The Unusual Occurrence Of Mote

Chapter Bonus Chapter: Mote and his num nums

"Mote, Mote?" Eary searched his bedroom. The 13-year-old Eary tirelessly tore apart his small room in search of his pet. It had been around a year since Ephraim mysteriously recovered from his illness. It was just after that the unusual Mote appeared. Although he could cause trouble, Eary had become very attached to the creature. But he had been distant lately. As a matter of fact, three days distant. And Eary feared he may not see his companion again.

"Mote, where are you?" Eary called out once again. Just then, his bedroom door opened. His brother Josh was standing in the doorway. "Who are you talking to?" He asked. His long blonde hair was pulled back into a backward cap. "Umm, no one. I didn't say anything." Eary said nervously. Josh rolled his eyes "You're friend is here, weirdo." Josh immediately turned around and left.

"Ephraim!" Eary thought excitedly. Bolting from his room and down the steps, he arrived in the living room. Mr. Bennett was standing next to the couch talking to Eary's dad. A skinny boy slightly taller than Eary ran up to him. "Hey Eary! I got two movies for our screening tonight." The boy laughed, showing Eary two films. "Eph, those are perfect!" The two had had a weekly viewing of bad films for years. It used to lift Ephraim's spirits when he was sick.

"Hey, Eph!" Brian had called back to his son. " You're gonna be good and listen to Mitchel and Delia. Right?" Brian asked his son half seriously. "Of course I will!" Ephraim said with a smile. Ephraim was a good kid. What kind of trouble could HE cause? Eary thought to himself as Mr. Bennet told his son goodbye and left the Olson home.

Eary and Ephraim were SO excited! The two boys grabbed Ephraim's things and ran up to Eary's room. Casting the backpack and sleeping bag on the bed, the two boys turned on Eary's video game console. After an hour, Eary's mother, Delia, came into the room. "Hey guys, you wanna head out and get some snacks for your sleepover?" She asked cheerfully. The two boys looked at each other and smiled a huge smile. "YEAH!" They both shouted.

The families had been making a big deal about their friendship. It was because of all the time Eary had spent with Eph when he was sick. "Ephraim and I will always be the best of friends. How couldn't we?" Eary thought to himself as they all got in his mother's car.

At the store, the boys loaded up on a variety of treats. Eary, however, needed a special treat to lure in Mote. And he knew just which one. Going down the snack aisle, Eary located his quarry. "CHEESY NUM NUMS!" Eary exclaimed as the youngster grabbed the large container.

"It's almost up to my chin!" Eary lamented to himself as he quickly made his way back to Mom's cart. Tossing it in and claiming to enjoy the item, Delia consented. After getting back home, Eary told Ephraim he needed a second in his room. Taking with him the tub of cheesy num nums, he quickly headed up to his quarters.

Once inside, Eary began to shake the container. "Mote?" He called out. Eary quickly opened the container and set it on his bed. The moment Eary stepped back, a blur of blue light dived into the irresistible tub of cheesy num nums.

Eary slammed the lid on the top. The bloated moteling stared helplessly. He was too fat now to dine and dash. Eary held up the tub to his face. "What is your problem?" Eary asked irritability. Mote full of cheesy num nums needed a minute to deflate. The two stared back at each other. Eary was annoyed while Mote seemed cool as a cucumber.

Mote returned to his normal size. "Now what the bright idea, here? Huh?" Mote exclaimed with his big attitude. Eary wasn't shaking. He knew Mote didn't act like this for no reason. "WHAT'S YOUR PROBLEM MOTE!" Eary yelled at the jug. Ephraim popped in. "Is everything OK? I heard you yelling..." The boy asked in concern. Looking quickly back at the, now, empty jug of cheesy num nums. He noticed, in both relief and horror, that Mote had gone invisible.

"Ummm..." Eary had been getting put on the spot a lot lately because of Mote. Luckily, he was getting "good" at his excuses. "I was practicing a new TikTok trend." Eary awkwardly lied. "A new TikTok trend?" Ephraim asked questioningly."Yep! It's where you scream into an empty jug." Eary said awkwardly. "Is this what you needed privacy for?" Ephraim asked, giggling. "Yes, it is! Now I have to rehearse a bit more. Cause we're making a video tonight of it!" Eary cheerily stated. "Shouldn't we practice together then?" Ephraim asked awkwardly. "Ummm... I'm really bad at it, and I wasn't looking to embarrass myself. Just five minutes more." Eary said, smiling as hard as he could. "Umm, ok. I guess I'll go see what Josh is doing for a bit then." Ephraim said as he left, looking a bit down.

Eary turned his head back in malice at his adorable tormentor. He had already manifested and was laughing his little but off. "Screw you, you nasty little mutant gremlin!" Eary ranted. "Oh..haha...hahaha....ohohoho...haahaa.hahaha..he..he..he.....he.........he............he.."

Mote's laughing slowly started to die down when Eary said. "You're gonna run outta air if you keep that up!" Eary remarked sternly. "Look, I'm sorry, kid...he.he.he. I ams." Mote lied to Eary, still chuckling under his breath.

"Then where have you been? I haven't seen you in a few days!" Eary exclaimed his icy blue eyes as large as saucers and filling with tears. "Hey, that's normal for me. But you're my person. So I'm always gonna come back to ya. K, pal?" Eary shook his head and released the small animal.

"Now don't let me catch ya doin' anything like this again. Or I'll have Peta up on your ass, bitch!" Mote threatened as he embraced Earhart. "Um, ok. Duley noted!"
