The Transfer

Chapter 12 - Ezra’s Mate

"When does Ezra get back? I miss his vampire butt,” Lila sighed as we sat on my couch. I looked at the time on the clock that was positioned on the wall and sighed.

He had said it wouldn't be until later in the night. I hoped he would be back soon. He had only been gone a day and I already missed him dearly. He said he was bringing his mate back too, and I was eager to meet her.

Ezra hadn't spoken of her much whilst he was home. I only heard a few things about her every now and then. I was excited to meet her because if she was good enough for Ezra, then she was good enough for me.

"He said tonight but I'm sure it won't be until later. You don’t have to wait up with me," I told Lila. She shook her head at me and kicked her legs up on my lap.

She sighed and got comfortable on the couch. "No way am I leaving! I love Jenny. She's the best."

I nodded at her as I realised that Ezra's mate's name was Jenny. It was a nice name, cute and short. I liked it.

"She's a better cook than Ezra too. You'll get fat with her food,” Lila said with a grin. I felt my beast drool and couldn't help but laugh. I had been eating my own made food for two nights and it sucked.

I had to admit to myself that Ezra was in fact a better cook than I was. He had raw talent. But I was way too cocky to admit to him that he was better at cooking than I was.

Lila and I sat on the couch watching movies for hours. She had fallen asleep halfway through the first movie. I was dozing off when I heard the door knob to the front door jiggling. I shot up hurriedly and rubbed my eyes.

I glanced over at Lila. She was breathing softly, clutching the pillow under her head. She was so peaceful and I smiled. My wolf puffed and felt good to know that she was safe.

I carefully got up and made sure not to wake her. She stirred slightly in her sleep. I pulled the blanket over her and kissed her forehead before walking out the room

In the kitchen stood Ezra and his mate, Jenny. I grinned at the two of them when they turned to me. "Hi there, princess. Miss me?" Ezra greeted me with a smile. I nodded at him as he hugged me. He pulled away and then motioned to Jenny.

Jenny was gorgeous. Beautiful.

"This is my mate, Jenny. And Jenny, this is Alison," Ezra introduced us quickly. I smiled at her and she came forwards. She hugged me tightly, and my beast purred some more. She liked this female already.

"So you're the girl that Ez never stops talking about. You feel so strong," Jenny said with a smile as she pulled away. I smiled and nodded at her and Ezra scoffed.

"I don't talk about her all the time," Ezra retorted, even though he looked guilty. Jenny just rolled her eyes at him and I giggled softly.

"Whatever you say, Ez," Jenny said, winking at me. I giggled some more and Ezra role his eyes.

"Is Lila asleep?" He asked me, sniffing the air. I nodded at him and motioned back to the living room.

"She passed out after the first movie. Alfie worked us hard today," I told him. Jenny chuckled a little. "That man loves tiring out children,” Jenny said. I nodded at her in agreement. Alfie worked everyone hard. It was exhausting and difficult but it made us stronger and it made us better. He just wanted the best of us. Everyone knew that.

"Why don't you run off to bed, princess? You look tired and it's late. You have an early morning tomorrow," Ezra suggested to me. I yawned and nodded at him. I turned to Jenny and waved at her. She smiled and waved back before I headed down the hallway and to my bedroom.

11!

The next morning when I woke, it was pouring hard with rain. It pelted down on the tin roof, loud and hard. I loved it and I sat up for at least half an hour just watching it rain outside.

I figured that I wouldn't be going on a run during the day or doing training. I didn't see anyone outside like I normally did and assumed it was all cancelled for the day. I was glad, because it meant I was going to spend some time with Jenny.

I wanted to get to know her. I only had a week left in Takiani and I really wanted to become friends with her before I left. I knew that I was always welcomed back in Takiani and I wanted to make sure that if I ever came back, I'd have plenty of friends to see.

I trotted out my room after pulling on a black hoodie and some grey sweatpants. I pulled my hair up into a bun and rubbed my eyes.

I smelt chocolate and bacon from the kitchen. I wanted to drool but clamped my mouth shut so I wouldn't. When I walked into the kitchen, I grinned.

Brayleigh, Kade, Lila, Jenny and Ezra were sat at the dining room table. They were sipping on hot chocolates with marshmallows. Ezra jumped up from the table, kissing my forehead as he walked past me and into the kitchen to continue cooking.

"Morning, sweetheart. Did you sleep well?" Jenny greeted as I took Ezra's seat and sat beside her. I nodded and she shoved a mug of hot chocolate to me. There were several marshmallows floating up the top and I grinned some more. I sipped on my drink and moaned softly.

"I hope this rain doesn't last long,” Kade sighed suddenly. I frowned at him.

"I love the rain. I wish it would rain more often," I said honestly, glancing outside. The ground was saturated and there were giant puddles everywhere.

"Try to train in mud. The ground is always wet for days after it rains here. There's too much mud and it sucks to train in the winter,” Kade said, and my wolf only yipped excitedly. We loved dirt and mud. "I'm not afraid to get my hands a little dirty, Kade," I told him as I drank. He poked his tongue at me and playfully rolled his eyes.

"We stop training when the snow starts. It's too hard to train when it's that cold, and our wolves don't like the snow at all,” Lila said, shuddering at the thought of snow. I only grew more excited. I loved playing around in the snow.

It was my favourite time of year undoubtedly.

