Chapter 73
Chapter 73 Someone Who Can Replace Her
The change in tone of the company’s CEO, Liam Luther, was palpable to everyone present. It was as if his mere presence compelled those who had been speaking moments ago to lower their heads and divert their gaze toward their own feet. While it made for a rather dramatic spectacle during the meeting, nobody wanted to be caught in the crossfire themselves.
In fact, the others were right in their assumptions–Liam was indeed unhappy. It wasn’t due to his employees holding differing opinions. but rather Porter’s mention of Gwyneth during the meeting.
Luther Corporation’s success and prominence in the business world owed much to Liam himself. He always valued the opinions of his company’s employees, even if it came from a janitor. But now, Porter had brought his own personal emotions to the meeting, obstructing the company’s interests, and that had changed everything.
Porter was taken aback by Liam’s sudden shift in demeanor. His own heart trembled in response, but he had been engaged in a silent battle with Liam for quite some time, and he could easily overcome this sense of panic. He cleared his throat before speaking, a mocking expression in his eyes. “Is it appropriate to bring personal affairs into the company, as you yourself mentioned earlier?”
Liam surveyed the silent room, taking in Porter’s contemptuous smile with his piercing gaze. After a brief moment of silence, he finally spoke, his voice devoid of any emotion, as if it emanated from another realm. “Do you truly understand the implications of your words? And if you do, why involve someone else in this matter?”
Elizabeth, seated beside him, felt her heart tighten upon hearing Liam’s words. She inwardly cursed, ‘All this talk, and he’s still defending Gwyneth!”
Liam continued, his voice still devoid of emotion, “From the company’s standpoint, what’s the issue with our collaboration with the CEO of AMC and Glen Corporation?”
Up until this point, Porter hadn’t delved into Gwyneth’s identity or the forces supporting her. All he knew was that the person Liam intended to collaborate with was Liam’s wife. Deciding whether to confront or take a step back in response to Liam’s question seemed unwise.
Liam carried on, “Of course, if you believe I’ve acted too hastily in this matter, feel free to provide an alternative.”
Porter didn’t grasp Liam’s remark. He looked up at Liam, blinking his eyes in confusion.
Observing Porter’s puzzled expression, Liam smiled. His lips curled slightly, mirroring the smirk Porter had made earlier. “What I mean is, find me a new collaborator who can replace her within the next few days.”
Even if Porter utilized all his connections in the coming days, finding a potential collaborator who could match Gwyneth’s status and the influence she wielded would be a daunting task. After racking his brain, he realized there simply was no one to choose from. He awkwardly touched his nose, feeling a tinge of embarrassment as he sat down.
Watching Porter’s reaction, Liam’s gaze gradually softened, although his commanding presence remained. In fact, it was far too easy to address Porter’s attempt to cast a spotlight on Gwyneth. No matter how dissatisfied some may have been, the fact remained that Gwyneth’s dual role as CEO of two corporations made her the perfect collaborator for Luther Corporation. What was there to question?
“Now that it appears Porter has no further concerns, what about the rest of you?” Liam’s gaze swept across the room once again, finally settling on the heads of other attendees.
With the most audacious speaker already silenced, the remaining attendees couldn’t help but think that if they still clung to the idea of opposing the investment model Liam had proposed, they must have truly lost their minds.
Meanwhile, Elizabeth, who was busy recording the meeting minutes, found herself caught in a whirlwind of emotions. On one hand, she was captivated by Liam’s remarkable abilities and commanding presence. Her excitement soared, and she yearned to be enveloped in his comforting embrace. However, on the other hand, from the very beginning of the meeting until now, Liam had consistently shown his unwavering support for Gwyneth.
Elizabeth wasn’t particularly concerned about the financial viability of the project; her primary worry lay in Liam’s unwavering defense of Gwyneth. What troubled her even more was Liam’s overt backing of Gwyneth during the corporate meeting, leaving no room for doubt.
Her fingers clutched the pen tightly, and she subtly lowered her head, determined not to let anyone catch a glimpse of her inner turmoil. She couldn’t afford for Liam to detect the turmoil raging within her, as her eyes would surely betray her true emotions.
Gwyneth’s presence posed an ongoing threat to Elizabeth like an unrelenting feeling of unease that continued to grow. Even though the
online records of that fire had been deleted, her feeling of unease remained unabated.
‘Does this mean that regardless of whether Gwyneth was the girl who saved Liam all those years ago, he would still fall for her?” The thought raced through Elizabeth’s mind, and in a sudden surge of emotions, she exerted too much pressure on her pen, causing it to slip from her grasp and clatter to the floor. Her heart raced, and she swiftly raised her head, relieved to find that Liam hadn’t noticed her
distress.
As Elizabeth bent down to retrieve the fallen pen, she made a resolute decision deep within her heart.
