Chapter 73 - Secrets
"My name is Cassius, I'm a wizard, or a warlock. Whatever you want to call it. They're all pretty much the same, I suppose,” the man told me. I stared at him, my eyes looking over his bright features. He was an ashy blonde, a man with dark caramel brown eyes. He was kind of gorgeous.
"I'm Atia. We're all witches," Atia told me. She motioned to the other women at the table who nodded at me. I nodded back, showing that I understood.
I had so many questions.
"I'm Drusilla,” the dark haired woman said.
"My name is Livia," the last woman told me. She had bright blonde hair and pretty green eyes. They were all pretty and entrancing to look at.
"Your name is Alison, and you live with the vampires, Ezra and Jenny. They're nice, only met them a few times though," Cassius said. I widened my eyes at him. How the hell did he know that?
"And even more interesting... you're Blake Grey's daughter. I'm sorry about your father by the way," Drusilla added. She looked intrigued by me, and sat forwards in her seat. I stared at her in shock.
I felt a pang of hurt in my chest. I'd barely talked about my father since his death and I didn't intend on it. It was still a sensitive subject.
She knew about my father? How? Who were these people and what the hell were they doing in this cottage?
"I don't understand... who are you? How do you know who I am?" I shook my head as I looked at all of them. Part of me told me to get up and leave. The other part told me to stay and listen.
My beast wanted me to stay. She was intrigued.
I stayed seated.
"It's a long story, child. Do you have time to stay?" Livia asked me. I looked to her, and then back to the others. A long story?
I knew that people would start asking questions if I didn't show up soon. But I could just tell them I fell asleep in the sun or something stupid. I had time.
"I've got time,” I said. They all nodded at me.
"Let's start from the very beginning. It'll make this all easier to understand," Atia stated. The others nodded in agreement and crossed my arms nervously.
I wasn't sure if what I was about to hear was going to be good or bad.
"There are two different types of witches. There's a big difference between the types. There's witches of elements, and there's witches of dark magic,” Cassius told me. I nodded slowly.
"Atia and I are witches of elements. Drusilla and Livia are witches of dark magic,” Cassius added. Dark magic? Isn't that supposed to be evil? Were they evil?
"When you were pushed off the ground before, that was me. I manipulated the wind and I pushed you back. I could've crushed you to death if I hadn't realised who you were,” Atia told me. I frowned slightly, and then Drusilla cleared her throat.
"When you were feeling confused and cloudy in your head before, that was me. I was in your head, making sure that you were too dumbfounded to react,” Drusilla told me. I raised my eyebrows at her. She could do that?
"We're all very strong witches. Which is why we all stay together. There are a lot of people in the world who want to find us, to use us for our powers," Livia explained. I nodded slowly.
This was all still barely making sense. I was still confused. What were they doing out in this field? "People like Henry," Atia added.
I frowned at her. People like Henry? He wanted them for their powers? Why? What did he need them for?
"Your Alpha is not as innocent as he seems. He's a monster,” Cassius spat out. I was slightly surprised by his reaction, but I couldn't disagree. It was true. Henry was a monster.
"You should know he’s not all innocent by now. The things he's done to you previously. And what he's done to you now by splitting up you and Liam... disgraceful,” Atia hissed. I raised my eyebrows at this. They know about that? How?
"A long time ago, before Henry took over as Alpha, he found us. He lured us in and gave us this cottage. He was nice to us, and he tricked us into thinking he was giving up everything he had to keep us safe,” Livia said. She sounded hurt.
"After the Alpha and the Luna were killed by Henry's disgusting family—"
"What?" I shouted. My eyes widened and I felt sick to my stomach again.
They all gave each other worried looks. So they should. Did they just accuse Henry of killing my mate's parents?
"Don't be loud, child. As confusing as this all is, you have to be quiet. If they hear you or see you, you'll be in deep trouble. We're breaking all the rules by having you here," Drusilla hushed me. I shut my mouth and tried not to whine and complain.
They needed to keep explaining.
"Henry was a rogue, once upon a time. He found us while he was still a rogue. He'd just been kicked out his pack, his mate and their three children too—"
"Henry has three children?" I hissed out, interrupting Livia. She nodded at me. I felt sick to my stomach.
"Leave questions to the end, child. This story will take too long with interruptions,” Atia said softly. I bit the inside of cheek and forced myself to shut up.
"Henry was kicked out his pack. His family too. His two sons and his daughter. He found us not long after. He then joined Takiani's pack, kept us here unnoticed," Cassius continued. I shook my head to myself.
Henry was a rogue? He had three children? Where was the second son? Was he even alive?
