Chapter 30
Night fell and as it did Braiba and the princess readied the dinner table for dinner.
Anja hadn’t left his room since and Braiba was worried that he would miss dinner but the princess came up with an idea to get him to come out and join them.
The princess told Braiba to use her magic to send the aroma of the food in to Anja’s room, knowing that Anja would not be able to resist coming out to eat upon hearing it.
Braiba couldn’t help but giggle upon hearing the princess’s plan, never accepting someone of royal blood to be so crafty.
Braiba did as the princess instructed and then, using her magic, she sent the aroma of the food to Anja’s room.
As the aroma reached the food they could hear Anja talking to himself, trying his best to resist.
“NOOOO!!!!” said Anja with his thunderous voice before finally giving in to his hunger, bursting out the door and dashing to the dinner table, moving as fast as the wind.
Anja, upon reaching the dinner table saw Braiba and the princess who were trying their but to hold their laughter.
“What? I’ve eaten only once the entireday” said Anja.
“It’s… quite…alright Anja” said Braiba trying to hold back her laughter.
“Please have a seat” said the princess with a devilish smile.
Anja upon seeing the smile on her face took a seat but looked at the princess suspiciously, not just the princess’s smile.
“Is this food poisoned or something” said Anja with his eyes still on the princess.
“Who knows, I guess you’ll have to find out” said the princess with another devilish smile.
Anja upon seeing the way the princess smiled at him became nervous, fearing that she might have done something to the food.
“I’m warning you if you did something to the food I’ll….” Anja’s thunderous voice stopped speaking by the princess interrupting him, saying, “Please stop speaking with thunder in your voice and lightning in your eyes, you can’t intimidate or scare me with your little tricks. I see right through you storm maker so if you truly want to know if the food its poisoned have a bit, if you wake up tomorrow then you’ll know”.
Anja shut up upon hearing what the princess said, he then took a spoon and began to eat, glaring more at the princess with each bit he took.
Braiba tried her best to contain her left and focus on her meal but the sight of Anja and the princess bickering like cats and dogs did not make it easy for her.
It was quite amusing to see Anja brought down by a princess, Anja thought of himself as a high and mighty storm maker who could bring down anything be it giant or beast with just the sound of his voice but a princess who didn’t fear him or his loud thunderous voice had brought him down and shrunk his ego massive ego, it was truly an amusing sight.
The princess ate her food with a smile on her face while watching Anja glare at her as he ate his food.
“Sleep tight Anja, who knows, it may be your last night alive” said the princess with another devilish smile just to rattle his bones a little.
Anja glared at her, trying his best to resist striking her down with a lightning bolt.
Anja eat fast as he didn’t want to stay in the dining table with Braiba and the princess as he was still angry and bitter because of his parent’s deaths.
Once, he was done eating Anja rushed out of the dining room and straight in to his room, banging the door being him.
Braiba just sighed as her brother had left without even as much as saying goodnight to her.
“Hey” said the princess as she held Braiba’s hand, sensing that she wasn’t alright.
Braiba smiled at her before the both of them continue to eat their meal.
It was late and time to sleep, Anja was already in his room a fast asleep, Braiba thought it was would be best if Anja slept alone for that night, not having the strength to give him false hope that their parents were still alive in his dreams only for him to wake up and be crushed when he sees their parents are still dead.
So Braiba decided to sleep in her room that night.
The princess upon seeing Braiba in her room lying on her bed did not want to intrude by asking her if she could sleep in her room once again for the night so she just went to her and asked her for some blankets so she could sleep in the living room.
“No, you aren’t sleeping there, it’s cold, dark and uncomfortable” said Braiba.
“But where can I sleep, you are sleeping here and something tells me Anja won’t like it if I slept in his from for the night” said the princess.
“You can sleep here with me” said Braiba.
“Are you sure about that, I mean I don’t want to intrude” said the princess.
“You’re not intruding I promise besides I could use the company” said Braiba.
“Oh, alright then” said the princess, agreeing to share the room with Braiba for the night.
The princess joined Braiba on the bed and slowly drifted away to sleep only to wake up moments later panting and covered in sweat.
The princess had a horrific nightmare where she saw the Dark Sorcerer kill her father and lay waste to Buganbal by using his magic to make it rain fire on the land and summoning horrifying monsters to terrorize the land.
“Braiba” whispered the princess softly, checking if Braiba was sleeping.
“What?” asked Braiba who was still awake as she couldn’t sleep due to the nightmares she would have every time she closed her eyes and try to sleep.
In her nightmares she watched her parents die over and over again, Anja left her alone filled with bitterness and hatred for her, leaving her alone to watch to torment cycle of her parents die again and again.
“I can’t sleep, I had a night” said the princess.
“So did I” said Braiba.
The princess just sighed upon hearing that Braiba too had a nightmare.
“What was your nightmare about” asked the princess.
“My parents dying again and again and again and I was forced to watch them while Anja left me filled with hatred to suffer. And your” said Braiba.
“My father being killed by the Dark Sorcerer and Buganbal being terrorized by beast and fire raining from the sky” said the princess.
