Chapter 55
Chapter 55 A Bunch of Opportunistic Fence–Sitters
“Absolutely, no problem at all,” Alan hurriedly nodded and mustered a forced smile, feeling intimidated by Gwyneth’s commanding presence. Despite his reservations, he knew he had to persevere and handle the matter diligently.
Once the onboarding procedures for Jonathan were completed, Gwyneth accompanied him out of the HR department.
“It’s been a while since we last saw each other, and I almost forgot how efficient you are in the workplace,” Jonathan teased.
Gwyneth chuckled softly in response to Jonathan’s jest and replied, “If I were even slightly weaker, these leeches would have devoured
me long ago.”
Jonathan was well aware of the challenges Gwyneth had faced. Hearing her speak about it with a lighthearted tone now, he felt a mix of sadness and relief. “Be prepared, there are still plenty of hurdles ahead,” he cautioned.
At that moment, they arrived at the entrance to the CEO’s office. Gwyneth handed Jonathan the documents she had been carrying, and their brief exchange of glances conveyed the gravity and magnitude of their responsibilities.
As Gwyneth had anticipated, the news of her recruiting someone and appointing him as the company’s marketing director spread rapidly throughout the entire organization.
Even the regular employees were taken aback upon hearing the news, let alone the shareholders of Glen Corporation. On the very same day, these individuals made their way directly to the company, gathering in a line in front of Gwyneth’s office, each one brimming with
anger.
Gwyneth fought to suppress her laughter, holding it back for an extended period. She remarked, “All of you are long–standing members of Glen Corporation. I wonder what brings you all here.”
“Kid, you don’t know why we are here? Don’t act dumb!” one of them spoke, and Gwyneth narrowed her eyes at the mention of that title.
Beneath the desk, Gwyneth’s hands clenched into tight fists, but she managed to maintain a courteous smile. “It appears quite evident that you gentlemen possess a certain level of experience. However, despite being in the CEO’s office, it seems you’ve forgotten how to address me properly,” she remarked. Her eyes shimmered with an icy glint as she spoke, catching the individual who had spoken off- guard and causing him to quickly avert his gaze.
Another individual, feigning righteousness, spoke up, saying, “Ms. Glen, since we are like a family within the company, let’s not engage in
evasive discussions.”
Gwyneth let out a light chuckle but remained silent, patiently awaiting their further remarks.
“Everyone in the company understands the significance of the marketing director role. How can you casually appoint someone to such a
position?”
“It is precisely because of the significance of this position that I intend to bestow the responsibility upon someone who is deserving of trust. What’s wrong with that?” Gwyneth replied.
Realizing that these shareholders were playing games with her, Gwyneth decided to engage in the charade. However, despite the ongoing exchange, none of them succeeded in presenting a compelling argument.
A board member asserted, “Regardless of anything else, you have just assumed the position of CEO, and you cannot behave so recklessly!
“I
“I don’t understand what you mean by that,” Gwyneth responded, contemplating internally, ‘They realize that being gentle won’t suffice, so they’re resorting to aggression. This tired old tactic is truly uninteresting.‘
“Very well, let’s be clear about it then!” One of the board members forcefully slammed his hand on the table, causing a resounding bang to
reverberate throughout the spacious office.
Observing the situation, Gwyneth narrowed her eyes, and the smile on her lips gradually diminished.
“Ms. Glen, if you persist in pursuing such a rash course of action, the board of directors will collectively express their dissent!” one of them proclaimed.
“Oh? Is that so?” Gwyneth’s cold gaze swept across the room, confirming that these individuals shared the same mindset. Satisfied with their unity, she nodded approvingly. She then took out a stack of documents from a drawer and slammed them onto the desk. “Before you guys decide to do that, I suggest you take a look at this information.”
The directors exchanged glances, their confusion evident. As they received and swiftly scanned through the documents, a wave of pallor washed over their faces. These papers contained undeniable evidence of Gaspard’s illicit sale of the company’s confidential information.
One of them exclaimed, “How is this possible! How could it be like this!”
Another person said, “Ms. Glen, we were completely unaware of this matter. This is…”
In a mere instant, with the weight of just a single document, these shareholders swiftly shifted their positions and began to align
themselves with Gwyneth. “Ms. Glen, we never anticipated your exceptional insight. You’ve uncovered such a significant issue within
such a short timeframe!”
Gwyneth watched these individuals express their allegiance to her and conveniently avoid the topic of Gaspard. In her mind, she let out a cold chuckle, ‘What a bunch of opportunistic fence–sitters.‘ However, she maintained a visage of sincere gratitude and emotion on her
face.
She stood up, appearing that she was feeling moved, almost as if she was about to hold her heart and burst into tears. “Thank you for
believing in me. I also understand the difficulties each of you has faced, so thank you for your understanding.”
“Ms. Glen, there’s no need for such words.”
Seeing this, these people couldn’t help but smirk inwardly. They maintained their elderly demeanor and waved their hands, as if to say, ‘It’s
all in the past, let’s not dwell on it.‘