"Henry wanted to be Alpha, so he planned an attack. He joined the pack, and he went through with the rogues attacking your pack. He killed your mate's parents and many more. Nobody but us knows at this point in time,” Drusilla said. I widened my eyes at her in shock.
What? He killed them? He was responsible for the death of the parents I would never meet?
I sucked in a shaky breath.
"There's things were can show you, things that prove all of this is true," Atia said softly. I felt sick and faint. I didn't want to believe it was true. But it had to be.
"Can you show me?" I ask with a shaky voice. The witches all looked at each other. They nodded. "Yes. But not now. Let us explain the story first, and then we'll show you," Livia said. I nodded with them.
"Henry stepped in as Alpha. But after going rogue, you're never as strong as you once were. So he came to us. He kidnapped the fifth member of our group, Mira. She's a witch of dark magic too, and the strongest of our entire group. He took her, placed her in a dungeon. He's been keeping her away from us for many years now," Atia said bitterly. I saw the hatred in her eyes. It made me feel sick.
"He said that if we didn't help him, he'd kill her. That man is delirious. We knew he was serious, so we've been helping him. We use our magic to keep him strong. We're the only reason that man is still an Alpha. But he's not as strong as someone like you, or even Liam," Drusilla explained. I nodded slowly.
"If we stop fuelling his powers, he'd turn weak and he'd be tired. Anyone would be able to kill him. We can only fuel his powers though. Which is why his mate and his children aren't extremely strong Alphas like they should be. It is also why you barely see your Luna. She is too weak to be seen out in public too often. People would figure it out," Livia added on. I frowned and gaped.
It made sense. I couldn't argue with it. It was all too real.
I had always thought Henry was too scrawny and weak looking to be an Alpha. I had always wondered why Anthony and Veronica weren't strong wolves. It was because they were rogues many years ago.
Did Anthony and Veronica know about all the things that their father was doing?
"But this magic has a price. The more they use, the weaker they get. Their magic won't fuel Henry forever, and he'll either have to find other witches or he'll have to have someone take his position as Alpha," Cassius said. I nodded at him. I was happy at that. If I couldn't get rid of Henry, he would at least fade out eventually.
"The only reason we do this is to keep Mira safe. We know she's still alive. But she's weak. She's too weak to escape the dungeons she's in," Atia told me. I nodded at her. I still felt sick to my stomach. "For a while now, Henry comes out at least once a week to visit us. He updates us on what's happening. He's been telling us all about you for a long time now. You're in real deep trouble, child,” Drusilla told me. I frowned at her.
Trouble? What kind?
"Henry wants you dead, and he's planning another attack to try and kill you. Your entire group of friends are the targets. But he wants you dead the most. Even your mate. He wants all of you gone so he doesn't have to worry about you ruining his plans,” Livia said. I nodded slowly. I didn't doubt that Henry wanted me dead. But it was a surprise that he wanted everyone else I loved dead too. My chest rumbled and I tried to calm my beast. She was furious. She wanted blood. She wanted Henry's head on a stick.
"None of the plans he has made are complete yet, but he's not far from it. He's still working with the rogues. He always has been. That is why he doesn't care about the rogues sightings or even the attacks. He's the one who orders for them to happen,” Cassius explained. My mind started to race. That meant no one was safe. None of us were safe anymore. There was a target on my head. "There's a big attack coming soon, darling. You'll be right in the middle of it if things don't change,” Atia told me. I sucked in a deep breath and shook my head.
I was still confused. How could all this happen?
"Can't you just overthrow him?" I asked them. They all sighed.
If they were such powerful witches, why couldn't they just overthrow Henry?
"We don't know where he's hiding Mira. He has a secret dungeon somewhere in this territory that only he and a few others know about. We can't find her, and if we knew where she was, we'd get her, and we'd kill Henry," Drusilla replied. My beast growled and my chest rumbled again.
That made me angry. My body boiled with hot blood. I was furious. I finally had the proof that I needed to take down Henry.
But how could I tell people? How could I get them to believe me? What about Liam? He needed to hear this for himself. He had to know.
But then what? Henry could still have the rogues attack the pack. People could die.
"There are also a group of vampires that Henry has working with him too. They used to be a part of the pack, until the old Alpha kicked them out. They're angry and want revenge on the Hastings family. They'll attack when the rogues do," Cassius added. I screwed up my nose and shook my head. I could take down a vampire easy.
"Child, give me your hand. It's time for us to show you what you've been needing to see," Livia said finally. I looked up at her and hesitantly held out my hand to her.
She took my hand, and Drusilla grabbed my wrist. Their hands were ice cold. It was odd. But I didn't question it.
I needed to see whatever they were going to show me.
