The Sovereign Heir (Book 1)

Chapter 44 Ghost From The Past

**Flashback**

“We are going to air surf over their army. Michelle, I want you and all the archers to take out as many as you can. The rest of you will follow me to the ground. Is everyone ready?” Everyone placed their right hand over their heart and responded in unison, “Ready, Commander.”

We jumped down the mountain peak with half my warriors following behind me. With less than one hundred feet down I launched my wings landing in pure silence, taking the element of surprise. With their focus on us, the archers took out many under six minutes. My wings threw out a protective arc shielding my team on the ground.

This was less than half the forces we were expecting. It’s clear they split their contingencies; none would survive this day. My twin sica’s were at the ready cutting through orc’s, dark elves, goblins and anyone else that was on the opposing side. I took as many heads as possible that stood before me. Lex and Lennox tag teamed trolls. Each one that fell caused the ground to quake.

The warlocks were the last left for us to dispatch as their numbers quickly dwindled. The warlocks sent everything they had at me. One by one warlocks dropped as I returned each attack. The last warlock was clutching Baetylus stones to his chest. Little did he realize; those stones couldn’t save him. They only responded to those who emitted an energy frequency in tune with its own. “Bethel,” was the only word I spoke.

The stones consumed him, absorbing his essence until he was nothing put a withered husk. I chanted the ancient prayer over them. As I spoke the last word the stones disappear to an undisclosed location. My back was turned while I removed my helmet to survey the carnage we rot upon them. The smell of blood was suffocating, yet still a necessary evil. “Commander,” Michelle was waiting for my orders. “Search the bodies and their tents. Leave nothing unturned. When you are finished incinerate everything not of use. Leave the field as if nothing ever happened.” Michelle bowed to me as she left, “Yes Commander.”

A knock to my office door brought me back to the present. “Come in Lex.” Lex popped his head in, ”Girl! Why are you still here? Its almost 8.” Shit, I lost track of time, “Let me get out of here, thanks for reminding me.”

I orbed back home into our bedroom. I could hear the shower running indicating he was actually home at a decent hour for once. I removed my shoes and belt while I entered the closet to take my clothes off. Placed myself on the bench in front of the bed waiting for him to come out. It was wrong but I scanned his thoughts to ease my insecurities. Of course, he wasn’t cheating because I would have felt if he was. But he was preoccupied with the thoughts of the packs, then back to me and my safety.

Bryant sent word the King Alder left unhappy with the fact Alexus would be staying mated to Maddox and Queen Alder would be staying for a while at the palace without the king. I hope this would bring us back to a normal relationship.

Nolan must have sensed I was home as the shower shut off abruptly. He came out the bathroom still dripping wet. I lifted my head in his direction, ”Hi,” in a low voice was my response. “I missed you all day, love,” he got on his knees to kiss me. Did he even notice my hair last night or even now? Had he noticed anything different with me? Nolan didn’t give me a chance to talk, he just picked me up taking me straight to the bed. His touch sent electric jolts through my body, making me lose focus on what I really needed to say. He had me naked instantly with the only words to leave my mouth were those of ecstasy.

I woke up and it was 2am Friday morning, the full moon was tomorrow. We were in a tangled mess of sheets, legs and arms. Before I lost my nerve I woke Nolan up, ”Nolan, Nolan!” he

was still groggy when he answered me, “Yes, love.” It was now or never, “I found out some important information about my immortality and the kidnappings, we need to really make the time to talk. Your father is gone, so no more distractions.” He pulled me in closer, “Yes baby, we can definitely talk. I promise, I’m too tired to focus and you definitely need to sleep.” I hesitantly close my eyes praying he doesn’t disappear to god only knows where before I wake up.

Later that morning

Again I woke up to Nolan not being in bed. What in the entire hell do I need to do to pin his ass down in one spot. Technically, I could but using a command on him. It isn’t fair nor is paralyzing his motor function. So many powers and so little choices. I took my slow time getting out of bed. Inside our walk in closet I decided to pick out my clothes for tonight’s show at Ominous.

Yana wrapped herself between my legs and then put her paws on my thighs. Yana projects what she wanted me to see. I came to terms that I would be speaking to my godparents together after all. I twisted my braids into a crown style when my eyes caught my attention in the mirror. There was a cascade of new colors in my already collage of color.

Yana sat on the sink counter watching me very precisely. She pawed my shooting star necklace, telling me to put it on. I got into my ripped black jeans and an off the shoulder sweater, putting my key card in my back pocket.

Breathing in deeply and exhaling slowly, I pulled up to the pack house. The guards bowed as I entered. The vision of my chubby nephew hit me harder entering the pack house. Meaning this would happen sooner rather than later. I found Renee and Ken sitting towards the back of the pack house. Ken got up very quickly, I walked over to him and embraced him in a hug. Renee placed her hand on my back, “I will leave you two alone.”

Uncle Ken gestured for me to sit across from him. I didn’t need to read his mind to see the guilt he carried along with regret. “Uncle Ken, you cannot blame yourself for Ashton. Regardless how well you and Renee raised him, he made a choice and before that choice he planned to kill you both along with my parents long ago.” He looked shocked at my revelation. “ Wait, What?”

As I began to explain what I saw all those years ago after the training grounds. Ken was relieved and disturbed at the same time. I put his mind at ease somewhat, but the fact his son plotted their deaths gave him a new set of questions. “We love you Laina, always remember that and we don’t blame you for Ashton’s decisions.”

As I left the pack house, Lex was facetiming me. I connected him to the onboard console of the roadster. “Hey boss lady, last sound check is done for tonight. The bar is stocked and security updated to your specifications.” I can always count on him to know what I want done. “Thank you, Lex. I don’t know what I would do without you.”

“No your majesty, I don’t know what we would all do without you, see you tonight.”

I did a quick check on the mansion to see if Nolan was home. Per Yana he still hadn’t come back. I took the long way home to kill some time and found myself subconsciously on the back road leading to the clearing Nolan brought me to on our first date.

My tesla wouldn’t be able to go as far in as our trucks so I made my way on foot. I saw the sun hit the water of the pond at the right angle. My mind lingered on everything and nothing. The sun set and the fire flies erupted , it took me this second visit to realize that the drop in temperature this month wasn’t affecting this area, this may have been an old fae sanctuary. As I gazed out my mind was taken somewhere, somewhere long ago.

I was in a deep cavern lit with torches; I could hear a woman cry out in pain causing me to run in the direction of her screams. The scene that laid before me froze my feet; a woman chained by her hands in the air with her legs in a squatting position.

I could see priests of Allister scurry about as she screams out in agony. A few seconds later a baby’s cries were heard. No further attention was given to the woman, they left her bound. “You said you’d set me free once it was born, you promised me, you promised!” she began to cry hysterically. “And so we shall keep our word.” The priest walked behind her and slit her throat. “You are free as we promised.” I watched in horror as the light left her eyes.

“The Lycan packs Luna has given birth early this day, the switch should go unnoticed. Make sure you kill her pup. We leave no evidence that this might not be her child. Soon he will be sent to the realm when he comes of age and we will have what we need.” I watched as they carried the baby out of the cavern. “Allister will be pleased and we shall be rewarded for our loyalty to our master.”

I was pushed further from this time. I was in a Lycan pack , one of the few that could shift back to their human form at the time. “I tell you this is not my son, our son! There is something evil within that child! I’ve had dreams and seen him talking to absolutely no one!” This pack alpha was not listening to his Luna nor did he believe her. “You’re going mad Liza; he is our son!”
