The Sway and Slide of Love

Chapter 145

"And since she doesn't exist, you might as well marry a woman who can help you with your career," argued Beatrice, all logic.

Hendrix was familiar with this side of her. After all, he wouldn't be where he was now if she hadn't brought him up that way.

After staring intently at her for a while, he finally asked, "Why must I get married?"

His question stumped Beatrice.

Hendrix chuckled softly. "It's true I don't have anyone I like right now, but that doesn't mean I'll be willing to use my marriage as a barter. So, no. I'm not going to marry Yvonne, nor will I have any other

relationship with her once the collaboration between our companies ends.

He was about to walk away when Beatrice asked, "But haven't you done it once already? What does it matter if you do it again? Or could it be the reason you were willing to do t the first time was because the woman you were marrying was Noelle?"

Her last question made Hendrix stop in his tracks. He looked over his shoulder and questioned, "Just what are you trying to say?

"I literally just said it. Are you still not over Noelle?"

"I am," answered Hendrix without hesitation.

Beatrice said nothing more. She simply stood there, looking at him. Although the two remained silent, her mocking gaze made Hendrix deeply uncomfortable, causing his brows to gradually furrow.

Finally, Beatrice said, "Fine. If you say you are, then I guess you are. Just know this. Sometimes, it's okay to lie to others, but never to yourself."

Hendrix gazed at her for a while before suddenly breaking into a laugh. "Sounds more like you're talking about yourself! You know full well that man has an illegitimate child outside, yet you keep lying to everyone, claiming he has always loved you.

"After telling so many lies, have you lost track of what's true and what's false?

Beatrice's face gradually fell as Hendrix spoke.

But he didn't look at her. Instead, he turned and walked straight out of the yard.

In the living room, Yvonne was chatting with Ophelia. She was skilled at charming people, and at the

moment, Ophelia was laughing so hard that her face practically glowed with joy.

After taking a glance at them, Hendrix said to Yvonne, "It's getting late. Let me take you home."

"There's no rush. Yvonne and I are getting on splendidly. Why don't we have her stay over for the night?" asked

Hearing this, Yvonne looked at Hendrix with anticipation. He didn't object, even nodding before saying, "Fine by me. I guess I'll head home by myself, then."

"No, Hendrix. Walt-"Ophelia tried to say something, but Hendrix had already walked out.

He didn't even look back once.

Even with her good manners, Yvonne couldn't stop her expression from being frozen in place. Chapter 145

It was then that Beatrice returned. After glancing at Hendrix's retreating figure, she smiled and turned to Yvonne "Sorry, Yvonne, for not hosting you better. Since it's getting late, how about I arrange for the driver to take you home?"

Beatrice's demeanor was still gentle, but the way she looked at Yvonne made it clear. At that moment, Yvonne realized that the earlier incident wasn't just her imagination-Beatrice truly didn't like her.
