Chapter 45 - Ass Beating
When I woke the next morning, Liam was still sound asleep. His arms were wrapped tight around me, his face nuzzled into the crook of my neck. His legs were tangled in mine and it felt good. He never let me go during the night. We always slept in each other's arms. It was perfect.
I shifted a little and then I felt it. The stiffness of his pants.
I shot my eyes open and tried to look back. Liam stirred in his sleep and moved a little. I felt his body push a little more against mine and bit my lip.
He was hard against me and he was unaware. But I couldn't say that I hated it.
"Liam," I whispered his name. He stirred some more.
"Liam," I whispered louder this time. He groaned softly. Liam hated people waking him up. He was good at waking up early on his own, but otherwise, he sucked.
“Liam, I have to go to the bathroom," I lied. Liam sighed and kissed my neck gently before he released me. I jumped out of bed and rushed out the room, moving past the bathroom.
I made my way into the kitchen. It was empty as no one was awake yet. It was particularly early and I was awake earlier than usual.
I made myself a coffee and then slipped on Liam's jacket that he had left on the dining table before I headed outside to watch the sun rise.
I stood on the back porch holding my mug with two hands. It was freezing, but oddly I didn't care. The sun rose slowly and cast out some warmth over the whole land, including me. The sky swirled with different colours. It was the best.
I used to get up real early with my mother when I was little to watch the sun rise every morning. It was always so perfect. She'd make me a hot cocoa and we'd sit outside on the outdoor chairs together.
I missed her deeply. It had been so long without her yet it felt like she had only died yesterday. I knew it was because I hadn't gotten over what happened to her. I was hung up on it.
As I watched the sun cast over the woods in front of me, something in the back of my mind told me to go. Walk out into the woods.
I looked around me, looking for something strange. My belly twisted awkwardly and I felt like there was something bad about to happen. I wasn't going to sit back and let it happen.
It was my instinct.
I set my coffee mug down and then walked down the porch. I walked out across the snow and into the trees, disappearing quickly into the woods. The smell of the plants and water filled my nose. The woods were always wonderful in the mornings.
I made my way through the forest, weaving around the dense and wet trees. Everything was beginning to light up, but things were still dark as the thick trees covered the sunlights. The creatures of the forest were beginning to wake, the crickets chirping.
I walked for what felt like hours until I smelt it. Glancing past trunks and branches, I spotted several men, all of them skinny and dangerously scrawny. They had a child with them. But the child wasn't going willingly. The sticks around them broke as they walked, dragging the child along with them.
I sniffed the air to catch a scent of the child, but all I caught were the rogues.
The damn rogues
What were they doing with a child? Were they going to try and kill it? Kidnap it? I gulped and slowly treaded along behind them. They hadn't noticed me, that was how sick they were. Each of them were surely dying.
"Can we kill it? Kids piss me off!” One man growled. A snapped his teeth at the child, and I finally caught a glimpse of who it was.
Wesley?
I caught my growl in my throat. Wesley was being dragged around, a hand clamped hard over his mouth to muffle his cries. He was bawling his eyes out, sobbing hard. He squirmed and fought, trying to get away.
"No. You know what the boss wants. We ain't killing anyone, yet," another rogue snapped back. There were three of them in total, too much work for an eight year old to defend himself. I gulped and tugged off the jacket. I pulled off the hoodie and let it drop to the floor. I undressed quickly and then shifted.
I sprinted for the rogues and slammed into one of them. I knocked him to the ground and got my teeth around his neck before he could even try to fight back. I tore out his throat, leaving a pool of blood in the snow.
"Damnit. Get the kid out of here!" I heard a shout. I heard more cries from Wesley and when I turned my head to see, he was being dragged away by the second rogue, and the third was glaring at me. I growled and turned around.
He lunged at me. I snapped my teeth at him, trying to take him down. He dodged me and I felt something sharp sink it's way into my side. I yelped and felt it come out and then stab again. I yelped again and rolled. The man tumbled and I saw the dagger in his hands fly out of his reach.
I pounced on the man before he could get away or try to hurt me again. I slashed open his stomach and then bit into his flesh. I tore out a chunk and then jumped away as he screamed. He would die slowly and painfully.
I turned around and looked for where Wesley has gone. I breathed in hard and chased after the rogue carrying to poor child.
"Liam!" I shouted. I hoped he was awake. I needed him to be awake. I needed him to come and help.
Liam didn't respond. I shook my head as I caught sight of Wesley and the rogue. I ran faster and leaped over the top of them, landing right in front of the rogue.
"Liam! Wake up!"
The rogue growled at me and dropped Wesley. He shifted and Wesley sprinted for a nearby tree, where he climbed it and sat high in the branches. The kid was smart.
The rogue lunged at me. But I overpowered him. I took him down fast and went straight fo his neck. He dodged my teeth in the last second and I growled angrily.
How dare he think he could take one of the children and get away with it!
"Lila? Are you awake?" I called for another option. I heard her soft humming noise and figured she was just waking up.
The rogue clawed my side and tossed me away from him. I heard more growls and I saw more rogues begin to arrive. None of them noticed Wesley who was still up in the trees. I was more than thankful that he was safe. I'd feel terrible if something had happened to him.
