Chapter 27: Shadow
Crystal
A dark shadowy figure appeared in the midst of the fog, I tightened my hand on Captain Bayou, my body shaking from fear. The figure itself looks like a pirate, because of the shape of its hat and clothing. My heart thumped hard.
“There’s a pirate,” I told Captain Bayou. Captain Bayou took a step forward and squinted his eyes.
“Aye, he is, but who in the...” but his words were cut off, when his silver eyes widened, as though something had come into his view. He took a step forward and his hand started to shake.
“Oi, pirate.” I shook his hand.
“You!” He claimed. I turned to see the shadow still blending with the thick fog.
“Who is it?” I asked him.
“The king, who else, he’s standing there.” He pointed in the shadow.
“There’s no one there, but the shadow,” I told him. Captain Bayou shook his head, drawing out his sword.
“No one is there, please, believe me, there’s only a shadow.” I begged this time, he just ignored me and let go of my hand.
“You will die today,” he said, his silver eyes turned darker, and a dark smirk reaches his lips. Panic reached my heart.
This isn’t good. He’s going to attack nothing. Whatever this is, it’s playing with his head.
I moved rapidly and grasped his hand.
“Don’t go, there’s no one, is only a shadow, please believe me.” Now desperate, he shrugged me off and twirled his sword.
“Come and get me, you piece of scum.” He started to run toward it.
“No, no, it can be a trap.”
“Stop mocking, we aren’t going to do anything but the shadow is, it’s already awoken. So if you can leave this humble adobe.” The bald man’s words echoed my head.
Oh no, is this what Belle was warning us, is it here to take Captain Bayou soul?
I watched when he jumped, splitting the fog and the shadow at the same time, only to disappear into nothing.
“Don’t hide, do you know how much hell did I had to go through because of you? Oh, I’m going to enjoy ripping you into pieces. It’s not my choice to kill, but you made me a killer.”
What did he mean about that? I know if he kills, his life span gets shorter, but what did he mean is not his choice?
A howl erupted around us, a deep unnerving noise. My heart stopped and I shivered from the eeriness of it.
“Come here and fight me!” Captain Bayou swung his sword again, again hitting the fog, but then something happened, something splashed in my face. With shaky hands, I moved my hands and touched my face, to find something warm. I look down and it was blood.
Blood?
I looked up, and my eyes widened in pure horror, to see Captain Bayou on his knees, holding his stomach, coughing out blood.
“No,” I moved rapidly to his side.
“What happened? Are you okay?” My hands shook terribly. Captain Bayou glanced at me with a blank look. I cupped his cheek.
“Please talk to me, you’re bleeding,” I was now desperate, tears gathered in my eyes, then a shadow cast over us. I slowly glanced up, and to my surprise King Drake smiled down at us.
“Well, well isn’t the ugly bad mouth wench,” he grabbed my hair and pulled it hard. I hissed in pain.
“Now let’s finish what we never started, you shall be mine today.” My eyes widened in fear, and I started to struggle against his strong grasp. Panic filled me, I forgot about my training, about my powers, all I could feel was fear, fear that he was going to take me.
“Wake up, Bayou!!!! I need you!” I called out, as he disappeared from my eyes.
