Chapter 68
Chapter 68 An Invitation to Join Her
When Wanda heard Gwyneth’s words, she stood frozen for a moment, completely stunned. By the time she snapped out of it, Gwyneth had already stepped into the elevator, still smiling and waving at her. Wanda thought to herself, ‘My new boss is really cool.”
Despite being a newcomer at Glen Corporation, Wanda had already overcome most of her fears about the corporate world during her schooling. She tightly held onto the files in her hand, and her heart raced a few times before she dashed loward Gwyneth.
In fact, Gwyneth truly meant what she had said. Over the past few days, while dealing with the exhausting demands of her role, she had to be cautious around people working for Gaspard in Glen Corporation. Gwyneth felt mentally and physically drained. After arranging a ride
for Wanda, she drove back to the Luther residence.
It was still early, and the mansion was quiet. Obviously, Liam wasn’t home. Gwyneth had left for two days without informing Liam in advance. Her sudden return made her feel a bit uneasy, but Gwyneth attributed this feeling to habit rather than any romantic sentiments.
After exchanging pleasantries with the household staff, Gwyneth placed her suitcase in the downstairs foyer and went directly to her bedroom. She quickly drifted into a deep sleep, and when she opened her eyes again, darkness had enveloped the sky outside.
Gwyneth had battled sleep issues for many years, but since moving into the Luther residence, her sleep had somewhat improved. She credited the high–quality furniture that Liam had invested in.
Rising from bed, Gwyneth took a refreshing shower and emerged from her room, making her way straight to the kitchen.
About half an hour later, the mansion’s front door swung open, revealing a slightly weary Liam. Gwyneth’s absence over the past few days had made him miss her more than he anticipated. However, knowing she was preoccupied with the Glacier Lake project, he refrained from disturbing her. As he stepped inside the house and laid eyes on the suitcase resting in the living room, his spirits soared. The mere presence of the suitcase led him to believe that Gwyneth had indeed returned.
The tantalizing aroma wafting from the kitchen confirmed Liam’s assumption. Without even bothering to remove his suit jacket, he made a direct path to the culinary haven. Just as he had expected, he found Gwyneth adorned in an apron, deftly maneuvering through her culinary creations.
“Already back?” Liam’s question sounded declarative.
Upon hearing this, Gwyneth couldn’t help but pause briefly. In that moment, an indescribable emotion washed over both of them. They resembled an old married couple, exchanging their first greetings after being apart for a few days. Liam’s words may have appeared ordinary, but they held a deep longing and joy.
With her back turned to Liam, Gwyneth’s eyes flickered with emotions before she turned off the stove. “Yeah, I’m back,” she responded softly, hiding some indescribable sentiments.
At the dining table, Gwyneth gazed at the assortment of dishes before her, feeling a deep sense of contentment. Today, she had prepared a feast to indulge and reward herself, recognizing the demanding nature of her project commitments and the masks she had to wear. As she settled into her seat, ready to pick up her utensils, she noticed Liam sitting beside her, arms crossed, his eyes brimming with anticipation, yet he remained silent.
A chuckle escaped Gwyneth’s lips. “What’s the matter? Would you like an invitation to join me?”
In response, Liam erupted into laughter. Without a moment’s hesitation, he swiftly grabbed his cutlery to partake in the feast together.
“Oh, Mr. Luther, after my two days of investigation at Glacier Lake, I have a general idea.” Gwyneth murmured to Liam while savoring her soup.
In Liam’s mind, he considered that only Gwyneth would have the audacity to speak to him so informally.
“Well, is the actual situation better than it seems?” Liam also spoke between bites, to be honest. After all, his taste buds only truly came alive when savoring Gwyneth’s cooking, and it was a rare treat to enjoy a meal prepared by her.
“It’s truly breathtaking and worth it. No wonder it has garnered such importance from the authorities.” As Gwyneth reminisced about the scenery at Glacier Lake, a tinge of nostalgia glimmered in her eyes.
If it weren’t for the responsibilities she carried, she wouldn’t have lived in this bustling city. She often fantasized about living in a tranquil sanctuary, where she could find genuine contentment.
“It seems like you truly love it.” Liam observed the gleam in Gwyneth’s eyes and felt something stir within him.
Snapping back to reality, Gwyneth confidently replied to Liam, “Yes, that’s why I’m considering bidding for the tourism development project there.” She then resumed enjoying her meal.
Meanwhile, Liam fell into a brief silence. After they finished eating, he summoned Larry to the study. “Cancel the bidding proposal that the marketing and planning departments have been working on in the past few days.”
Liam acknowledged that his decision was somewhat impulsive, but when he thought about the longing expression on Gwyneth’s lace just moments ago, he didn’t want to disrupt her plans.
Larry wasn’t particularly surprised to hear this. After all, he had overheard Liam and Gwyneth’s conversation during dinner. He nodded and proceeded to make the necessary arrangements, mentally giving a thumbs–up to Gwyneth.