I jumped on the back of the rogue yet again but didn't get far into his neck as one of his friends jumped on me and took me down. There were three of them again.
I got up fast and moved faster. I got to the rogue before he could recover and I tore out his throat. His body dropped, limp. I turned to the other rogues but not fast enough.
I tumbled across the snow, smacking hard into a nearby tree. I yelped.
"I'm awake. What's wrong?" Lila finally called back. I got up and looked to the two rogues before they could attack me again.
"Rogues! Behind the cabin!" I shouted to her as the rogues came at me again. They attacked at the same time and knocked me back into the tree.
I felt a small panic rise in my mind. But I couldn't focus on it as I felt teeth on my neck. I yelped at the pain as the rogue sank his teeth into my flesh, biting deep.
I clawed his throat. His body went limp and he released my neck from his mouth. His body fell and then the other rogue slammed into me.
"We're coming!” Lila called to me.
I swiped my paw at the rogue. I clawed him in the shoulder and then pushed forwards and bit into the skin that connected his shoulder and neck. He growled in pain as my teeth crushed the bone almost immediately.
"Sugar! Are you okay?"
Liam called to me but I didn't have time to answer. He would see me when he found me. He just had to be quick. I was bleeding badly.
I tore a chunk out of the rogues shoulder and tossed it away. I tasted his blood and couldn't wait to end his life.
I lunged at him. I knocked him back onto the snow and pinned him down. He wasn't going anywhere.
"Don't kill him!" I heard a shout. I looked up and saw the group of males running towards me. Hallie was amongst the group also.
My wolf was pissed. She wanted to kill the rogue and taste his blood on her teeth. But I stepped down as they approached. Nicolas grabbed the rogue aggressively and shoved him in the direction of some other wolves that I didn't recognise.
"Lock him up. Make sure he doesn't get away," Nicolas hissed out as Liam came up to me. He looked over me, his eyes darting frantically.
I turned my head back and looked up into the tree that Wesley that climbed up. He was making his way down and he jumped onto the ground and then sprinted to his parents who looked like they were in hysterics.
"Shift back,” Liam mumbled to me softly as he pulled off his hoodie. I did as he said and let him slip the hoodie over my head. The blood caused the hoodie to stick to me. I felt terrible.
Liam pulled me into a tight hug. He sighed deeply against my hair and kissed my head. I never wanted to leave him again.
"What happened, Alison?" I heard Nicolas’ voice from behind me. I pulled away from Liam's embrace and turned to face him.
"Well, I came out into the woods and saw some rogues dragging Wesley around. They were really sick, and didn't even notice that I was following. I shifted and took down two of them back that way, and then came after the one who had run off with Wesley. A few more showed up but I handled them on my own," I explained to him. Nicolas and Christian exchanged worried looks with each other before looking back to me.
They knew that our conversation from the other day was becoming more and more important. We had had another rogue attack. It was time to get off our hides and do something.
"Liam, get her to the doctor. We've got a rogue to question,” Nicolas said, giving Liam a respectful nod. Liam grabbed me and with a swift movement, picked me up and held me bridal style in his arms.
I didn't argue. I was freezing and I was barely wearing clothes. Liam moved quickly towards the way he had just come from, keeping me close to me. As we walked, a group of wolves that I assumed were trackers were heading past us.
Nicolas must have called them to track the scents.
"I'm so sorry I didn't come faster. It's my fault you got hurt,” Liam muttered to me as we got back to the pack. Everyone was awake, and running around. Most of them looked beyond stressed about what had happened. I guessed that news travelled fast.
"It's not your fault, Liam,” I mumbled back to him. My jaw hurt from the wounds in my neck and I felt tired from the fight. I had bled a fair amount and I was sure that it would make me tired for the next few days.
Ezra was going to kill me for coming back injured.
Liam's chest rumbled as we approached the doctor's hut. I glanced over Liam's shoulder to where Lila was running out the cabin in my direction.
I was glad that she hadn't come to see me. I didn't want her to get hurt trying to come and save my ass.
"Let me get you something more comfortable so you can get warm," Liam said as he laid me down on a bed. I nodded at him and winced at the pain in my body. The pain was bearable but it did hurt. "I'm so glad you're okay! I wasn't sure if they would get to you in time," Lila said as she rushed into the room. I smiled up at her and adjusted myself on the bed as a woman came in
"Hi sweetheart. How are you doing?" She asked me with a small smile. She sat next to my bed and began to organise the cotton pads to clean my wounds.
"I'm alright. It's already started healing,” I told her. She nodded at me and looked up as Liam ran back into the room. She nodded her head at him respectfully and he paid her no attention.
He handed me a pair of his sweatpants and I slipped them on gently. Lila grabbed his arm and tugged at it. He needed to get out the room and calm down. He was getting worked up and he was sure to snap soon.
"I'm not going," Liam said sternly. Lila tugged his arm again. I nodded my head towards the door. I knew he was just worried about me but being angry and worked up wouldn't help anyone.
"You can come back in once I'm done. Okay?" I told him. "Go outside and calm down."
Liam hesitated before he finally nodded and then left the room with Lila by his side. She shot me a sincere smile as the doctor got to work on cleaning my wounds for me.
