Chapter 19 - Getting To Know Them

The next morning I woke feeling good. My mind was clear and I was giddy about the day I had ahead of me. I was happy about the small talk that I had with Liam.

After we spoke, he ran back with me. He walked me to the door of my cabin and then winked at me before leaving. I headed inside and jumped into bed feeling like a little school girl.

What he said to me made me feel relieved. He wanted to help me. He was going to. He knew that I was scared and he was willing to help me with that. My wolf loved it.

After my run with Ezra, I found myself standing back at the boulder with Alfie again. He was in a foul mood and he had been snapping at me all morning. Something bad clearly happened and he was definitely bothered.

"Hurry up! I don't have all day," Alfie grunted as I pulled. I rolled my eyes at him. When he was in a better mood, I was going to give him a mouthful and make him apologise.

I continued pulling. I hadn't even made it to the line before Alfie jumped off. He muttered something I didn't hear and then walked away. I watched Alfie stalk all the way across the pack before he shifted at the trees and tore off into the forest, disappearing within seconds.

I gaped and looked around. What the hell?

I dropped the rope and glanced around, looking for someone I knew. I spotted Lila a while away, but she was training with Austin and I didn't want to interfere.

"Don't worry about him. He's just a grumpy old man," I heard from behind me. I spun around, coming face to face with one of Lila’s brothers. It was one of the twins, but I wasn't sure which one it was. They weren't identical twins, but they looked similar. It was the same with Liam. They all looked so similar.

I smiled at him anyway. "I think I just piss him off. I may or may not do it on purpose,” I said.

The male cracked a grin at me and motioned for me to follow him. I did. He lead me across the pack and then sat down on a log that looked out over where Lila was training. I cautiously sat next to him.

This male didn't pose a threat. I wasn't at all threatened by him. After all, he was supposed to be my brother now.

"I'm Leon, by the way. Liam's brother," Leon introduces himself to me. I smiled at him and nodded. He picked at his nails which were covered in dirt.

"Alison. Nice to meet you," I told him my name and smiled. He smiled back and turned to face me again.

"I like you. You're funny,” Leon told me without context. I raised my eyebrows at him questioningly. He smirked and motioned to Lila. "She's told us all about you, and plus, you ran away from Liam the other day and then made him sit outside your cabin all day... that was hilarious.”

I found myself laughing at Leon. He laughed with me and I shrugged at him. I felt better about what happened with Liam because of last night when we briefly spoke with each other. He seemed understanding.

"Liam is a good wolf. He'll take care of you," Leon told me. I nodded at him. I didn't doubt what he said, but I was still cautious.

I barely knew Liam. It made me nervous. I was supposed to be in a relationship with someone that I barely knew?

My wolf scolded me with a snap of her teeth. I knew what she was talking about. If I wanted to know Liam, I should go find him right now and try to get to know him.

"Hey!" I heard a shout from behind Leon and I. Before I could turn around, someone smashed right into Leon, sending him flying away from the log that he was sat on. Him and the other person tumbled on the dirt, and I laughed.

"Fuck off, you disgusting dog!" Leon shouted as he pushed his brother off him. The one that I assumed was Lucas chuckled and rolled away before sitting up. Leon rolled his eyes at him.

"Ooh, are we starting to investigate her already? Okay, sounds fun. I'm in," Lucas said, shifting closer to me. Leon sat himself back on the log again, dusting himself off as he shook his head.

"This is Lucas. The dud of the family," Leon told me, motioning to Lucas, who growled.

"Don't listen to him. He's a sour wolf,” Lucas told me quickly. I saluted him and he grinned at me. I couldn't help but smile either.

I already liked both these males. They were oddly calming to be around. They seemed goofy and fun to be around, but I was sure that they were serious at the right times.

Lucas turned around and looked at someone. I wasn't sure who he was looking out but he flipped them off and then looked back to me with a smirk.

"Your little boyfriend is jealous of us because you already like us more than you like him," Lucas grinned one of the biggest shit-eating grins I had ever seen. He was definitely cocky.

But it made me smile and I liked it.

Not the mention, the idea of Liam being my boyfriend was incredibly wonderful for me. I craved seeing him so badly, and his touch on my arms. But I knew that I had to take my time. I couldn't rush into anything right now.

"So here's an idea. In three days, there's going to be a big bear hunt. A lot of people are going. You should come along too,” Lucas abruptly said. Leon smiled at what his brother said.

My wolf rumbled at the thought of getting her teeth around the neck of a bear. My stomach growled, hungry. The mention of a kill that good made me want to dreamily sigh.

I'd never killed a bear before. It would be rewarding.

"Really?" I asked him. Leon nodded and motioned behind him into the trees.

"We head out that way and go far into the east. They have heaps of bear up that way," Leon explained to me. I nodded. "Plus, if you came, and killed yourself a big bear, you'd make a big statement before you joined the pack. No one messes with a strong wolf."

"Except for Anthony. He's a pain in my damn ass,” Lucas muttered under his breath. I almost sighed in relief. I was glad that I wasn't one of the only people who despised Anthony.

