Chapter 223
Chapter 223
Dylan was dressed in a beige trench coat, his short hair neat and clean, and a pair of silver-rimmed glasses rested. on the bridge of his nose. Overall, he looked elegant and refined.
He quickly walked over. "Have you been waiting long?"
Noelle sent off her message and replied, "Not really. I just got here."
"Alright. Let's go." Dylan nodded, pulling his suitcase with one hand while slightly bending the other arm. Understanding his gesture, Noelle quickly put away her phone and took his arm.
"Shall we grab dinner first?" Dylan asked.
Noelle nodded. "Sure."
"Your voice doesn't sound quite right," he remarked.
Noelle coughed lightly. "Caught a cold a while back, but I'm much better now. Just a bit of a cough left." "I'll get you some cough syrup later."
"Okay."
At Amity Group's subsidiary company in Vinton, Hendrix was sitting in front of his desk with a poker face, staring at the photo he just received on his phone.
It was a photo of a couple, looking like a good match.
Hendrix stared at the picture and let out a laugh, as if he had just heard a funny joke. But he quickly turned off the screen and tossed the phone onto the table expressionlessly.
At that moment, Noelle's words from the previous night suddenly echoed in his mind. She had said no one would wait for him forever.
In the past, Hendrix wouldn't have cared about such a statement, but now, those words felt like sharp blades piercing straight into his chest:
It was painful.
The smiles in the photo, down to every subtle expression on their faces, felt like sparks igniting a wildfire that spread rapidly across his chest, its flames roaring uncontrollably.
And that emotion was.... jealousy.
At th
that moment, his phone suddenly rang again. He glanced at the caller ID but didn't answer.
However, the caller was relentless.
By the third call, Hendrix finally picked up.
"Mr. Freeman."
The caller had seemingly given up hope of reaching him, so when Hendrix's voice suddenly came
through, there was a noticeable pause before they quickly recovered and said with a laugh, "Apologies for disturbing you so late.
"This is Julio Garcia from Elm Group. Regarding the Continental Reach project..."
"Mr. Garcia? Perfect timing! I have a question for you."
"You're too kind, Mr. Freeman. What is it? Is it about-"
"Does Noelle have a boyfriend now?" Hendrix interrupted him directly.
Although Dan had provided the investigation results, Hendrix wanted a definitive answer from someone close to Noelle.
His tone betrayed no emotion. The question didn't sound like an interrogation. It was just an offhand inquiry, as though it were a casual topic of conversation.
But for Julio, it seemed he stopped breathing for a few seconds as soon as he heard that question. After a brief moment, he replied, "I... I'm not sure."
Hendrix only chuckled lightly in response.
Julio was a seasoned player in the business world, but he only caught on to the underlying meaning in Hendrix's
words now.
He quickly replied, "Her boyfriend... Well, I've heard about him, but I've never met the guy. He's a
university lecturer, after all. He's not someone in our circle. Plus, I've heard he's always busy with work,
often traveling abroad for business. Who knows when they last saw each other?
"So, Mr. Freeman, there's really no need for you to concern yourself with his existence."
Hendrix responded with a cold laugh before hanging up.
