The Transfer

Chapter 63 - Strike Out

Liam stopped me and pushed me gently against a rock. I sat on it without protest and crossed my arms. I felt the blood on my back and my neck, as well as on my face and hands. I knew Veronica looked worse and that's why I wasn't bothered.

I couldn't believe she had come at me like she did. My beast was pacing back and forth with pure rage and fury. She wanted blood, she wanted to put the damned female in her place.

"You're so stupid,” Liam told me as he licked his thumb and wiped the blood off my face gently. My nose and mouth were bleeding but only a little.

His hot breath fanned my face and I realised that I wasn't at all mad about fighting Veronica. My beast was pissed but I felt somehow calm. She was the one in the wrong. She was the one who started the fight. She started getting angry at me and started abusing me. I was fine with staring out the window and not saying a word to her until Liam retuned.

I couldn't get in trouble for it. I hadn't done anything. I had defended myself against the crazy, jealous bitch.

"I didn't start the fight, Liam. I swear I didn't," I told him as I looked up. His eyes were fixated on my neck, which was badly bleeding. Veronica was trying to tear out my throat. She was almost successful.

Oh, how she's regret it.

"I know, sugar. But Henry won't believe that,” Liam told me softly. I shut my eyes as he ripped the bottom of his shirt and used the fabric to dab at the blood on my neck.

"He should know better than anyone that his daughter is the more likely one to attack out of the two of us. I know better than to throw myself at someone like that,” I said angrily. If I were to be punished and Veronica weren't, things would hit the fan.

Henry was different. He made impulse decisions. He didn't use his head and think about things. He said whatever came to his mind and got angry too fast. He wasn't a good Alpha.

"Henry does whatever Veronica wants. She's a daddy's girl and he loves it," Liam sighed out. I softened and looked at him quizzically.

"Are you telling me that I'm definitely going to be the one in trouble?" I asked him. Liam shook his head at me and sighed.

"No, but it's more than likely,” Liam replied. I frowned at him and felt a little hurt. Would he stick up for me or let Henry punish me?

"But I'm not going to let him punish you for something that you didn't do, sugar. It's not right, and I've always got to defend my girl," Liam said, answering my unspoken question. I smiled weakly as I looked up at him.

My beast calmed by his presence and his touch. She knew he'd look after us and we cherished it. "She was the one who started the argument; telling me that you were hers and that I was practically stealing you away from her," I told him. Liam bit his bottom lip slightly but he nodded at me regardless of the look of worry on his face.

"I'm sorry," I told him. He smiled weakly and shook his head as he cupped my cheek in his soft palm. "Don't be. It's not your fault. I know she started the argument, sugar,” Liam replied softly. He bent down and kissed the bridge of my nose gently. His lips were soft and comforting.

"What's her problem, Liam? Why won't she leave you alone? Is she trying to push us apart?" I asked him, hesitantly. I didn’t want Veronica to be the reason for all my arguments with Liam. She wasn't that important, but she was there. She was there and it was an issue.

Liam and I were already so rocky. With me keeping secrets and him probably having secrets of his own, I we had to be careful. Our relationship was still new and we still didn't know everything about each other.

"I don't know, babe. I wish I did so I could just make her go away. But she's obsessed with tearing us apart,” Liam replied. He took my hands in his and kissed the top of my knuckles gently.

My skin tingled delightfully.

"She's not going to tear us apart, is she?" I asked him. Liam shook his head at me and I nodded almost in relief. I didn't want Liam and I to fight. I wanted him that badly.

The bond was so hard to fight. It was even harder when him and I fought. I knew I didn’t have a lot of time left before I had to stop fighting against the pull, but I knew I still had time. It wasn't right yet.

"You calm now? I can get Ezra or Jenny to clean your injuries properly,” Liam asked me. I nodded at him, getting up from the rock slowly. My neck was beginning to ache.

“Liam,” I said, stopping him as he began to walk. He turned around to face me. He raised his eyebrows at me and waited for me to speak. I gulped a little nervously.

"If something happens, you have to promise that you're going to do what's right, even if it hurts," I said. I heard the fear and doubt in my voice that fuelled the panicked inside my mind even more.

I was scared of what was going to happen. I had no idea what was actually going to happen, but I knew for sure that there was going to be something that would go down. After Veronica attacking me, and then blaming the fight on me, I knew that I wasn't going to be the most loved person in the pack.

But no matter what, Liam had to stay in Takiani and he had to make sure that Henry went down slowly and painfully. Liam was going to be Alpha one day, I knew it. My beast knew it and I had a feeling that he did too.

"What do you mean? What are you on about, sugar?" Liam asked me. He stilled a little, his eyes trained hard on me. I shook my head at him.

I wasn't trying to worry him. I was trying to get the right idea into his head.

"Even if something happens to me... or you, or anyone else... you have to do what you know is right,” I told him confidently. Liam paused, frowning a little before he inhaled a little and nodded. "Always," Liam said. But he looked doubtful. He didn't know what I was talking about, but for the moment he didn't need to. He still wasn't ready to know. He still thought reasonably highly of Henry and I didn't have any hard proof to prove that Henry was some sort of traitor.

