Chapter 82
"Can't understand? Ha." Ethan Carter scoffed coldly, "Are you really that clueless or just pretending? You don't want to draw a line with me?"
His lips parted, questioning with a chilling tone, his piercing gaze felt like it could slice through layers of pretense.
Emma Johnson furrowed her brows, clearly sensing something was off with this man.
Though she had no desire to provoke him, she felt it necessary to clarify certain things to avoid misunderstandings later on.

"Mr. Carter, you're exaggerating. Our relationship is strictly professional; we have clear boundaries," she replied, her dark eyes as calm and still as a serene pond, showing no ripples of emotion.
Emma remained tranquil in the face of him because she had long lost hope in this man. She understood that they were two parallel lines that would never intersect.
She bore no hatred towards Ethan; after all, it was her choice to pursue a union with him despite being aware of his existing affections for someone else. She should have anticipated the unfortunate path of divorce upon marrying into the Carter family.
"Mr. Carter, I've said all I needed to say. Can you please let go of me now?" She glanced down at the large hand tightly gripping hers and added with a warning tone.
Rumors of their relationship had already circulated within the company. With so many eyes around, Emma sincerely hoped to maintain the necessary distance from him-to prevent further misunderstandings, especially not wishing to give Olivia any reason to suspect their connection. She truly wanted to sever ties with this man.
The calmness and acceptance in Emma's demeanor caused a pang of disappointment in Ethan. He slowly released his grip; her response wasn't what he had wanted.
After clearing the air, Emma felt an overwhelming sense of relief wash over her. Without uttering another word, she turned on her heel and walked away, leaving behind only the silhouette of her back.

Somewhere deep inside him, a particular emptiness seemed to emerge.
Emma acted as if nothing had happened, nonchalantly returning to her workstation to
focus on her tasks.
With a heavy heart, Ethan returned to his office, the echoes of Emma's words resonating in his mind.
"Knock, knock, knock-"
A series of knocks pulled him back from his thoughts.
"Come in."
His deep, magnetic voice filled the room instantly.
"Ethan, why aren't you resting at home after coming back from the hospital? I went to check on you and found you weren't there. I figured you'd be at the office, so I brought you some soup," Olivia said, entering his office with a smile, carrying a thermos. "Just put it on the table. I'm not hungry," he replied, lacking any appetite for soup at
that moment.
As Olivia began to prepare to persuade him to at least have a sip, another knock interrupted, and his assistant entered, holding an invitation letter. Three Years to Love
