Chapter 44
Chapter 44 Entrusting the Company to Capable Hands
Gwyneth’s statement left all the shareholders of Glen Corporation stunned. They suddenly realized that the young lady before them was completely different from their previous impression. Their gazes then turned toward Gaspard, who was sitting on the side. The expression. on his face was more than just displeasure–it was downright unpleasant.
“Due to an urgent matter within the company, I allowed this shareholder meeting to take place today. I won’t go into further detail about who called for the meeting.” Gwyneth stated, her smile gradually fading. Her gaze swept across the laces of the shareholders, leaving a
palpable tension in the room.
She went on. “However, I want to remind everyone that I am the current CEO of Glen Corporation, and as such, I possess the exclusive
authority to convene a shareholder meeting.” Gwyneth concluded her statement, locking her eyes onto Elliott’s face. When she noticed Elliott meekly lowering his head, a smile reappeared on her lips.
Seeing this, Wesley quickly fetched a chair, and Gwyneth gracefully took a seat.
“Alright, let’s commence the meeting.” she stated calmly, yet her words seemed to heighten the tension in the room. Everyone held their breath, feeling unease.
“Ms. Glen, ahem…” one of the directors spoke up, clearly not used to addressing Gwyneth by her last name.
Gwyneth understood the director’s hesitation and responded with a subtle smile, signaling that it was not an issue.
The director proceeded, “You must be aware of the reason we urgently convened this shareholder meeting. The company’s current state is quite dire.” As he spoke, he motioned for his assistant to display real–time data of Glen Corporation on the projection screen. Upon seeing the figures, everyone involuntarily gasped in shock.
“Mr. Hale, it appears that you have been closely monitoring the company’s progress,” Gwyneth smiled at Holden Hale, her expression softening. She vaguely recalled him from their previous encounters.
Holden had been one of the earliest members of Glen Corporation, essentially a colleague who had worked alongside Gwyneth’s mother. In her early years, Gwyneth remembered her mother frequently consulting with Holden. Now, many years had passed, Gwyneth had grown into adulthood, and Holden before her had grayed at the temples. A mix of bittersweet emotions welled up inside her, intermingled with a comforting familiarity. ‘If Mom knew that her former trusted partner had remained loyal all these years, would she find solace?”
Gwyneth responded, “Mr. Hale, please rest assured. Although I may not have been visibly present in Glen Corporation, I am well–informed
about the company’s situation.”
When Holden heard her, a sense of relief appeared in his eyes. He nodded in response, choosing not to say anything further, Gwyneth could sense the confidence he had in her.
Gwyneth cleared her throat, preparing to rise from her seat and address the directors regarding the proposed solutions and the current state of Glen Corporation. However, just as she was about to proceed, Gaspard, who had maintained silence throughout, suddenly
interjected.
“Gwyneth, hold on…”
Gwyneth froze at his words. She then settled back into her chair, idly toying with the pen on the table. “Mr. Glen, it would be advisable to consider your choice of address before speaking.”
Being publicly humiliated by his own daughter in front of such a large audience, Gaspard seethed with anger. However, he found himself
without a suitable course of action in the present moment, so he reluctantly adjusted the way he addressed her. “Ms. Glen.”
Gwyneth raised an eyebrow slightly, indicating that he could continue speaking.
“Glen Corporation has been free from any major issues in recent years, and yet, as soon as you assumed the position, this happened,” Gaspard remarked.
Gwyneth had expected such words from him, so she remained composed and unaffected.
*Setting aside personal relationships, it is vital to acknowledge that the company’s future affects the livelihoods of many,” Gaspard added.
His statement almost caused Gwyneth to burst into laughter. She couldn’t help but think, ‘My father is quite something. He’s attempting to shift the blame onto me and even bringing up our so–called parent–child relationship?”
However, Gaspard remained oblivious to Gwyneth’s internal mockery. As he spoke, he cast a fleeting glance at a few individuals in the
room. “Ultimately, the members of our board of directors still hold the hope of entrusting the company to capable hands.”
“Oh? The board of directors? Are you suggesting that there are others who share your viewpoint?” Gwyneth’s gaze scanned the room, and indeed, she observed a few individuals nodding. Some shareholders appeared reluctant to speak up, avoiding direct eye contact with
Gwyneth and evading her gaze.
Gwyneth chuckled softly and exchanged a glance with Wesley. Taking the cue, Wesley promptly settled into a seat behind her, prepared with pen and paper to jot down the names of those individuals.
Meanwhile, at Luther Corporation, Liam sat in his office, a frown forming on his face as he scrutinized the display of Glen Corporation’s
stock performance on his computer screen.
Liam had never paid much attention to stock situations or the fate of other corporations. The reason he was now specifically delving into
the affairs of Glen Corporation was because of Gwyneth. Driven by some inexplicable feelings, he found that dining together and talking on
the phone with her were no longer enough. He longed for a deeper level of connection, and with Glen Corporation, which Gwyneth had
recently acquired, facing issues, he felt that he might be able to offer assistance in some way.
“Mr. Luther, Glen Corporation’s stock has been tumbling lately, as if something fishy is going on,” his PA standing beside him remarked,
also furrowing his brows. “I wonder if Ms. Glen can handle it.”
