Chapter the Wife 35

Chapter 35 A Boring Game

Hearing Jacqueline’s words in her defense, Sally felt a surge of warmth in her heart.

She hadn’t expected anyone to support her unconditionally given her poor reputation.

Thinking of Ms. Anna, Sally felt even more grateful.

When Anna’s condition improved, she really should visit her to express her gratitude.

“Thank you, Aunt Jacqueline,” Sally sincerely said.

“No need to thank me,” Jacqueline glanced at Mary and then smiled at Sally. “You’re Gale’s good friend. I’ve always treated Gale like my own son. If he values you, then so do I.”

Sally smiled shyly.

Linda, who had been observing the situation, glanced at Mary and suddenly said with a mocking tone, Sally is a guest in our home, yet some people, who aren’t even married to Anders yet, are already acting like the hostess…”

Linda’s words were clearly directed at Mary.

Mary’s expression changed quickly.

She glanced cautiously at Anders, who looked indifferent.

Mary knew that when Anders had this expression, he was usually angry.

Thinking about her imminent marriage to Anders, Mary couldn’t let her almost–certain future slip away.

She quickly looked aggrieved and said, “… …”

And then Mary started crying.

Everyone was taken aback by Mary’s sudden tears.

“Why are you crying?” Henry said, quickly giving Anders a look to calm Mary down. “We didn’t mean to blame you, Mary. Don’t overthink it.”

Hearing Henry’s words, Mary felt even more aggrieved and cried harder.

Linda looked at her with some disdain.

They hadn’t done anything to Mary, so why was she crying?

“Brother, are you confused?” Linda suddenly said.

Henry looked at his sister, puzzled, and asked, “What?”

Linda took a sip of milk and said, “If we’re talking about being wronged, I think Sally is more wronged, don’t you think?”

Mary’s face turned pale.

This was exactly the effect Linda wanted.

She sneered and said, “Some people start trouble, and when no one sides with them, they play the victim. How funny.”

Mary was so ashamed that she lowered her head.

After dinner, everyone left the living room.

Gale naturally took Sally outside to play. As they left, Anders‘ gaze followed them closely.

“Anders,” Henry suddenly stood beside Anders and said in a serious tone, “I need to talk to you.”

Mary, standing beside Anders, stiffened.

Henry didn’t like dealing with women much; he was more focused on his career.

Because of this, whenever Mary visited their home, Henry treated her indifferently.

Mary, being sensitive, noticed Henry’s attitude and quickly moved aside when Henry said he needed to talk to Anders.

Seeing Mary move away, Henry finally spoke to Anders, “What do you think about that woman?”

Anders naturally responded, “She’s my fiancée. We plan to get married soon.”

Henry sneered, “Anders, I’m talking about Sally, not Mary.

Anders fell silent.

“I may not have much experience in relationships, but I understand these things,” Henry said slowly. “If you choose to spend your life with Mary, don’t get involved with Sally. If you want to be with Sally, then separate from Mary.”

Anders remained silent.

Henry sneered again, “Are you really planning to get engaged to Mary next month? Isn’t that bigamy?”

Anders‘ face changed quickly!

“How do you know…” Anders asked hesitantly.

Henry looked at his side profile and said, “I’m not interested in your love drama, but Anders, if you truly like Sally, you should cherish her. Otherwise, if you realize your feelings too late, it will be difficult to win her back.”

“Win her back?” Anders found the idea ridiculous. “Brother, why are you so sure I’ll want to pursue that woman in the future? Are you joking?

Henry looked in the direction Gale and Sally had left and said, “How about we make a bet…”

Normally, Anders would have agreed readily, but this time, he hesitated.

“Boring game,” Anders turned and went back to his room. “Who wants to bet with you? Childish…” Henry’s lips curved slightly.

He already knew the outcome of this unwaged bet.

He was the ultimate winner, wasn’t he?

Gale took Sally to a park in the city, saying he wanted to take a walk after dinner. Sally didn’t refuse.

Thinking about how Gale had defended her during dinner, Sally felt touched.

“Thank you, Gale. Thank you for always standing by me and trusting me.” Sally said earnestly.

Gale ruffled Sally’s hair and laughed heartily, “Sally, I’ll always be by your side.”

Sally knew Gale’s words were ambiguous. Knowing she wasn’t worthy of him, she chose to remain silent.

Gale didn’t get angry. He pointed to a lawn not far away and said, “Let’s walk there!”

They strolled to the lawn slowly. After a while, a cute child holding a bouquet ran up to Sally with a smile.

“Beautiful lady, please accept this bouquet!” the child said, holding the flowers out to Sally.

Sally was visibly stunned.

Gale took the flowers with a smile and winked at the child, who then ran away.

Sally stood there, bewildered.

“Gale,” Gale got down on one knee, holding the bouquet out to Sally, “Will you be my girlfriend?”

“What?” Sally was so shocked that she took a step back.

Gale remained on one knee. “I will spend my life protecting you and never let you suffer again. Sally, be with me”

Sally’s eyes welled up with tears.

She never expected Gale to go to such lengths for her!
