Chapter 64 " Two Months Ago"
Elijah P.O.V.
Two months ago...
“Before I made that bet.”
I felt terrible that morning with Avery with the flagpole scene, but I had to stay in character with her. I can’t let people know I am in love with the shy wallflower nerd in school. I would be a laughing stake in the school. So, I hide my feelings for her. But I knew she was the one since we were in junior high school last year.
So, I have been stalking and following her until I had to go to football camp/alpha training this summer. So, I could not keep my eyes on her all time, but I did have a close-pack member watch over for me when I was gone to make sure she stayed out of trouble and didn’t do anything stupid. I don’t need that loser to get in my way.
“Yeah, right, that’s what you think,” I heard Axel say inside my mind with a laugh.
I rolled my eyes at him, and I was going to start walking away, but I kept hearing Avery yelling at me. I felt terrible, so I grabbed the rope and pulled it, and she fell with a scream, and I caught her in my arms, set her down on her feet, winked, and walked away. I didn’t know someone was watching us; at the time, no one was outside by the flagpole because everyone went inside the school, ready for class.
I cleared my throat and walked away from her with my heart beating and body on fire for being so close I could kiss and touch my mate. Yes, I have known since last year I turned eighteen years old. Girls are different when they find out about their mates when they turn nineteen, and the guys like me know we have a mate when they turn eighteen.
After school and football practice are over...
“Team on three.” The coach said in the huddle after practice was done. I am sweating, want to shower and hurry up before I miss her.
“TEAM” We all yelled, and I started running off the field.
“Woods! Where you are going in a hurry!” I heard my friends yell at me with a laugh. I didn’t want to stop and turn around; I wanted to hurry up to the locker room and see my princess.
After I exited the shower, I started getting dressed and checked my phone and the time.
Fuck! I must hurry, or I will miss her at her secret tree. She might be gone now. I started grabbing my backpack and football bag and ran out the door; before I knew it, some football friends followed behind me.
I kept looking behind me and didn’t see anyone following me. Good, I thought.
I started walking up to my secret tree on the underside of the school, watching her sitting under the tree reading a book she got her nose in it. She doesn’t see or hear me; I don’t want her to know this want I do. That I am stalking and watching her, I can’t let her see me or anyone.
I was watching her when I didn’t hear Matt, Ryan, Brain, Ed, Bubba, and Seth behind me.
“Hey, dude, what are you doing spying on the nerd?” I turned around and saw Matt and the guys staring at me with a shocking and confusing something evil in their eyes.
Oh, fuck they followed me here; think of something quick, I told myself.
“Oh hey, fellas, nothing, just waiting for Jake, Jayson, and Eli to pick me up.” “My truck broke down,” I tell them. I hope they bought that. Because I don’t want anyone, especially these assholes, they will never leave her alone if they discover that I am secretly watching the nerdiness girl in our school. I need to make sure no one hurts her and protect her from these monsters.
No, I heard Matt say.
What? You’re standing behind the tree watching the nerd because you want her.” Well, maybe you see something we can’t see.” I heard him say again.
Oh, no, say something they believe you.
“Her, yeah, right,” I said, pointing over at her with disgust all over my face, and I said with a laugh.
“Whatever you say, buddy,” Matt said and laughed with the rest of the guys.
“Why the fuck would I want that nerd bitch!” When I can have the hottest and the most beautiful and popular girls in school.” She nothing.” I said with a lie. She everything these bitches here don’t have. She is a gorgeous, pure, good person with a great heart and doesn’t try to be something she is not and is mean to others like the other rude and mean girls here.
“Oh, come on, dude!” There must be something about her; why would you drool down your chin.” He spoke.
When he said that, I checked to see if I was drooling, but my chin was dry, and I was relieved that it was no drool. Thank God for that.
“She doesn’t look bad, and she’s pretty.” I heard one of the guys say. Matt turned around and looked over at her. I looked, and we all stared around at her. She was sitting there, and her skirt blew past her thighs; I saw her pleasant, shaped pale skin leg. I swallowed hard not to think about what I could see under her dress, what kind of underwear she wore, or nothing under there.
Fuck! I can feel my dick getting hard in my jeans. I don’t need to be seen with a hard-on, and the guys would know I was lying about not wanting her. But I do not like how they stare at my girl like a piece of meat. I am getting pissed off, but I should try to calm down and not show them this is not bugging me.
