Chapter 22
"Kadi..., Kadi..." Her voice came from very far away, only when Gwen touched him did he feel like he could think again.
Roughly he gripped the hand she'd placed on his arm, despite his hand trembling tremendously and he heard her inhale sharply but was unable to relax his grip.
"What happened?" His voice sounded raw with hold back emotions.
Disbelief was written all over his brother's whitened face.
"He was murdered...Varlan didn't know anything else either. Dad Dargan seems to have found him...They want us to come to the office,...all three...Gwen mustn't under any circumstance be left alone..." Ivac said with a gravely voice.
Within five minutes they were dressed in whatever had been provided in the vehicle parked in front of the house entrance, dust and gravel flying in all directions as they drove away.
The silence in the vehicle was deafening and Gwen wasn't sure what to do. Should she hold the men, should she keep her distance? Her thoughts were interrupted by Kadi unexpectedly picking her up and placing her on his lap. He slid a bit towards his brother who had taken the wheel, Ivac in turn grabbed her with his free hand as if he found some support in her this way. Neither of them looked at her, but it was clear that her touch made the difference between despair and keeping their heads together. Immediately Gwen covered his hand with hers and squeezed it gently, her head resting against Kadi's shoulder.
Even though the night sky was filled with beautiful colours, none of them took notice of it, all three of them to deep in their own thoughts.

"...I don't know and I don't give a fuck how you do it, als long as you get it done in two hours!"
Varlan had his back towards the door and was talking to one of his engineers, when they entered the office, Kyrenn office...
"WHY THE FUCK DID IT TAKE YOU SO LONG TO GET HERE?!"
As soon as he heard the entrance, he turned and growled at them. His eyes were set deep in their sockets but at the same time they were burning with a rage, his fangs were elongated and his claws had already made deep trenches in the tabletop.
None of his sons dared to say anything, they were no match for this Alpha violence and they immediately bowed their heads bare-necked in submission.
"Varlan...don't..."
From the corner of the room came a soft, sad voice. Randi was crouched deep in one of the chairs. Her eyes were red and swollen from crying.
She got up and walked up to the two men, gently cupping their faces in one hand.
"I'm sorry, boys... but we already lost a lot of time while we had to wait for you to get here. We need to get started immediately. Kadi, you have to make sure all cameras are on, and automatically connect to this computer. Ivac, Gwen, you're going to help me sort through all the footage captured from the border areas over the past four hours." She let go of the men and turned to Gwen.
"If you could grab two chairs next door, I'll make sure everyone gets a screen..."
Gwen nodded and followed Kadi out of the office.
She turned to Varlan, who was still standing at the same spot, brooding but silently, and walked up to him.
"We'll get his killer..."
"YOU THINK?! I THINK THE FUCKER IS LONG GONE! BUT LET ME TELL YOU THIS, IF I GET MY HANDS ON HIM... HE'S A DEAD MAN!"
The anger in his father's voice made him shudder, and for the first time in his life, Ivac was afraid of the man. Dargan had always been the dominant and authoritarian father. Varlan was authoritarian when situations demanded this of him, he was an Alpha after all, but he was never really aggressive, he was always a laidback kind of guy. He'd never seen his father like this before and he was afraid that his father would unleash this rage on his..., what should he call her, stepmother..., seeing her standing so close to him.
An incoming call snapped Varlan out of his rage and he turned towards the screen. Bors, Kadi's second in command had taken over communications as Dargan had shifted to his Lycan form out of rage and grief.
"Alpha, the killer got away, but I already sent ships after him to take him down... It's a Yautja..., but... well, not your average kind... I will sent you Alpha Kyrenn's recordings as we speak..." Bors swallowed.
"It seems like Alpha Kyrenn came here to negotiate with someone and was attacked by this Yautja, since there are more bodies lying around... rogue bodies..."
Rogues? Why had Kyrenn agreed to meet with rogues without their knowledge? This made no sense, what so ever...
Varlan rubbed his eyes with the palm of his hand, his head was pounding and it felt like there was a massive hole in his chest.
Since noon, there had been this unsettling feeling inside of him, he knew Dargan had felt the same, but both of them thought it had something to do with their sons, it never accrued to them it was their brother causing that feeling.
The footage downloaded to Ivacs' screen was from the last twenty-four hours as his father commuted back and forth between home and office, when suddenly the camera turned off only to be turned back on after a while as he wandered off to a secluded spot. just outside the boundaries of their pack.
The camera vibrated as his father supposedly closed the car door, and he was able to track his movements as he came back into view as he walked toward the front of the four-wheeler. The camera shook again as he leaned against the front of the vehicle as if waiting for someone.
After about five minutes had passed, Ivac saw Father suddenly get up and move a few paces from the car. Although there was no sound on the recordings, it was clear that a person was walking towards him as his father's mouth moved.
He felt himself go icy cold when he saw who was approaching his father.
Visibility agitated he saw Kyrenn gesturing to the person, and he was annoyed he couldn't hear what they were discussing.
When all of a sudden his father looked to his side and froze. As his back was pointed to the camera, Ivac couldn't make out his father's expression but the shaking of his head and the way he cocked his head to the side, showed he was deeply disappointed. Then out of nowhere the man leashed out, slashing his father's throat causing the blood to spray all around.
"NOOOOO!!!"
Ivac jumped up, knocking the chair backwards and started to howl in rage and pain.
His horrified howl caused Gwen to gasp for air, and all she wanted to do was to run up to her mate and hold him, but before she got the chance, Varlan, who was standing on the other side of the table, jumped across and locked his eyes to the screen.
An unearthly growl came from his chest and the whole room started to vibrate. Fur over his arms, his hands turned to claws and his face started to become more muzzle like. He started to snarl viciously.
Randi's were wide in shock and she pushed Gwen who was standing left of her behind her back, she new Varlan wouldn't hurt her, his mate, but she wasn't to sure about the girl and she wasn't going to take any risk.
An icy cry sounded from afar, and Randi immediately realized it was Dargan, the bond between the brothers had not disappeared, on the contrary, he seemed to have become even stronger because of Kyrenn's death, Randi too could transmit the telepathy message between the two men hear, the mate bond was unbelievably strong and she felt an tremendous amount of anger rise within her. Her men had conveyed their emotions to her and although she was not a Lycan and could not change, Varlan's transformation was no surprise to her. This betrayal inflicted deep wounds but also opened doors that had been closed for centuries. Dargan's howl was immediately followed by another one, Kadi...
At this, both Varlan and Ivac threw their heads back, and a deafening howl echoed through the small office.
Both Randi and Gwen pressed their hands to their ears, as beautiful as the sound was, it was so loud it hurt terribly.
Without thinking, Varlan turned and made his way through the large window, closely followed by Ivac.
The glass window was shattered by the gigantic impact of her mate's large body and immediately Randi slapped her hands in front of her face, not a second to soon as the glass found it's way towards her as well, forcing their way into the skin of her hands.
Randi slowly lowered her hands again, the men had gone, and she walked to where Ivac had been sitting.
Her stomach turned when she saw the man who killed her mate...
Rann...
Behind her she heard Gwen's gasp...