“And I thought my nightmare was bad” said Braiba jokingly upon hearing the kind of the princess had.
“I don’t know, watching your parents die repeatedly with your only family abandoning you to suffer alone. That’s terrifying” said the princess joking.
They both then burst in to laughter as they both found it amusing that they were able to make joke out of their horrifying dreams.
Finally, after laughing for a very long time they stopped to catch their breath.
“Life is makes no sense” said the princess.
“It doesn’t have to make sense, that’s just how life is, illogical and unpredictable” said Braiba.
“Tell me about it, one minute you’re a princess with an overprotective father and the next thing you know you’re living in the home of a lovely young sorceress and a grumpy storm maker” said the princess.
“Yeah, one minute you have two loving parents who care and love you with all their heart and the next minute they are gone” said Braiba with a slight smile as tears began to flow out of her eyes.
The princess felt a tear falling from her eyes as well.
“Oh what I wouldn’t give to hear my father’s voice even if it’s just him yelling at me for doing something dangerous like sneaking out of the palace late at night” said the princess as more tears flowed down from her eyes.
“I would give up everything I have in a heart bit if it meant bringing back my parents” said Braiba with tears continuing to flow out of her eyes.
Braiba and the princess then turned to each other and the tears they were shedding over their parents.
The princess then smiled a little before saying, “at least one good thing came out of this, I might have lost a father but I at least earned a sister”.
Braiba smiled upon hearing what the princess said.
Braiba and the princess then hugged each other with tears still falling down from their eyes.
The two young women now shared a deep and unbreakable bond that was not bound by blood but still had the strength that came with a sisterly bond.
Meanwhile in Anja’s room, Anja laid on his bed wide awake unable to sleep for the same reason the princess and Braiba couldn’t sleep as well.
He could sleep because each time he closed his eyes he would have nightmares of his parents being killed by the Dark Sorcerer while Braiba dragged him preventing him from trying to save them.
Having that horrible nightmare over and over again made Anja hate sleeping and did not even want to close his eyes for a second, fearing that if he did so he would fall asleep and end up having the same horrible nightmare.
Anja then sighed before getting up from bed and looking around his dark, cold, empty room.
Memories of his parents then flashed in his, memories, so deep within his past that he was shocked to be able to see that so clearly in his minds eyes.
Anja remembered his younger years, back then both he and Braiba could control their powers and would often end up destroying everything they touched due to their lack of control.
Braiba was very easy to teach, she was calmer and patient than Anja which enabled her better control her powers, Anja on the other found it a lot more difficult to control his.
Unlike his sister, Anja was impulsive, quick to anger and lacked patience which made learning to control his power as a storm maker even much more difficult than Braiba.
Anja smiled slightly as he remembered all the trouble he gave his parents when learning how to control his powers, there was even a point when his father was trying to teach him how to control his powers and he ended up created a small blizzard that covered their entire house in blanket of ice and snow.
Anja sighed once again as he thought about how much trouble he must have been as a child, not just because of his lack of control over his powers but because of his temper driven behavior.
Anja was not an easy child, not only because of his power but also his anger and temper, something his parents had to deal with while raising him.
Anja remember every scream, yell, punishment and lecture he ever got from his parents and simple smiles before tears began to fall down from his eyes.
His parents had always been there for him and Braiba, they made him feel safe because he knew that no matter what happens, they would always be there, at least that was what he used to believe.
Then a burst of wind blew through Anja window and the very moment it did so Anja stopped crying.
The feeling of sadness Anja felt slowly began to fade away and a new feeling took its place, a feeling of pure, untamed anger and rage.
Sparks of lighting began to flow through Anja’s body as he felt a presence through the wind, a dark presence, similar to the power he felt that corrupted his parents but with only difference being that it felt much powerful.
Immediately Anja knew what was coming, then without much of a thought he flew out of the window.
Then, what sounded like an army of giants began to echo through the forest, the sound grew louder and louder and as it did the earth around them begun to quake and shake.
Braiba could sense the power too but unlike Anja, could sense the presence of something darker but it wasn’t power, it was corrupt and twisted soul.
Braiba upon sensing that the presence was drawing nearer to them, she turned to the princess with a look of pure fear in her eyes.
The look on Braiba’s face made the princess worried so she asked, “What’s wrong?”
“We need to go get Anja” said Braiba before rushing out of her room, headed straight for Anja’s room.
The princess followed Braiba as well, confused and immensely worried.
Upon reaching Anja’s room they were both shocked and frightened to see that he wasn’t there.
They both then looked out the window and saw Anja flying about above the house, waiting for something.
The sounds from the forest grew louder and louder to the point that they could be confused for thunder, the too earth continued shake and quake.
Then, much to the horror of both Braiba and the princess monstrous beasts, creatures began to emerge from the forest lead by none other than the Dark Sorcerer himself riding his Black Death Beast.
Anja upon seeing the Dark Sorcerer and his army landed in front of them.
With a serious look on his face, he did not try to hide the anger and pure hatred he felt inside upon seeing the Dark Sorcerer.