“Well, lookie at that. The wallflower/ nerd has a sexy dress on.” I guess she is cute.” Maybe I should go over there.” I watch the expression on his face, and I know how Matt Jackson can be and his brother. They are never pleasant to people, especially girls like Avery Williams.
“Yeah, he said, licking his lips. I am going to walk over there.” He told us. He was moving, but I stopped him by yelling out.
NO!” I said with, not knowing what I had spoken out loud.
They all turned back around, and Matt looked at me with a confused and knowing look on his face.
Oh, fuck he seen how I act; he knows how I feel about Avery. So that’s why he said that. But I do know the want he has for her because I want her.
“Okay, I back off.” He spoke. I felt my shoulder relax, and I was relief what he said.
There is a, but I can feel it.
“But we going to make a bet?” I heard him say. Yep, I was correct; there is always a but when you know how the other person says something but never goes through with it.
“What kind of bet?” I asked him with a worried look on my face. He can see right through me. He knows what he is doing. What a fucking asshole.
He looked over at Avery with a knowing look and smirk. I knew he was saying about a bet, and she was part of it.
Oh, no, fuck, fuck, fuck. I thought. I wished Axel was here, but he was off with whatever he was doing in the back of my mind. He would know what to say and do right now. He probably came out and killed whoever was trying to hurt our mate. But right now, she is not broken or anything.
I saw Matt licking his lips, staring up and down at Avery; this made me angry, and I wanted to kill him for staring at my mate like that. She is mine to do with and to stare at with want and desire in my eyes, not his.
He took a step closer and spoke. Only me and I can hear.
“We both know you’re lying about not wanting her. But I know you want that nerd. Because I saw you this morning helping her down and had her in your arms.” I saw the way you were looking at her.” He said with a chuckle and an evil smirk on his face.
I swallowed in my throat when he was telling the truth.
I gave a nervous laugh, looked at him in the eye, and told him.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” I tell him with a reply and a blank expression on my face. I didn’t want to show any emotion. “Oh, okay, that’s what I like to hear.” He whispered under his breath; the only one who heard was him and me. So, he smiled, stepped away from me, and returned with the guys. That was when he spoke a little louder for the guys and me to hear him say.
“Okay, you have to make the wallflower, nerd.” He pointed over at her. I looked over towards her, and she was packing her stuff up and leaving.
Damn it! She is leaving without me. I follow her home, and she doesn’t know I am following her. I wanted to make sure you got home safe. Because I always follow her out. No, instead, I am here standing with these stupid assholes. I can’t follow her. I need him to wrap this up, so I don’t miss her leaving.
“No, I am not going to do anything, a bet really, oh come man. That’s stupid childish games.” I tell him, trying not to give away, and she leaves. They are not paying attention to her now. Because they all are staring at me, waiting for my following words to come out.
“No, you like this bet.” Oh, come on, buddy, you will love this.” He said with an evil smile on his face.
“Fine, Matt, I need to go.” Whatever the bet is, I am down.” I said so tell me about the bet. I can leave and go home. I am fucking tired. “I told him.
He said this back to me.
“Like I was saying, you need to get the wallflower loser to fall in love with you and embarrass her in front of the whole school at the dance.” If you lose, you have to drop out as the Alpha for your pack.” He said with a crazy look stare in his eye. Oh, I hate this guy; why I am friends with these assholes. I don’t want to be in their crowd anymore. They are all a bunch of childish dumbasses. I am friends with them because our parents are best friends and in the pack family.
I looked back at Avery; she got off the blanket she laid out, folded it under her arm, and started walking away. Oh, God, why didn’t I pay attention to who was behind me? So now, here I am, going to hurt an innocent girl who didn’t do anything to anyone.
I sighed; I had one word on my mind.
I am sorry. I turned back around at Matt and the guys. He had a smirk on his lips and had his hand out.
“You got a deal.” I looked down at his hand, and I looked up at him.
You got a bet I said and shook his hand. He had a sinister look on his face.
“Good.” He said, and I looked back at Avery, but now she was gone. But, I thought, what if she was gone forever once she found out what I had done?
I pray she never, never, never, ever finds out. I will use her forever because she will never forgive me.
Bet!
Bet!
Bet!
Why do I have to be so stupid? So, I thought with a slap to my head.
