that – oh my god, guys…”
And this is where our feet have landed:
outside, on ground, on a barren planet,
our faces lit, our shadows lifted
the sky above is blinding – brilliant.
In this starry, starry day-slash-night,
a gigantic explosion of terrifying light,
the souls of stars soaring in flight,
raining down across the sky.
And from our place of awe and fright,
we watch them set the world alight –
set fire to our darkened sight
and cast
away
the eternal
night.