"He's a dick," I said quickly. Leon nodded and agreement and Lucas only smiled.

"I'll talk to Ezra about it. Thanks for the invite,” I said to the two brothers. They nodded their heads at me and Lucas stood up. He held his hand out to me.

He helped me up and then Leon held out his hand too. Lucas rolled his eyes and Leon groaned before pushing himself up. I studied the two males.

They were strong. They each had a body to die for and a face carved by God himself. They had muscles on every part of their bodies and their blood hummed a melody. They were intimidating, for sure, but I found myself feeling rather comfortable with them.

"So, little sister, you hungry?" Leon asked me as we began to walk. We walked in the opposite direction of my cabin. I'm assuming they were taking me to theirs.

"Always. I have quite the appetite,” I told them as my belly rumbled. They both chuckled at me as we passed by Lila who was just finishing up with her training. She trotted over to us and greeted me with a wide grin.

"Where are you taking my friend?" Lila asked her two brothers. Lucas swung an arm around her shoulders as he motioned towards a cabin. It was the same as mine, only bigger.

"We're going to eat and then talk shit about our brother,” Lucas said, making both Lila and Leon laugh. We entered their cabin and they lead me straight into the kitchen.

The cabin smelled strongly of Liam. His scent filled my nose and I was sure that my nostrils were flared. I probably looked like an idiot, sniffing at the air like some sort of moron.

Lila and I sat down at the bar stools as Lucas and Leon argued in the kitchen about what to put on the sandwiches that they were going to make. Lila and I exchanged looks with each other before she cleared her throat.

"I heard that you and Liam spoke last night,” she told me. I nodded quickly, my cheeks feeling hot. Liam must have told her.

"Yeah. I couldn't sleep and decided to go for a run. He was still sitting outside when I opened the door. So he tagged along with me, I guess,” I explained to her. She awed at me and reached out to touch my arm. Her skin was warm and comforting.

"Mhm, makes sense as to why he came back in such a good mood. You two make out or something?" Lucas teased as he placed slices of bread on the counter. I widened my eyes at him and shook my head quickly. I felt my cheeks go hot again.

Damnit.

Everyone laughed and I looked down to try and hide the blush on my cheeks.

For the rest of the afternoon, we all sat around together and ate sandwiches and snacked on biscuits. We were later joined by Brayleigh and Kade who brought along a large bottle of tequila.

I enjoyed the company of these wolves. They were good for me, good for my wolf. Lila was so bright full and cheery that I smiled every time she was around. It felt almost impossible to be any other emotion besides happy when she was around.

Brayleigh was just plain wonderful. She had a subtle way of being funny just enough to make me cry with laughter. She wasn't all that talkative, but when she was comfortable, she'd talk forever.

Kade was cocky. But he was cocky to a point where he knew when it was time to tone down his ego. It made me laugh when he said stupid things that made him sound like a douche bag.

Lucas was very similar to Kade. They bonded well with each other. Their cocky attitudes and awesome sense of humour had everyone in the cabin crying with laughter. Especially me. I think I might have had too much tequila.

Leon was amazing too. He had a wide grin that seemed contagious. He was funny, but he tried to be subtle about it. He always kept a straight face while telling most of his jokes and that made it even funnier. He always liked so happy when people laughed at the things he said.

"So what's wrong with your Dad? He ditched me this morning,” I asked Kade as I looked to him. Kade rolled his eyes and sighed.

"Him and Mum got into an argument before training this morning. He was wrong, and she was right, as usual. He probably stormed off to go and apologise for being a douche," Kade replied. I nodded slowly and sipped again on my drink. I reached for the tequila bottle again but Leon snatched it away.

"I think you've had enough. You've had like half the bottle!" Leon told me. I scoffed and rolled my eyes at his exaggeration but didn't argue with him. I wasn't drunk, but I definitely wasn't sober.

I heard the front door open and felt my hair stand up on the back of my neck. I smelt him and felt the energy and heat coming off him before he even walked into the room. His scent was sweet and his anger choked me. I felt intimidated, but I pushed the feelings back.

"Here we go again," Lucas muttered. We all turned our attention as Liam stormed into the room. He eyed the tequila in Leon's hand and marched over. He snatched the bottle from his brother's hands and drank greedily from it.

"Well, clearly someone is not having a good day," I said out loud. Everyone snickered at my comment and I noticed the corners of my mate's lips tug upwards into a smirk.

My wolf huffed. She really liked this male already.

"Tell us all about it," Lila said to her older brother. She leaned forwards.

"He's probably just pissed that you haven't given him your neck yet," Brayleigh snickered to me. I turned to her and kicked her leg. She just smirked and said nothing as we turned back to Liam.

"It's Veronica. She's being difficult again and I'm sick of it,” Liam muttered lowly as he took another sip from the bottle. I arched my eyebrows slightly as everyone in the room stilled.

What? Who was Veronica? The name rang a bell

"Veronica is one of Liam's potential bond mates... she's been obsessed with him ever since I can remember,” Lila told me through a private link that sent chills up my spine and set jealousy hard in my gut.
