Chapter How far have we com?
I was right there wasn’t, which I then excused him an sent him on his way, with the clap of his heals together fallowed by him bowing toward me, stood up, faced me for a second as I watched him made a right face turn toward the entrance flap and was just about to take a step out, until all of a sudden we both heard the single howl at first fallowed by several howls after, when the guard said “you must not worry young sire, they only live in the mountains and don’t come down from there at all”.
Which I thought to myself , “that is true, of course when they don’t smell fresh meat within their territory, which like all mammals and birds of prey would do”, but told him “I am not worried, and one more thing I must ask of you” I said to the guard who soon replied, “yes, my young sire” to where I then replied “how long have you been part of this detail?”, “not long, this was my first assignment”, “well then, let me give you some advice” I politely told him “from this day forward, try not to keep referring me as young sire, its either sir or plain sire especially when were around the commoners, OK”.
“Yes, sire, no, I mean sir, no wait sorry, yes”, “well then, that’s OK, oh another thing, never say you’re sorry, it shows weakness”, so without being tongue tide again he just took a small nodded then proceeded out of the tent, as he slowly closed the tent flap behind him.
Taking a few moments of slowly breathing in and out, until I had a feeling of several eyes on me. Looking up, when I did, all the other guards went back to what they were doing, when I looked upward and saw a hint of stares looking at me, until they saw me look at them which, in turn I headed back to my assigned post which was being the guard for the princess’s tent.
I could either sit on an upright semi dry stump, or stand at attention while I walk the length of the front of the tent back and forth, as I would get relieved of duty on a fifteen-minuet cycle.
That I would only come across a few chipmunks getting warmth from fire that one of the other guards made sure that it kept it going throughout the night, as I would listen to the owls as the made a lonely hooting sound in the tallest of trees, probably as well watching the chipmunks or any other enticed creature and as they wait for a perfect time to strike.
Though, throughout the night that surely to me seemed a very long one, it still was fresh in my mind of how his majesty the king Tari, the young princess father, would allow him, the youngest of three sons, allow him to go on this unknown a possibly dangerous journey without any restraint.
I, myself wasn’t going to question him given the fact that there wouldn’t be a need to question any order given by the king, to protect his son at any cost, any means to even keep a report of where he goes and who he meets whether they could be trusted.
But till then, I patiently guard him tonight up until the morning dawns its brightly glow with a slight haze of mist covered the wet marshes of the many cattails outlining a small creek of a slow-moving spring, which we each got a canister or bucket of the fresh water in the morning, to drink, wash clothes, or to make warm stew for the morning breakfast.
There was a slight breeze, that moved the branches of the tall trees that surrounded the small opening where we made camp, as it was enough motion which it brought the sound of falling morning dew that dropped from the leaves onto the dry ground, as well as some of our tents also became a little damp as well, do to how close we were underneath the very tall trees, it was still a nice majestic morning to move on.
Although the young prince, did like to sleep in more than an being an early riser, to some extent we did show a lot of patients as we the guards took in the morning, and viewed it as a day off.
“Sir, it is time to wake, I think you slept long enough”, with the continues sound of autumn leaves rubbing against each other, I then slowly pulled back the tent flap, and peeked inside, where to my surprised amazement.
When, of not what I didn’t see, to whom I didn’t. It was only after I took a few steps in to the tent, closer and closer toward the cot that laid along the side of right sided of the tent, which normally I would see being a royal tent to be much wider than this but to make it sure that he didn’t bringing more attention to himself than needs be, he would take not only one of our tents but also a single cot for himself.
Continuing, with my eyes only noticing a slight bump underneath the blankets, where I slowly and gently tapped with my right index finger, trying my best not to make him upset.
Several times I’ve tried, and the same result, nothing, no movement, nor sound of a grown, I did not hear either sound which make me more uneasy.