"Stay calm. It won't take long," Drusilla told me before the two witches shut their eyes. I looked to Atia and Cassius who both nodded at me.
I relaxed and I shut my eyes.
I felt myself being pulled and I opened my eyes. I wasn't sitting in the chair anymore. I jolted and looked around.
"Calm, child. Calm," I heard a soft voice in my ear.
I tried to relax again as I looked around me. I was standing by a lake. I recognised it. It was one of the lakes where we went for hunting. There were always good fish and lots of deer around.
But this time, there weren't any deer or fish. But bodies. So many dead bodies.
There was chaos everywhere. There were ear shattering screams and there was pools of blood. The river water was tinted red. I smelt smoke and saw the smokey clouds.
If chaos had a scent, this was it.
I gasped as I looked around. I held a hand to my mouth as tears welled in my eyes. Was this what I thought it was?
"The moon will have its revenge for what you've done. You won't get away with this, Henry," I heard a female voice from behind me. I turned around, gasping at what I saw.
It was a group of rogues. They were all covered in blood. But it wasn't their blood. There were bodies face down on the blood.
There were so many bodies.
A man was lying on the ground. He was dead, his throat having been torn out. I let out a sob as I saw his face. I knew who he was
It was Adrian. It was Liam's father. He looked so much like Liam, it was insane. They had the same build, tall and muscly. They had the same hair and the same nose. Liam's eyes were darker than his father's and he had more plump lips.
I tore my eyes away from the man who I loved even though I had never met him. His blood flowed into the river along with the other blood from the other bodies.
Miriam was the woman being held. Her hair was a mess, sticking to her neck. She had beads of sweat dripping down the side of her face, blood from a cut on her cheek and nose.
She was beautiful, but her face was twisted in pain and agony.
She was shouting at Henry who was laughing and smiling.
Her and Lila were almost the same. It made my heart stammer. They were both beautiful. They looked so similar. It was like watching an older version of Lila
"Your children will live in my shadow until they're six feet under. They'll always be the kids who could've been something," Henry sneered at Miriam. She snapped her teeth at him and growled lowly.
"You're weak, and from weak parents comes weak children. They will never amount to anything, especially Liam. I'll keep him where he belongs; the shadows,” Henry yelled out as the rogues struggled to hold Miriam down.
My beast rumbled deeply.
"And when the time comes, I'll destroy them and everything they love. Their worlds will crumble at my feet,” Henry laughed wickedly. He sounded mad, like he was insane. He had a look in his eye. A look for blood.
"You won't touch my children! You will pay for what you've done. Your luck will run out,” Miriam hissed at him. Henry only laughed some more.
"Watch me ruin their lives from wherever you end up,” Henry said before he raised his hand and slashed out Miriam's throat.
I gasped and took a step back as I watched the blood pour from her body. The rogues holding her dropped her body and she fell flat. Her blood pooled underneath her, and it trailed off into the river. "Mel, you must go now. Back to the children. Don't leave until I come to get you later," Henry said, turning around and looking straight at me. I spun around, watching Melissa walk towards Henry. Adrian's body was in her way. She didn't walk around him, or step over him. He walked on him, a smug smile on her face as she kissed her mate's cheek and then ran off.
I couldn't help but cry.
"Get the hell out of here. When the others arrive, you won't want to be here. The witches will cover your scent. Go," Henry ordered the rogues that stood around him. They all nodded and began to run. One stayed.
"You better not back out of our deal, Henry. We want to live, and you promised,” the rogue said before he shifted and tore off into the woods. Henry turned around and smirked before he pulled a switchblade from his back pocket.
He sucked in a deep breath and then stabbed himself in the stomach, winced and then collapsed.
I was being pulled again, and I found myself sitting back at the table again. I gasped and pulled my hand away from the two witches.
"You need to get the hell away from here. Or at least get your loved ones to leave. You're all in danger," Drusilla told me. I painted for air as I looked around me. I was safe.
I held a hand to my mouth as I tried to hold back my sobs.
Henry had killed Liam's parents. He was responsible for the pain of the pack. It was all his fault. "Shit. He's coming. He's here. I can feel him from across the valley," Cassius suddenly said. He jumped up from his chair.
"Child, leave! You must leave this instant!” Livia said. They all got up from their chairs and I wiped my eyes as I did so. We all rushed to the front door. It flew open.
"Forgive me for what I'm about to do,” Atia told me. I felt myself be picked up from the ground by nothing, and then tossed through the air.
I cried out as I landed hard on the ground. The atmosphere around me changed again and I felt myself being forced to stand up.
I saw Henry coming my way. He had several men with him. I was in deep trouble.
