The Sway and Slide of Love

Chapter 139

Chapter 139

Clark froze in place, and the woman quickly pointed a finger at Noelle.

She reprimanded, "You're doing all this for this worthless woman, huh? Do you know why Hendrix divorced her in the first place? It's because she slept around!

"She was in her teens when she got involved with that adoptive father of hers. Now, you're messing around with her. Aren't you afraid of getting sick?"

At this point, nearly everyone in the front hall had gathered around.

The woman's words were spoken quickly, her piercing voice reaching the ears of everyone present. Noelle stood frozen, unable to move. Even the words she had been preparing to say disappeared. Clark's expression shifted, and slowly, he turned to look at Noelle.

His shocked gaze, combined with the sudden eruption of voices from the crowd, felt like a tidal wave crashing over her, completely drowning her.

She had thought she wouldn't care about this. After all, months ago, she had revealed this dark past of hers in front of so many people at the restaurant.

She knew then that the incident would be twisted into countless disgraceful versions after the news spread. She had told herself that she wouldn't care.

But back then, the news had been buried. The scene today was only a few months late. Nevertheless, no matter how she had imagined this moment, the reality was still somewhat different. Especially when those judgmental and contemptuous gazes fell upon her, like a slow execution.

Noelle suddenly felt like she was suffocating. She turned her head, trying to locate Brandon because he was the one who brought her here.

She felt like a drowning person, instinctively searching for something, anything, that could keep her afloat. But she couldn't find Brandon.

Instead, among the onlookers, she saw Hendrix. He stood some distance away from the crowd, watching her with the same gaze as everyone else.

Was it unfamiliarity, mockery, or contempt? She couldn't distinguish anymore.

The cold liquor continued to drop down her hair ends, soaking into her skin and seeping into her internal organs. Finally, even her blood wasn't spared. A chilling cold spread throughout her entire body.

She didn't say anything else. She merely turned away silently. As she walked-forward, the people who had been watching parted, creating a path for her. They instinctively kept a distance of more than three feet, as if she were some terrifying virus, afraid to be contaminated by her.

Noelle's D

pace quickened. The moment she stepped onto the stairs, her foot faltered, and she couldn't stop herself from stumbling and falling to her knees. Her palms pressed onto the ground, the dust grinding into her skin and sending sharp pain through her body.

Behind her, she heard soft laughter. That sound felt like a rope that was instantly tightening around her neck. The suffocating feeling grew more intense.

She didn't stop. She quickly pushed herself off the ground, fted her skirt, and continued forward. At the same time, a figure gently blocked her path..

"Noelle." Sandra smiled brightly at her and said, "Let me take you home."

As she spoke, she took off her coat and gently draped it over Noelle's shoulders. "Come on. The driver is waiting outside,"
