Chapter Goodbye
I held Max tightly in my arms. “Guards, seize him at once! Put him in cell!” The king shouted. Someone came and took Max from my arms. I reached out to him but Ethan took my arms and pulled me to my feet. I wrapped my arms around him cried. I cried, not caring about who saw me.
“Dominick you idiot! Why did you try to kill Ethan?!” Natalie shouted. I didn’t hear Dominick’s reply as they were taken out of the room. “If you all would excuse us on this matter, thank you.” The queen said. I heard the sounds as everyone got up from their seats and began to leave the grand hall. I felt a hand on my shoulder.
“Snow, we must take care of your injury’s.” I looked up and Anna was looking down at me. I sniffled and nodded, She gently pulled me from Ethan and we walked out of the grand hall. “Is Max going to be okay?” I asked. Anna sighed, “I don’t know Snow.” She led me to a room and sat me down.
“First I need you to get out of this dress.” She handed me an outfit and left the room. I changed out of the wedding dress. I stared at in horror, this dress was supposed to be warn by a happy bride, and yet it was worn by a tortured girl instead. I slipped on the black stretchy pants and tank top she gave me. After a while the queen walked back into the room, a guard with her. She pick up the dress and handed it to him.
“Do whatever you can to get rid of this dress, burn it if you have to.” She said. The guard nodded and walked out of the room. The queen walked up and pulled me into a tight hug. “I’m so sorry,” she took my hand in hers and stared at my wrists. “I never thought they would go this far to get what they wanted.” She said. A woman came into the room.
“I’m sorry your highness, but i’ll need you to leave the room while I take care of Snow.” The woman said. “Take care of her.” Anna said. The woman nodded and Anna left the room. The woman started to pull some things from cabinets in the room. She turned to me and looked at my wrists. “The screws were dirty, you could have an infection.” She murmured. She began to clean off the dried blood to get a better look at them. She wrapped the tightly with gauze. Then she moved my hair off of my neck and began to clean the bite marks. “So brutal.” She whispered. I scoffed,
“You don’t even know the half of it.” I whispered. When she finished cleaning my wounds, she stood. “You must rest, you’re wounds are very brutal.” She said. I stood, “I cannot stay here, I must go see my brother.” I said. She shook her head. “No, you can’t see him yet, he’s still in critical condition.” She said. I scoffed.
“I’m going to see him.” I walked out of the room. I walked down the long hallway. After walking for awhile, I realized I had no clue as to where I was or where I’m going. I groaned and leaned against the wall. I slid down and sat on the floor. I pulled my legs up to my chest and wrapped my arms around them. I cried softly. I never wanted any of the to happen, coming here, mating on Ethan, almost getting killed, this happening to Max. I felt someone pick me up. I looked up and Ethan was looking down at me. “Shh, it’s okay Snow.” He whispered. I did something I never thought I’d do. I listened to him. I closed my eyes and fell asleep into a dark and dreamless sleep.
When I awoke again I was in a room I didn’t recognize. I got up from the bed and walked out of the room only to be stopped by two guards, “We have orders not to let you leave Prince Ethan’s room.” One of them said. Great. “Well, can I have some paper and a pen?” I asked. “Stay in the room, I will get what you need.” He said. I walked back into the room and sat on the bed. I’ve made my decision. Today is the day, I looked out the window. That I go home. The guard walked into the room, he handed me some paper and I pen. I thanked him and he walked out of the room. I walked over to Ethan’s desk and sat down. I set the paper in front of me and began to write. I wrote goodbye to Ethan, to Zach, to John and the king and queen. I wrote to Astra, to Jade and Chloe. When I finished it, I left it on Ethan’s desk. I shifted into a mouse, that was best escape point. I crawled out from under the door and hurriedly made my way down the hallway. When I reached my room, I slipped under the door and shifted back. I sat on my bed. I’m leaving, I have to, I’ve been here too long. I stood up and started to pack my bag. When I finished I opened my door and quickly walked down the hallway. I reached the doors and I walked out and into the garden.
“And where do you think you’re going?” I turned and saw Zach leaning against one of the pillars. “I have to leave Zach. I just can’t deal with any of this anymore.” I said. He smirked, And you think you could just sneak out of here?” He asked. “Well I was hoping.” I muttered. He smiled. “I’m not going to stop you, after all, it’s your choice.″ He walked up to me and hugged me, “I’m going to miss you.” He whispered. “I’ll miss you to.” I hugged him tight. When he let go her led me out to a car,
“This car will take you to the airport. Goodbye Snow.” He shut the car door. I looked out the window as the car drove away. Goodbye, Ethan. The car drive was silent, I cried the whole way. I didn’t want to leave, but I had to. When we pulled up at the airport I got out of the car and walked inside. I walked up to the line to buy a ticket. When I reached in my bag I noticed that Zach placed a note and some money in my bag. I smiled and held the note in my hand. “Hello how may I help you today?” The lady asked. “Hi I need a ticket to New Jersey please.” I said. I paid the woman and she handed me my ticket.
I walked over to a seat and sat down, waiting for my plane to be called. While waiting I opened the letter that Zach gave me. ‘Snow, I knew that you would leave someday, all of this being too much for you to bear. Part of me hoped that I was wrong and that you would stay with us. I wish that none of this would have happened to you, I was hoping to have an older sister that I could pick on. I guess that that won’t happen now, just know and be prepared that Ethan will come for you. But if he doesn’t then I will. I don’t want you to leave, just-just don’t forget about any of us okay? Love you, stay safe.’ I reread the note and wiped the tears from my eyes.