"I love everything about winter. It's magical," I sighed dreamily. I sipped on my drink again as Ezra began putting down plates in front of us all

There was one giant plate that was stacked with bacon. There were two smaller plates with plenty of eggs and then hash browns, breakfast sausages, chopped and fried onion, as well as two jugs of orange juice.

My chest rumbled in satisfaction. I was starving.

We all ate together hungrily. Lila mostly told Jenny about all the things she had missed out on while we she was gone. My favourite part was when Lila started talking about my first day in Takiani. "Henry introduced her to Anthony when she first arrived. Bray and I were watching from my cabin and we started crying with laughter when Anthony shook her hand. He kissed her knuckles and Ali snapped her teeth at him!" Lila said, already laughing. Brayleigh was laughing too.

"He looked like he was about to shit himself! It was so funny! You should've been there, Jenny," Lila said, her face lighting up. She was laughing so hard that she had to take a moment to catch her breath.

I rolled my eyes playfully at her. My beast swirled with a cocky attitude at the thought of that day. We remembered doing it and we would do it all over again.

Jenny rolled her eyes and sighed. "Arrogant ass males. He's the worst one out of all of them.”

I nodded in agreement and Lila groaned. "How do you think I feel? I have to kiss his ass, as well as his sister's and his mother's!" Lila huffed in annoyance. Brayleigh and I laughed at this and Ezra nudged me.

I looked to him whilst Lila complained about her job to everyone else. I had already heard her complain about it, so I don't think I'll be missing anything important.

"Have you thought anymore about returning to Terialta or staying here?" He asked me softly. No one else was paying attention but I didn't really feel bothered by anyone listening anyway.

I sighed and nodded at him. I knew what I had to do, and I hated it.

"I have to go back. When my brother takes over as Alpha, his Beta won't have a female. I'll have to fill the position,” I replied back. Ezra furrowed his eyebrows at me and sighed. He looked away for a moment and then back to me.

"Do you even want to go back?" He asked me. I gritted my teeth and clenched my jaw.

I didn't want to go back. I never wanted to return to Terialta ever again. I didn't want to face my father's Beta, I didn't want to face my father. I didn't even want to see the pack.

Everyone there had their heads shoved so far up their ass that it made me groan. I didn't want to go somewhere that I wasn't happy. Terialta wasn't making me happy.

But I didn't know if I wanted to stay in Takiani either.

I had thought about going up to the falls to possibly join my family's pack. My uncle was the Alpha there and I knew that he would willingly accept me into the pack.

"I don't think so... it doesn't make me happy to be there anymore. It hasn't made me happy for a long time now," I told him honestly. Ezra's look softened and I saw the light in his eyes. He thought I was staying.

"Will you stay then?" He asked me hopefully. I shrugged at him and bit my bottom lip. I was so unsure and I had no idea what to do.

I figured that my brothers might know, but I almost definitely knew that they would want me to come home. Maybe Beckett was the wisest to talk to. He would probably understand the most.

"I don't know yet. I think I'll speak with Beckett about. He would know,” I told him. Ezra nodded at me and we continued eating.

There was a loud knock on the door suddenly and I frowned. Ezra stiffened slightly and kept eating. "It's for you. Henry is here," Ezra said.

I frowned, but stood up anyway. I left the table and headed towards the door quickly. I felt Henry's buzz when I opened the door. I smiled at him. He was slightly damp from the rain but the cover from the porch was keeping him dry.

"Come inside!" I told him cheerily. Henry shook his head at me and I didn't push further. He shoved his clenched fists into his pockets and looked at me closely. He then grunted.

"Alison, I've been going around to the transfers that are here asking about what will happen at the end of this week. There are two so far who have said that they wanted to stay, and the rest will be returning to Terialta. I came to ask what you would be doing. It just so I can organise the ceremony of welcoming you to the pack in advance,” Henry said quickly. He spoke loudly so I could hear him over the rain and I took notice of how he didn't even say hello.

My wolf felt on edge again. There was something about Henry that made us twitch. Maybe it was the fact that I knew about how he took over the throne from Liam, Lila's brother.

I gulped nervously and shoved my own hands into my pockets. I didn't want to say that I didn't know, but I truly didn't.

"Honestly, I'm not quite sure yet, Alpha. I would need to speak to someone about it first. I'm still really undecided,” I told him honestly. He stiffened and tensed noticeably. It made me feel a little odd.

Why was he tensing? Was he cold? In pain?

"I'm sorry. I will make sure I let you know as soon as I figure it out. I hope it doesn't inconvenience you," I added quickly. He avoided my eyes and glanced past me.

"It's fine, Grey. Just... let me know when you find out,” Henry said firmly before turning around. He walked out into the rain again and walked fast back to the pack house. I frowned and watched him walk but then shut the door.

"He's a dick. I can't stand him. He could at least be polite enough to look you in the eye when he spoke to you," I heard from behind me. I turned around and saw Jenny. She looked angry.

But I smiled at her and shrugged. I didn't care that Henry was rude or disrespectful. He seemed off every time we spoke and I was used to it by this point.

"Maybe I'm just that intimidating, huh?" I joked with her. Jenny broke out into a smile and then nodded.

"You're a strong wolf, darling. Everyone can feel it,” Jenny and before she lead me back to the table where everyone finished their breakfast.