Liam took me hand and he walked me back. When we got to my cabin, Liam told that Henry was calling him for business. So he left. But not before promising me a dozen kisses when he returned. I sat with Ezra and Jenny at the table, Jenny standing beside me as she fixed my scratched up neck. "Henry is pissed, Ali. It took me every argument I could come up with to convince him not to throw you into a dungeon or kick you out the pack,” Ezra told me. I nodded at him.

"Veronica was lying. She was the one who came at me. She knocked me through the window, I swear,” I told him. "I wouldn't lie."

Ezra nodded at me and sighed. Jenny rubbed my shoulder a little. They both believed me. They were always on my side. The right side.

But they also both knew when to put me in my place. They had their morals and they respected them.

"He's off. Something is definitely up. We've got to find something to prove it. I don't want to sit back and watch him do the wrong thing,” Ezra told me. I nodded at him in agreement and sighed "But what? What could we even do? He's good at hiding whatever he is hiding," I said with a huff. I knew Henry was hiding something. I just knew it.

I had a gut feeling and I trusted my gut. There were signs that Henry was up to something strange, but no hard proof.

"He'll slip up. Bad people always do," Ezra told me. I sighed but nodded. I knew Ezra was right. I had to wait for Henry to slip up. Whether he revealed a secret or said something strange. I had to wait. "There you go, darling. All better," Jenny said as she kissed the top of my head. I thanked her as she walked away from me. She walked into the kitchen and brought back a plate of food for me. I smiled at up her and thanked her again.

When I began to eat, there were numerous knocks on the front door before I heard it push open. I caught the scents of a pissed off Lucas and Leon. I even sniffed out Alfie's scent.

Were they all here?

I continued eating as they all piled into the kitchen. Alfie came up to me and when I thought he was going to hug me, he smacked me right across the back of the head.

"Hey! That hurt!" I hissed out as I rubbed my head. He huffed and shook his head at me.

"What were you thinking? Fighting Veronica? Henry is always going to side with that monstrosity!" Alfie hissed out at me. He walked around to the other side of the table as Jenny fetched him a coffee and placed it in front of him.

He thanked her and then huffed before he sipped from the hot drink. I looked to the others and smiled innocently at them.

"I'm mad about the fight, but I'm not mad that you won," Brayleigh shrugged at me. I grinned and nodded my thanks to her as I continued eating. They were all pissed, and I could feel it coming off their wolves like waterfalls. The whole room was seeping with angry energy.

"You need to lay low, Ali. We said this at Terialta with everyone else. We can't risk making things worse," Lila told me. Lucas came and sat beside me, his beast itching to be let out. He was red hot type of angry.

I heard the low growl in the back of his throat. I nudged him lightly, a reminder to keep his cool. "We've got some evidence that Henry is up to no good, and he’s going to keep it hidden for even longer if things like this are happening. It we all lay low, then he will slip up. He won't worry as much and he'll eventually come clean,” Leon explained. I stared at him intensely for a moment.

Leon was going to make a great Beta.

Liam was going to be Alpha one day. I didn't know if it would be the Alpha of Takiani, or if it would be a different pack. But I knew he was going to be a good one, and I also knew that Leon would make a good Beta by his side.

I knew that Lucas was strong, but Leon had a noticeable edge on him. I'm sure that Lucas knew it too. That's why he always tried so hard, to prove that just because he wasn't going to be Liam's Beta, that he was still an strong and awesome wolf.

I knew that Liam would always keep Lucas by his side anyway.

"But how long will that take? I don't know if I can take another million years waiting for him to come clean. It's itching at me," I said, eating some more of my breakfast.

"Maybe until Liam realises he's a dud,” Lila said, rolling her eyes. Liam was such a big factor in all of this. He had to figure it out soon. Before things got seriously messed up.

"Liam is as blind as a bat. He's not going to realise anything without something big happening or us telling him," Cass said. I nodded in agreement.

My mate was too oblivious to the fact that his Alpha was evil

"He'll figure it out eventually. I know he will," I said as I ate. Everyone was silent for a moment until I sighed out and rubbed my head when I felt my arm burn.

"That female doesn't give up, does she?" I hissed out. "I should've broken her damn arms.”

"We can go back and give it a round two," Lucas said from next to me. His chest rumbled and I rolled my eyes at him playfully. Although, my beast yipped at the idea of having another go at Veronica. It would be sweet.

"Enough of that. Your ass just barely got out of that without Henry taking a bite of it. Let's not provoke him to do anything more," Alfie scolded him and I. Lucas nudged my arm playfully and I shrugged.

Both my arms began to burn and I bit my lip as I pushed my food around on my plate.

"She's pushing the limits, Liam," I reached out to Liam and made sure he knew that I was getting irritated again.

"I know, sugar. I'm telling her off. I can assure you of that,” Liam replied, which made me feel a little better. I still wanted to see him though. I missed him already.

"Hurry up and come back," I said. I almost heard his chuckle.

"Working as fast as I can, sugar,” Liam called back as we ended the link. I pushed around the food on my plate nervously as my mind raced. I could feel that something was coming.

Something big.
