SWNOVELS Chapter 39:
In Kiani’s head: I can't allow this to happen, can I? What will they do to him?
Billie Jean: “No way in hell I’m letting you do this. Who the hell are they to judge us?”
Conan: “Billie, I killed an innocent kid. Do you really want Kiani to take the fall for it? For something that she didn't even do?”
Billie Jean: “THEY’LL KILL YOU! You can't let this happen, Kiani.”
Rocco: “I’m sorry, Billie Jean.”
Billie Jean: “YOU’RE NOT MY ALPHA ROCCO!”
Conan: “It’s my decision.”
Billie Jean: “So you choose to die?”
Conan: “I'm doing what's right.”
Billie Jean: “Oh, so what's right is leaving me?”
Conan: “Billie Jean…”
Kiani: “We’ll find another way!”
In Kiani’s head: Hearing Billie’s voice break when she said ‘leaving me’. I felt that deep down. After all, I know what it's like to lose a parent.
Kylo: “Uncle Conan should decide for himself. I'm your alpha and uncle Conan has made his decision. I respect it, and so should you.”
Billie Jean: “Are you hearing yourselves? Humans have no say or place in our lives.”
Kiani: “I thought I was human for most of my life. I can relate to them. They need justice for Lucas. I badly want there to be another way but if they think we’ll keep breaking their laws, we’re seen as a threat that needs to be dealt with. War is not the way to go about it. It's just going to be more bloodshed on both sides.”
Billie Jean: “Then give them bloodshed. NO ONE IS KILLING MY FATHER WHILE I’M STILL FUCKING BREATHING! (Billie Jean storms off)”
Conan: “There's no other way. Billie will calm down. She just needs time to process-”
Kiani: “How is she going to process that you might die? How will I? Or you, Kylo? How will any of us process that at all?”
Kylo: “We don't even know if they'll kill you, uncle. But the only way is to confess then we've done our part. We wolf shifters know about sacrifice.”
Rocco: “I'll do what I can to negotiate a better outcome for you, Conan.”
In Kiani’s head: Billie Jean will never forgive me if we go through with this. The new human and wolf shifter laws. 1. Wolf shifters follow their laws without conflicting with human laws. 2. If a wolf shifter kills a human and conflicts with human laws, the wolf shifter committed the crime is now unto the human law. The wolf shifter must come willingly and be caged appropriately. A further trial in court to decide whether a wolf shifter is to be put down as a threat to human beings. (Hawthorne’s living room)
Mr. Hawthorne: “We've done what generations of my family have been trying to do.”
Mrs. Hawthorne: “We're just getting started love. But I wanted Kiani to take the fall for Lucas's death. Not her stupid uncle. She could’ve killed me.”
Mr. Hawthorne: “Don't worry dear. We'll get rid of them soon enough.”
Mrs. Hawthorne: “Have you seen our daughter? I still haven't forgiven her for leaving me in that cage like an animal.”
Mr. Hawthorne: “Didn't she threaten to leave?”
Fate: “YOU TOLD THE WORLD ABOUT MAGICAL BEINGS?!”
Mr. Hawthorne: “Only about with shifters if you want to be particular.”
Mrs. Hawthorne: “We're protecting ourselves. As you know, we can't rely on you.”
Fate: “Do you have any idea what you've just done?”
Embry: “You're fucking idiots.”
Fate: “Protecting yourselves? The human government is rewriting the laws as we speak. Right now, your humans want peace.”
Mr. Hawthorne: “Peace never lasts. The new law states that wolf shifters can't murder us or they'll be put down. The law is on our side.”
Embry: “Now we're all in the public eye. We work privately. Now all humans will be investigating all new possibilities of magical beings. Our contract is terminated.”
Mrs. Hawthorne: “Our contract is terminated when we say so.”
Embry: “You broke the rules, love.”
Fate: “We killed Fang’s pack but Fang wasn’t there. We'll leave that in your hands.”
Mr. Hawthorne: “Mystic Hunters are meant to obey humans. Don't make us expose your kind as well. You'll continue to be in our service.”
Embry: “Was that a threat? As we're not in contract. I can respond to a threat.”
Fate: “Cool it Embry. I know your temper burns hot. But once the Hawthorne’s realize how idiotic there being, another house won't get burned down today. Brains won't get fried. Trust me. You don't want the organization after you. We’ll see ourselves out.”
Embry: “You better pray the organization isn't after you already after the stunt that you've already pulled. (Bloodstone pack living room)”
Juno: “He’s your uncle Kylo! More like a father figure. Not to mention our pack and you just want to hand him over to the new human law?”
Kylo: “He was reckless. Besides, it was his choice.”
Juno: “You'll never forgive yourself. What about Billie? This could ruin our pack Kylo.”
Kylo: “Please tell me another alternative? It was him or Kiani. Don’t you understand?”
Juno: “Have you told the rest of the pack? Does Billie know?”
Billie Jean: “I have a plan. Let my father confess, give him to the humans. Kiani will be out of the spotlight. But by their laws he has to wait for a trial. So he'll be caged. Caged means he can be rescued. Or busted out, as humans like to call it.”
Kylo: “Don't you think I would’ve thought of that?”
Juno: “Why didn't you suggest it then?”
Kylo: “He'll be on the run forever. That's no way to live.”
Billie Jean: “At least my dad won't be dead!”
Conan: “I said my decision is final!”
Billie Jean: “If you think I'm not going to try to save you, think again old man. You always taught me that we always protect the pack. No matter what. Pack is family.”