“Airline 56 to New Jersey leaving at gate 3 in 10 minutes.” I put the note in my bag and walked up to my gate. “Ticket please.” The man said. I handed him my ticket and he nodded, “Have a nice flight.” I walked onto the plane and sat down in my seat. I stared out the window until the plane lifted off. I watched as the place I became to know as home disappeared in the distance. I plugged my headphones into my phone and turned on my music, letting the soft music play into my ears I slowly started to fall asleep.
I was shaken slightly. “Miss the plane has landed.” A woman said. I nodded and stood up. I slung my bag over my shoulders and walked off the plane. I looked around the airport, and how the hell did I expect to get to Jake’s house? I walked out of the airport and called for a taxi. I got inside and told the man the address.
“You look beat up, is something bugging you kid?” The man asked. I sighed and looked out the window. “I just had to leave some very important people behind.” I said. The rest of the ride was silent. When he pulled up to Jake’s house I paid him and got out of the car. I sighed walked up to Jake’s door. I knocked and waited. “I’ll get it mom!” I heard Jake say. When he opened the door his eyes widened. He hugged me and spun me around,
“Oh my gosh Snow your home!” He shouted. “Jake what are you yelling about?” I heard Abby’s voice. Jake set me down and moved aside. Abby gasped. She ran towards me and tackled me in the grass. I laughed as we hugged. When she finally let me up we all group hugged. “Where have you been?” Abby asked. I sighed, “Boy do I have a story to tell you.”
I finished telling them everything that’s happened to me. Abby looked at me in shock,
“You’re joking right? I mean it’s impossible.” She said. I shook my head, “No i’m not joking, it’s all real.” I said. “Can we see?” Jake asked. I nodded. I stood up from the bed and shifted into a small tabby cat. I meowed and jumped into Abby’s lap.
“Wow, incredible.” She said. She began to pet me. I jumped down and shifted back again. I plopped onto the bed.
“But remember you can’t tell anyone, you have to keep it a secret.” I said. I held out my pinky and the grabbed it with theirs.
“We swear on our life. Your secret will always be safe with us.” Abby said. I smiled and laid back. “Jake will you do me a favor?” I asked. “Sure what’s up?” He asked. I sat up and looked at him. “Will you buy me some hair dye? I want to get rid of this red.” I said. He nodded and walked out of the room.
“So what, you’re like a runaway princess?” Abby asked. I laughed, “Well I wasn’t a princess, but I guess you could call it that.” I said. “But don’t you think he’ll come looking for you?” She asked. I scoffed, “As if he’ll know where to find me.” I said. “Snow look at me right now!” I looked up to her,
“He loves you, and you leaving him like that is going to kill him. He’s going to come and find you no matter what. I know when you left us we were devastated.” She said. I laid my head in her lap.
“I just don’t know what to do anymore, this whole thing is just a mess.” I sobbed. She began to play with my hair. After a while Jake came back. “Here I thought these would look best.” He said. I looked inside the bag and smiled. “Abby, wanna help?” I asked. “Duh, come on girly.” She took me into the bathroom and started to do her work.
When she finished I looked at myself in the mirror. My was was black that stopped near the end of my hair fading into a dark purple, and at the ends of my hair faded into a very light purple.
“It looks amazing.” Abby gushed. I laughed, I’m happy to be back. Though, apart of me still felt like I need to go back to Engor. I shook those thoughts out of my head. I walked out of the bathroom and into the living with Abby and Jake. I plopped on the couch and smiled.
“What are you smiling about?” Jake asked. “I’m just happy to be back.” I said. “Ready to go back to school tomorrow?” Abby asked. I scoffed, “Right back to the hell hole of life. I guess so.” I sighed happily and closed my eyes, drifting into for once, a peaceful sleep.
“Wake up Snow! We have to get ready for school!!” Jake shouted. I abruptly shot up and fell off the couch.
“Ow! Jerk ever heard of a nice way of waking someone up?” I asked. He laughed and pulled me off of the floor.
“Yeah, but what’s the fun in that?” He asked. “You still have some of my clothes here right?” I asked. He nodded, “You know where they are.” I walked walked up the steps to his bedroom. I opened his closet and grab an outfit. I was my black jeans, my long sleeve white shirt, my brown knitted scarf and black beanie and brown combat boots. I grabbed my book bag which was here for some reason and walked down the stairs.
“Question. Why is my bag here?” I asked. “Well you left it in your locker so I grabbed it for and brought it here.” Jake said. I quickly made some peanut butter toast and ate it.
“Well, let’s go losers.” I said. We all piled into Jake’s truck, him driving, me in the middle and Abby by the window.
“You know, I’m a little nervous, going back.” I said. “Well I know some people missed you and Max.” Jake said. Max? I left him behind, he was almost killed because of me and I just left him there. We pulled up in the school parking lot we all got out of the car. As we were walking into the school I heard the whispers.
“No way Snow’s back.” “I heard she got sent to rehab.” “But what about Max? Is he here?” Jake wrapped his arm around my shoulder, “Just ignore them.” He whispered. I nodded and walked to my locker. Being gone, I almost forgot my locker combination. But I finally remembered and opened the locker. I grabbed my books and closed my locker. I walked into my history class, only to be stopped by Mr.Ackles.
“Snow, you’re back.” He said. I nodded. “Yes sir, I didn’t stay as long as planned.” I said. He nodded and I sat down in my seat by the window. I pulled out my notebook and opened to an available page. I thought about what to write. I wanted to write down everything, but I just didn’t know how to put it into words. I looked out the window, when I left, fall was just starting, and now, it was close to winter. I wonder what it would be like if I never left, if I was never invited to Engor. What would I have done if I never met Ethan?
