The True Lady Strikes Back novel (Cecilia and Christopher)

Chapter 69

Chapter 69

Upon noticing the caller ID, Christopher's typically impassive countenance abruptly shifted to one of grave concern

The phone number was not only encrypted but also bore the distinctive hallmark of encryption he was well-acquainted with. He swiftly answered the call, and on the other end, an unfamiliar male voice resonated,

"Protect Cecilia."

The man hung up the phone after saying that.

Even after the call had ended, Christopher found himself pledging to the phone, "I will!"

His swift acquiescence stemmed from the fact that the person he was tasked with safeguarding was Cecilia.

If it had been anyone else, he would have likely disregarded the

request.

After all, having resigned from the Peacekeeping Forces, he was no longer obligated to obey superior directives. Christopher made no attempt to uncover the caller's identity. Instead, he promptly deleted the call log.

Returning the phone to his pocket, he noticed Cecilia returning.

Although her expression still held a touch of seriousness, it appeared improved compared to when she had left.

As Cecilia settled into the car, she observed that Christopher showed no intention of driving off. Hence, she turned to him.

"With your cleverness, I assume you've realized that my participation in the racing competition isn't solely about defeating Jackson, correct?"

Christopher nodded and replied, "To be precise, you're using his reputation to bring attention to the bet-on agreement and showcase your excellent driving skills. Beating him is just a natural outcome of that strategy."

He hadn't thought much about it before. He merely assumed that Cecilia simply wanted to teach Jackson a lesson.

However, after receiving the call, he realized Cecilia had deeper reasons for her actions.

He inquired with certainty, "Does the person behind the scenes know about your driving skills?"

Cecilia felt that there was nothing she couldn't share with him, as the mission had ended completely four years ago. So, she nodded.

"I became a one-hit wonder Racing Master because of a mission back then. The mission was a success, and everyone knew the Peacekeeping Forces had resolved yet another major crisis. To avoid exposing my identity, I never got involved in car races after that," Cecilia explained.

After hearing that, Christopher knew Cecilia's intention.

"Do you want to use Racing Master's reappearance to publicize your identity and lure out the mastermind?" Christopher asked.

Cecilia nodded. "Yes, this is the least suspicious trap I could come up with."

Everyone knows about the strained relationship between the Yancey family and Cecilia, and signing a bet-on agreement with Jackson fits her character perfectly.

Once she defeated Jackson in the racing competition, she could smoothly reveal my identity as Racing Master. Christopher frowned and asked in a low voice, "Ceci, did the betrayal that occurred three years ago start because of you?" "It would explain why she was the sole survivor," he thought.

Cecilia's expression froze instantly. She clenched her previously relaxed hands into tight fists on her lap.

"If I can lure the mastermind and remain fine, I will tell you the

reason."

She thought it was best for fewer people to know about her connection with the Shaw family, as it would reduce the potential risk.

Christopher looked at Cecilia with a serious expression and spoke each word deliberately, saying, "I won't let anything happen to you as long as I'm here."

After saying that, he started the car and drove away.

Cecilia's anxious heart found sudden solace and her clenched fists relaxed.

She gazed at Christopher's striking profile, and her lips parted to speak.

"Thank you. I'd like to treat you to dinner tonight for the meal I owed you last time," Cecilia expressed.

Christopher glanced at Cecilia and smiled. "Are your thanks merely words?"

"Very well, then let's consider tonight's dinner as my gratitude to you. As for the meal I owe you, I'll make it up to you next time by being your personal.chef whenever you request it," Cecilia replied. "Okay. Shall we buy some ingredients to cook?"

Thinking that there wasn't much food in the condominium, Cecilia nodded and suggested, "Yes, let's buy some ingredients to cook your favorite dishes."

They headed to a supermarket not far from the condominium.

The pairing of the attractive man and the stunning woman would no doubt turn heads wherever they ventured. While making their way to the fresh produce section, they drew the The True Lady Strikes Back

gaze of onlookers.

Cecilia didn't like being watched, so she deliberately stayed some distance away from Christopher.

Christopher, on the other hand, would draw nearer to her as if he couldn't bear to be apart from her for even a moment when he realized her intention.

Cecilia felt quite embarrassed when she noticed the admiring looks of the people around them and wished to leave the area swiftly.

She then asked, "Chris..."

However, before she could finish her sentence, she observed the older gentleman next to her lightly bump the older lady.

"Look at her, so thoughtful! And here you are, always cooking the same old meals you like," the older gentleman commented. The older lady retorted, unimpressed, "If you were as

handsome as the young man, I'd be willing to do more for you, not just cook your favorite food. Sadly, you've got a face full of holes."

Having said that, she even playfully stepped on the older man's foot and added, "How can you be so picky when you don't even cook? If you dare, don't eat what I make!"

"I don't have the guts to do it. Even if you cook something I dislike, I will finish it too."

The two of them playfully bickering with each other while walking away.

The awkwardness on Cecilia's face had not turned into a smile.

She had encountered so many extraordinary events in her life that she yearned for the simplicity of ordinary days.- Christopher noticed her desire for a peaceful life and said, "Once everything settles down, we can live like this together." Cecilia snapped back to reality and didn't respond to his

previous statement. Instead, she simply repeated the question she had wanted to ask.

"What kind of food do you like?"

Christopher wasn't particularly picky when it came to food, but he did have a preference for lighter dishes.

He casually listed a few home-cooked dishes and inquired, "Do you know how to cook these?"

"It won't be a problem."

After saying that, Cecilia walked toward the seafood area and quickly bought the ingredients needed.

When they returned to the condominium, it was already six o'clock.

Upon opening the front door, she gestured to Christopher, saying, "Feel free to make yourself comfortable in the living room. There are fruits and beverages in the refrigerator if you'd like something." Then, she went into the kitchen.

As a matter of fact, she didn't know how to cook two of the dishes Christopher mentioned.

Fortunately, the Internet was thoroughly cultivated, and an array of tutorials were readily available online.

However, just as she managed to access a tutorial on preparing the dishes after fishing out her phone, Christopher made his entrance into the kitchen.

He untied Cecilia's apron and declared, "Allow me to take charge. Your assistance will be most appreciated."

"I cannot permit you to prepare the meal while I am the one treating you," Cecilia asserted.

Cecilia set her phone aside and contemplated donning her apron once more but inadvertently brushed against Christopher's hand.

His fingers, slender yet imbued with a subtle strength, carried a faint coolness that took her by surprise.

Instinctively, she retracted her hand, but Christopher grabbed

it

"Since you've touched my hand. Ceci, it's only fair if I touch you as well

When he said that he ambiguously traced his finger along the palm of Cecilia's hand.

It caused Cecilia's fingertips to quiver, and an enigmatic sensation began to unfurl within her heart.

In astonishment, she hastily withdrew her hand, shedding the apron and flinging it onto Christopher.

"I'm a little thirsty. I'll get some water for myself. I will be right back."

As he watched her hurriedly retreating silhouette, the vividly colored blood-red mole at the corner of Christopher's eye appeared even more captivating. Cecilia's bashful appearance was quite irresistible, and he found it hard to contain his desire at that point.

He felt like wanting her there and then.