Kylo: “Billie’s right. The pack is behind you. I'm behind you, uncle. I've always owed you for saving and raising me. We'll break you free.”
Conan: “Thank you. But watch who you call old, young wolf. (Billie Jean laughs). Then I'll go back to the woods to be free where I belong.”
Kylo: “I’ll tell Kiani and Rocco the plan. (Darkwood manor garden arresting Conan)”
In Kiani’s head: We'll get him out before the trial.
In Rocco’s head: Seeing a wolf shifter arrested does it sit well with me. But he killed a human boy for no reason. But I respect him for confessing to save Kiani. He cares for her. For that, he deserves to be free, and I’ll follow Billie Jean’s plan.
Billie Jean: “Follow them. We need to know where he's being kept.”
Female Wolf Shifter: “Of course.”
Officer Carrie: “Thank you, Mr. Darkwood for your cooperation. He'll be held in a secure location until his trial.”
Rocco: “My mate Kiani is no longer in for questioning?”
Officer Carrie: “Not at all. We want peace. But you're kind have broken our laws and we need justice for Lucas Smith. Now the public might feel somewhat safe again. This is already overwhelming for the world's adjust to.”
Kiani: “You said you'll hold my uncle in a secure location? Already developing the technology to keep a wolf-shifter caged.”
Officer Carrie: “We might have been blindsided but our government was not.”
Asher: “I've got some disturbing news. (on a hill)”
In Kiani’s head: Brooke Hawthorne was on top of the hill side, looking down onto the Darkwood manor. She watches a wolf shifter with an eye patch. Lucas's killer, escorted into a police car.
Brooke: “Conan.”
In Brooke’s head: Kiani’s uncle. I've been searching and searching. There he is. He has a trial. She might be put down or not. We'll never know. But he'll be dead regardless. People highly underestimate me. My father thinks I never trained. Wasted my years cheerleading. I trained despite them.
Embry: “Why the hell are we following her?”
Fate: “I think she'll do it. I'll be impressed if she does. She could be one of us.”
Embry: “How sweet. You've taken little Brooke Hawthorne under your wing. Don't get too attached. She's asking for death.”
Fate: “Remember that wolf you saved? Isn't that her father? She's going to be so devastated that he's going to die.”
Embry: “Why do you always think I care? Do you know jealousy is an ugly trait?”
Fate: “You can lie to yourself all you want. When we go back to the organization you'll need to be reconditioned. Your wolf side is coming through more. Be careful. They might discover you're now letting your inner wolf control you. (Embry chokes Fate)”
Embry: “Don't make me your enemy. (Fate pushes Embry)”
Fate: “You and I have been through everything together. I'd die for you. Letting your inner wolf live is getting in the way of being a hunter, and you know it.”
Embry: “BACK OFF FATE! Keep playing with fire and you'll get burnt. (backyard)”
Asher: “The Night Walker pack is dead. Their pack house was burned to the ground.”
Rocco: “What about Fang?”
Asher: “Assumed dead but not confirmed. It was a slaughter, Rocco.”
Rocco: “Did you see the fire? Wolf shifters don't use fire to kill.”
Asher: “Do you think it was the Mystic Hunters? One of them uses fire magic.”
Rocco: “They were meant to be working together. That had backfired for Fangs pack.”
Asher: “Did you just try to use a pun? (Asher laughs)”
Rocco: “You act like I have no sense of humor.”
Asher: “Half the time, you don't.”
Rocco: “Don't you have pups to go look after? Find out if my so-called uncle is dead or not. Don't disappoint me with news that he's alive.”
Asher: “What if the Mystic Hunters come for us next?”
Rocco: “I doubt it. The media is all over the place. Not unless they want to be exposed to the world. One thing we know for sure. The Mystic Hunters don't work with wolf shifters. They double crossed them. I wonder if the hunters are working for the Hawthorne’s. (Bloodstone packhouse)”
In Embry’s head: What the hell am I doing here?
Kai: “Can't sleep, Billie Jean?”
Billie Jean: “I'm worried about him.”
Kai: “Conan is a strong wolf. He'll be fine. He's not going to die. (Billie Jean sees Embry in the bushes). What is it? (Embry’s gone)”
Billie Jean: “I thought I saw something.”
Kai: “I sensed that earlier. I'm going to go check it out.”
Billie Jean: “I'll go. I can't sleep. (backyard Kiani and Rocco holding the twins)”
Kiani: “Can I just say, how did we end up on night duty?”
Rocco: “So mommy and daddy can rest.”
Kiani: “What about our rest? I mean, I love the little munchkin. But I also love sleep.”
Rocco: “So do Nova and Asher.”
Kiani: “Not funny. How are you not tired?”
Rocco: “I am, but they're worth it.”
In Kiani’s head: Rocco would be a great dad. Maybe I should pop one out soon? Just to see the look on his face with our pups.
Rocco: “So, when do I get my pups? (Rocco laughs). I guess heat season will help. And that's coming up real soon.”
Kiani: “What?! (Kiani laughs)”
Rocco: “He’ll be okay, Kiani. I know you think this is all your fault but you're wrong. He wanted to do this. Plus, we're about to do a prison break.”
Kiani: “You were waiting to say that, weren’t you? I'm conflicted. I hardly know my uncle but he killed Lucas for no reason. But he's my blood. My dad's brother. Billie Jean’s dad. What he said to me before he got arrested, I don't know what's right.”
Rocco: “I think living on the run, which will soon be reality, is enough punishment. Billie and Kylo believe he's worth saving. I trust them. (secure prison for wolf shifters)
