Chapter 78

The True Lady Strikes Back Chapter

Cecilia was not afraid of fighting, but she certainly didn't like it. So, she ignored the threatened property management staff and called the police. After explaining the situation, she provided her address.

The phone operator looked at the police records on the computer and said, "The police set off ten minutes ago. They should be almost there." Cecilia already knew both Evan and Christopher had sent someone to protect her, so she wasn't surprised.

"Okay, I see. Thank you."

After hanging up the phone, she leaned against the wall at the entrance and waited for the police to arrive.

The property management staff continued to knock on the door.

When Cecilia did not respond, the staff was pushed aside by the thugs.

Shortly after that, Cecilia heard a series of rapid banging on her door and what sounded like an attempt to pry open her door lock.

Cecilia didn't know where those idiots came from. She thought, 'Did they watch too many movies?

Is the property management group a deity? Who says I have to listen to all their orders?

Do they think the door will crumple like a piece of paper with one smash?

Do they think the lock will give way like butter once they try to pry it?'

As she cursed them out in her mind, the wails of police sirens

reached her cars.

The corridor was well insulated, so the sirens could not be heard from ourside her door. Inacad, the noise had drifted in from the balcony.

The foolish thugs were still struggling to open her door until the police surrounded them

They were soon subdued by the police, and Cecilia opened the door

She asked, "Who's the fool who hired you clowns to visit me?" Those thugs, who had thought they were making a decent name for themselves in the underground circles, instantly felt humiliated and retorted violently

It's your door that is too hard to open!"

It was not the first time that they had broken into someone's house to teach them a lesson, but this was the first time they had failed to even open the door.

It was simply too embarrassing for them.

A thug silently lamented, "If this news gets out, how can I make a living as a thug?"

Cecilia read between the lines and said deliberately, "You make it sound as if you've broken into someone else's house before"

"Of course I did. In fact, I

Suddenly, the thug realized he had given away too much. He abruptly stopped speaking and glared at Cecilia

"Don't be so proud. Someone else will teach you a lesson!" Hearing this, the policeman slapped the thug on the head.

"How dare you threaten the victim? How dare you! Who instructed you?"

"No shame in revealing that. It's the Zabel family!"

Cecilia's suspicions were confirmed. She knew the Zabel family

I was behind it.

She thought, "I bet Juliana is responsible too. She's the most. troublesome of the lot!"

She pressed the tip of her tongue against her back teeth as an indiscernible expression flashed through her gaze.

As the police escorted the suspects away, she suggested, "You should do a urine test on them."

She was basically implying that the suspects had consumed drugs.

While Cecilia couldn't guarantee that every one of them did drugs, she was confident that two of the men would test positive, given their heavily sunken eyes. The policeman replied, "Sure, Ms. Yancey. You can apply for police protection before the investigation results are out."

"No, thank you. Just tell me the investigation results when they're out."

"Okay. If you sense any danger, please call the police as soon as possible."

"I will. Then this door..."

Although the thugs didn't pry the door open, they had scraped off the paint and damaged the lock.

"Someone will come to assess the damages later, and we'll compensate you in cash."

"The cost of my door and lock is not cheap. It's almost 60,000 dollars."

The thug almost vomited blood. "60,000 dollars? This is robbery!"

Even if they completed their job, he could only get 40,000 dollars.

Cecilia shot him a meaningful look. Then, she headed downstairs to take a stroll after her meal. The True Lady Strikes Back

When she returned from her stroll, she went into the

computer room and checked the surveillance camera footage she had retrieved earlier.

In the video, Joel was being bullied by several students. It was Juliana who stepped in to help him.

Since then, he had become Juliana's loyal follower. He was willing to risk expulsion from school or even imprisonment if it meant he could protect her. But he didn't know that Juliana staged the bullying situation to gain Joel's loyalty.

On the surface, Juliana was not involved with those who beat Joel up. Still, it wouldn't be difficult to find evidence proving she was the mastermind.

It was just that it had been too long, so it would be more difficult to investigate.

It took Cecilia several days to find all the surveillance camera footage to uncover the truth.

She only let Juliana have her way, not to let the latter off the h*ok but to ensure her reputation would eventually be

damaged beyond remedy.

After uploading the organized videos to her phone, Cecilia bathed and rested.

The next day, Cecilia woke up at dawn.

She made breakfast for herself calmly. After eating, she left for the racing track.

As soon as she exited the residential area, she saw Christopher waiting for her at the entrance.

He leaned lazily against the car with a look of indifference, a perfect replica of how he looked during their visit to the auction. The orange glow of the sun coated him with a soft light,

making him seem almost ethereal.

But when he saw Cecilia, the indifference was instantly replaced by tenderness. He opened the car door for her.

Cecilia hurried forward. She looked up at her tall, handsome companion and asked, "When did you arrive? Why didn't you go in?"

She felt the coldness on his body. Obviously, he had come early in the morning.

"It wasn't that early. I didn't come to you for fear of disturbing your rest."

Cecilia was moved by Christopher's gentleness.

She much preferred small, caring gestures over sensational displays of romance.

Love was not defined by sweet talk. It was a feeling to be silently integrated into one's life, which made up for one's imperfections and made everything right. She looked up at Christopher, her gaze sparkling.

"You haven't had breakfast yet, right? There is a sandwich shop nearby; their sandwiches are delicious. I will buy some for you."

She left right afterward.

Christopher closed the car door and followed Cecilia.

They made such a striking pair that they attracted a lot of attention.

The business of the sandwich shop was so good that the queue spilled onto the roadside.

Cecilia stood at the end of the line.

Christopher asked her quietly, "Why don't I make use of my money and buy sandwiches for everyone in front of us? That way, it'll help us cut in line." The True Lady Strikes Back

"No, the queue moves quickly.

Although there were many customers, the owner of the

sandwich shop moved quickly. A few minutes later, it would be their turn to order.

Christopher nodded and moved to stand beside Cecilia, blocking her from the heat of the blazing sun.

When he took Cecilia's hand, she didn't shake it off.

He smiled, and every cell in his body swelled with unspeakable joy.

They didn't speak, but the atmosphere was incredibly warm and sweet.

The next second, a car suddenly accelerated and rammed straight into them.

Christopher and Cecilia were agile, but the incident happened too suddenly.

As they dodged the car, Christopher suffered a nasty scrape to his right leg while trying to shield Cecilia.

The others nearby weren't as fortunate. Several people were flung aside by the car, and someone was run over.

Screams, cries, and curses filled the air.

But the driver ignored all the noise and remained focused on his goal..

He was obviously there to target Cecilia and Christopher, and he would ram through any and every obstacle to achieve his goal.

Evan had arranged for someone to protect Cecilia. Seeing that she was capable of dealing with the situation, they acted as a passerby and was ready to intervene at any time. Meanwhile, Christopher's men had stayed in the neighborhood instead of following them.

After avoiding the car again, Christopher said to Cecilia, "Call

the police. Protect yourself and leave the driver to me."

After saying that, he pushed Cecilia away and stood in front of the car.

Seeing that he was about to be hit by the car, the onlookers

shouted in horror.

"Ah! Be careful!"
