Chapter Return from once we came, will it be the same
Not, wanting to be left behind in an unknown place,
the group including the messenger, all started to chase Terrance. Fast like a wild stallion can go, I was really leaving a dust cloud behind me.
In such a hurry to get home, to be at my father’s side during this time of need.
I even reflect on what the message said over and over in my mind, that my father as gotten word of the situation that befell my brother being taken without cause. But as it continued to say, that it seems those who had taken him offer a trade that our farther would not consider in dealing with.
Without the concept of war. Perish the thought, where in that time I soon felt a deep rumble, that didn’t come from my horse, to find out the reason why, I began to slow the pace of my horse, to a steady stride. To where I slightly turn my horse more to the left side, predicting where the location of the deep rumble emanated from.
Seeing a dark growing haze, descending the tallest hill in the area. Getting closer, I squinted my eyes just a little, as I could only make out that it was a huge army of orcs marching their way, in a fierce ongoing, perseveres onto their target which I dreaded to believe my home. With one jolting of a “he yaws!”, I said dramatically getting the horse to hitch back up to speed.
Few more miles of dirt and rocks being franticly kicked up, I finally made it to the main gate which now had guards posted heavily. Seeing me come from a distance they soon opened the gate.
By the time, I made it inside, the doors soon closed behind me tight with a strong echo of a shudder. That vibrated, till I got to my feet when I dismounted off the horse. Before I even got to turn around, the handlers took my horse, as I was soon escorted by two high ranked elf soldiers walking on both sides of me up to where my father was.
In a room that had a huge octagon shaped table that had a map of the town and surrounding country. With flags showing different regiments, in strategic positioning. All ranks of elves were in this room, not quiet in panic mode, but you could feel the tenseness in the room.
Without thinking, I shouted across the room, “Father!”, instantaneously there was a sudden pause went over the room, as everyone stopped what they were doing, followed by my father then, letting out a big discerning sigh as he handed a piece of parchment that was in his hand to another officer that was standing next to him.
Calling me over to him, with only using his right index finger, realizing that I shouldn’t done that, I proceeded to go to him, trying to not make any eye contact, but only looking at my him. When I was only a few feet from him, he soon brought his right arm over my shoulder soon after that he led me out of the room into the hall. “When everything calms down, we can talk later”, “but dad, what about Elias, is there any word about him” I asked, my father then answered back as he slowly walked back in to the room
“you should know your brother, he’ll be ok”.
Watching the door soon close behind him, I found myself alone in the hall, with two guards standing on either side of the door trying to hold back their grins, picking up my bag that a handler placed next to me I soon, walking down one hallway, then down another.
Finally reaching my room, I couldn’t stop thinking about the past few days, let alone Alanna and her kind family. Then my thoughts soon turned toward thinking about Elias and what he might be going through.
Which I practically felt the same way, when Lucas the oldest brother; went to fight but when he returned he was totally different.
So, different than the brother I once knew, that it was nothing but conflict between our father and him, until one day I would walk past his room.
Look in see him standing there, then keep on walking, until that same afternoon, I would walk again pass his room and it would be dark and he wouldn’t be there anymore which I then soon find out in the days to come that he left with his horse and wasn’t on planning to come back.
It did take some time that I would stop waiting for him at the door.
When suddenly, a voice rang out as it echoed down the hall, when whoever it was ran down the hall “take cover, take cover, they are almost upon us”.
This was certainly a different feeling all together, even though I’ve been told, even from those who I thought were my friends, tell me I would never amount to nothing, and won’t find true love around here being a farmer’s daughter. And for the longest time I started to even believe in that, up until I met Terrance who risked his own life for mine.
“Alanna, it’s time for dinner”, I heard my mother once
again, yell from the kitchen, as I soon responded back “I’m on my way”. As I wrote down my last thought in a small journal, I then closed it, followed by placing it underneath the mattress of my bed.
Soon, leaving my room heading to the dining room where we have all the meals. The same day, but in a different area, we find Sara and Gideon, and his men sitting around a fresh fire, as they made camp for the night, with the thoughts of the upcoming, unknown journey.
Which Sara, twirls the single white rose in her left hand, with the sound the crackling fire in front of them, pondering of how Madeline would define me as this flower.
A few embers make their way up to the midday sky, that a few stars soon shine through. Sort of a perfect ending to an unusual journey so far.
Don’t you think so? And it so, where I must leave you now, though it is not quiet the end as it may not have such an ending for all who trusts their deepest inner soul, that is our true strength.
Everything else is withering petals of the fragile rose, from a reflecting pool of a cascading waterfall. With the settling sound of a fog horn soon bellows through the thick fog that overhangs the stillness of the crisp sea.
Then End
