Chapter Heiress’s Return 107
Chapter 107
"Where's the delivery?" The man's extremely hoarse voice came slowly from behind the door.
Shakira smiled, looking at the order on her phone, "It's less than fifty meters away; it should be at the door soon." "I'll go get it for you."
"Thank you, sir! You're the best!"
The sound that responded to Shakira's flattery was the cold, unfeeling roll of the mechanical wheelchair.
After a while, Walter returned. "I put it outside; you can come out and get it."
"If I get up, I'll dirty it... Could you open the door just a crack and toss it in?"
Outside, there was a long silence again.
Just when Shakira thought Walter had given up on her, the bathroom door cracked open.
A long, bony hand, holding a small pink square, reached in.
Through the gap, Shakira could see him maintaining that position, sitting sideways in his wheelchair, turning his head and stretching out his arm. "Did you get it?"
Shakira snapped back to reality. "A little more to the left."
The big hand moved left.
Shakira reached out and grabbed it. "That's good, thank you."
"Women are really troublesome," he muttered as he slammed the door shut again. 'Although he has a bad temper, he's not completely indifferent.
Shakira quickly tidied up and hurried to bed, burying herself under the covers. She needed to warm herself up so the next while would be more bearable. As she pressed on acupressure points to ease her discomfort, the door was pushed open again. "Young master?" Walter's face was dark as he placed a thermos on the bedside. "I saw online that women should drink more hot water at times like this."
'Forget it, I can't refuse Walter's kindness. Under his piercing gaze, Shakira gulped down most of the hot water. Her body felt warmer, but her complexion remained pale.
Walter frowned. "Drinking hot water doesn't help?"
Shakira couldn't help but glance at him. "It's not medicine, of course it's not that miraculous, but it does make me feel a little better."
Hearing this, the man's already furrowed brow tightened even more, wearing a look of deep distress. "I'll have my aunt come. back."
"Don't! Even if my aunt comes back, I still won't feel well. That's perfectly normal; my health has always been poor."
"So what do you plan to do now?"

"I need to fall asleep quickly I used to feel unwell too, but this time it's so sudden. I think I'll feel worse in a few hours, so sleeping will help."
Walter looked at her expression, which subtly revealed her discomfort. "Are you sure you can sleep now?"

"I'll try hard; young master, you don't need to worry about me. I can handle it myself." As Shakira spoke, she wrapped herself in the blanket and began mindlessly scrolling through a short video site.
Just then, the algorithm picked up on her intention to sleep and suggested a male voice-over blogger who was singing and playing guitar. His voice was soft and gentle, humming a melody. 'It's actually quite nice! After listening for a while, Shakira clicked into the live stream, putting her phone down to let the sound lull her into sleep.
However... "Strange, why is it getting colder?" Shakira suddenly felt a chill at the back of her head and pulled the blanket tighter.
Suddenly, the man's icy voice cut in unexpectedly, "You can handle it just fine, but you're listening to a man sing?"
Shakira jumped, turning to face the coldly furious Walter, and stared blankly. "You haven't left yet?"
Walter snorted, sarcastically. "Am I interrupting your listening to a man sing?"
"No... his voice is actually quite nice. It's soft, and if I listen for a while, maybe I can fall asleep."
"Oh, his voice is nice and you want to listen, but my voice is bad, so you want me to leave?"
Shakira felt dizzy. 'Is it the pain from my period that's making my brain go blank? Why can't I understand why Walter is suddenly so irrationally angry?" "No, young master's voice is definitely better than his..."
Walter emphasized each word sarcastically, "My voice is nice, and you want me to leave."
Shakira sighed in resignation. "Young master has a nice voice, but young master won't sing for me."
Walter frowned in annoyance. "Do you have to listen to songs to sleep?"
""Not necessarily; stories work too."

This time, without waiting for Walter to speak, Shakira blinked at him expectantly and took the initiative. "Are you going to tell me a story instead of letting me listen to songs?"

In the evening, the Skyla couple returned from church.
The house was quiet. Skyla noticed Brian sitting in the living room using the computer and lowered her voice to ask, "Are Walter and Shakira resting?"
Brian nodded, then shook his head. "The young master isn't sleeping, but Ms. Nelson is."
Skyla glanced at the time. "It's getting late. I'll go wake Shakira so she doesn't sleep too long. Otherwise, she won't be able to sleep tonight, and you all need to head back tomorrow."
She tiptoed to Shakira's room and gently turned the doorknob. But just as she pushed, the door open, she heard a low, gentle -voice coming from inside the room. It sounded more like... storytelling?
Skyla wasn't sure and looked again. "This is definitely Shakira's room, but why is Walter inside?' Taking a deep breath, she opened the door wider. Sure enough, Walter's voice grew clearer This time, she could finally hear that he was indeed telling a story, specifically historical tales from his elementary school textbooks. Skyla was extremely surprised and couldn't help but peek in to see more. At last, she saw Shakira curled up in the small bed, sleeping soundly, her cheeks flushed with color. Walter sat at the bedside, one hand under the blanket, seemingly rubbing Shakira's belly. Meanwhile, a book was spread

across his lap; it was one of his childhood extracurricular reading materials.
Hearing the noise, Walter looked up at her and gestured for silence.
Skyla understood and winked at him, quietly backing out.
Just then, Elvis walked over, and Skyla gestured to him, pulling him away.
Elvis couldn't help but chuckle at his wife's expression. "What's going on here?"
Skyla laughed happily. "Walter is in Shakira's room telling her a story to help her sleep."
Elvis was taken aback. "Walter? Telling stories?" "This is utterly absurd!'
"You're surprised too, right? I was shocked as well. I didn't expect Walter to take care of the girl like this."
Elvis smiled. "When you meet someone you like, even the impossible becomes instinct."

Skyla beamed with joy. "Then I won't disturb the little couple. I'll heat up some food and wait for Shakira to wake up to eat!"
Elvis hugged his wife and laughed. "Okay."
The next day, Walter and the others left Oberlin for Crescentville.
After a restful night, Shakira sprang back to life. As she bid farewell to Skyla, Skyla held her hand tightly, beaming with joy, saying she should stay longer next time.
Shakira wanted to say that she might not be at the Lopez family next time, but thought better of it and kept it to herself. In the car, Walter, who hadn't slept much the previous night, was resting with his eyes closed.
Feeling guilty, Shakira touched her nose, not daring to disturb him. I didn't expect that I'd just mentioned it casually, and he really sat on the bed for hours, rubbing my belly and telling stories until his voice was hoarse... Shakira huddled in the corner and picked up her phone, only to find several text messages had come in overnight.
