Chapter 2076
Chapter 2076
For the subsequent few days, Renee gave Joanne lessons while investigating the Garcia family's adoption of Quinton.
However, the seemingly clear lead suddenly broke, as though someone deliberately and secretly stopped her.
After several attempts, Renee grew more determined. She was certain there must be something fishy in it.
One ordinary weekend, she took the two children hiking. The spot she chose was a wild mountain around 60 miles away from Beach City. Leia, her best friend, tagged along.
Leia and Xavier had talked things out recently, and were quite lovey-dovey.
The two children hiked quickly and steadily. Renee and Leia followed them calmly while chatting.
"Are you going to get married to Xavier soon?" Renee asked.
"Oh, stop that! We're the kind of people who don't get married. We'll just enjoy our relationship," Lela said, gasping as she leaned on the hiking stick. She sounded quite casual. "Oh, so you guys won't get married?"
"What's so great about getting married? A lot of married couples regret it. Getting married will only exhaust affection. I don't want to see myself and Xavier end up hating each other..." Although Leia was a love-struck fool, she knew what she should do.
"Romance is beautiful, but if we get married, we need to face a lot of things. It'll be the union of our families and us. We're different individuals, but we need to be united. Of course, we need to abandon some parts of ourselves. Both Xavier and I are very self-conscious. Neither of us will compromise. If we want a long romance, we can't get married."
'That's logical." Renee nodded.
Upon dwelling on her marriage with Stefan, she found it similar.
"Getting married doesn't always promise a happy ending. Most of the time, it'll be a disaster. Although it seems to be a union, it's actually a binding situation. If we miss each other despite our free statuses, then it's true love."
"Yeah, that's true!" Lela snapped her fingers. "If he loves you, he can't run away. The marriage certificate is nothing more than a plece of paper. If he still stays with you without this paper, then he's really in love with you."
Both Renee and Leia reached the same understanding about marriage.
Renee felt that she might lead a very happy life even though she didn't get married. She suddenly felt much more relaxed with this idea, as if she had let go of a heavy task.
She didn't have to force herself to get to know anyone or spend time with them. She would let nature take its course.
While hiking, Renee suddenly brought up Liam, Leia's brother. "Speaking of, your brother is a perfect example."
"Many years ago, I heard the same logic from him. At that time, I thought he was an immature guy. The ending of romance must be marriage! Two unrelated people can only be united by getting married. Now, I guess I was a bit old-fashioned..."
A sigh escaped Renee. She laughed at herself.
"It's never marriage that keeps romance intact. On the contrary, it'll speed up the ruin. Your brother's mind is more advanced than ours."