“Are you the one who killed my parents” asked Anja.
The Dark Sorcerer looked at Anja and then smiled, realizing immediately that he was the son of Alaelra and Afini.
“Yes, I’m the one” said the Dark Sorcerer without hesitation or even an ounce of remorse or regret in his voice.
Upon hearing what the Dark Sorcerer said, Anja wasted no time, he attacked, charging straight for the Dark Sorcerer before summoning massive bolts of lightning from the sky to rain down and strike the Dark Sorcerer and his army.
Braiba and the princess watched with their hearts pounding out of fear and worry for Anja’s safety, especially the princess who knew exactly how dangerous and ruthless the Dark Sorcerer was.
The lightning had created a massive cloud of smoke and dust that engulfed Anja, the Dark Sorcerer and his army of monsters making it hard to see but Braiba managed to notice something moving from with the smoke cloud.
It looked like a faint shadow but as it got closer Braiba was able to make out who it was.
Immediately, using her magic, she disappeared reappearing next to the figure and brought him back home with her using her magic.
It was Anja, who was immensely weaken, he had put everything he had on that one attack, hoping it would be enough to end the Dark Sorcerer.
“Are you crazy? That was very stupid and idiotic, even for you Anja. What if you got hurt or worse” said Braiba?
“I could care less about my life, it’s already a living hell thanks to you Braiba” said Anja looking at Braiba with a look of pure rage and bitterness in his eyes.
“What’s wrong with, why would you say something like that to her” said the princess, shocked upon hearing what Anja said about his sister.
“She’s no sister of mine, she a coward, who prefers to run instead of fighting” said Anja, hurting Braiba deeply who was trying her absolute best to keep her tears from falling down.
“And as for what I did, I just needed to make that monster pay” said Anja.
The princess was about to say something against Anja and what the way he was speaking to his sister when they heard the sounds of someone clapping from outside the house.
They all then looked out the window and saw with a look of both shock and horror, the cloud of smoke slowly clearing away and dark sorcerer alongside his army still standing completely unharmed.
“Very impressive young storm maker, I almost felt something from that attack” said the Dark Sorcerer before raising his hand up and firing from it a powerful blast of dark, destructive magic.
As the blast made its way towards them, the princess, fearing that this was the end of their lives closed her eyes.
She heard a loud boom, almost as though, the blast had hit something else other than them.
Slowly the princess opens her eyes and then saw a massive protective shield created by Braiba using her magic that protected them and the entire house all from the Dark Sorcerer’s attack.
The Dark Sorcerer upon seeing the shield Braiba created just sighed feeling immensely annoyed by it before commanding his army of monsters to attack.
The beasts and monsters attacked from all sides trying to break the shield.
Braiba with each blow delivered to the shield by the monsters felt the shield grow weaker and weak.
She knew if this was to continue, sooner or later the shield would eventually give in and shatter apart, leaving them defenseless against the Dark Sorcerer and his monster army.
“Remove the shield Braiba, I can handle these monsters by myself” said Anja.
“What is wrong with you? Do you honestly think you alone can handle and an entire army of monsters of your own?” said the princess who immensely annoyed and angry at Anja for thinking he would be able to defeat the monster army on his own.
“I never asked for your opinion princess” said Anja.
“She’s right Anja, you can’t just win this battle on your own” said Braiba.
Anja then looked out the window and saw how the monsters were busy attacking the shield.
“Fine, don’t remove the shield. It will break eventually and when it does I’ll make that monster and his army pay, and this time I’ll make sure he stops breathing” said Anja with bitterness and rage in his voice, determined to have avenge his parent’s death at any and all costs.
Braiba knew that Anja was right, she could feel it, every blow delivered by the monster the shield grew weaker and weaker, and it was going to breaking soon.
Braiba knew she needed to come up with something to protect herself, Anja and the princess from the Dark Sorcerer.
She after a few moments of thinking, she remembered the compass her mother left behind to guide both her and Anja.
Braiba then brought out the compass, hoping it would be able to help them all in some way.
So, desperate and hoping that the compass can save them all she opened it and looked at the compass’s arrow that spun around immediately after Braiba opened the compass before finally stopping and point out through the window at the forest.
Braiba’s eyes widened with sadness in her heart, understanding what the compass was saying.
Braiba then turned to the princess and Anja before saying, “we need to leave”.
“What?” said the princess, shocked upon hearing what Braiba said?
“Typical, you’re too much of a coward to fight so you would rather choose to run and hide” said Anja.
“Do you honestly think I want to leave Anja? This place is our home where we grew up with father and mother. We’ve made countless memories I will cherish for the rest of my life here. Leaving this place, hurts me too Anja but we have to if we want to survive” said Braiba.
“Then go and take the princess with you, I staying and fighting. There is no way I’m leaving the only thing I have left of my parents” said Anja.
One of the monsters then delivered a massive blow to the shield the caused to begin to crack
“Anja please, we don’t have much time” Braiba pleaded with him.
“No, I’m not leaving, not this time” said Anja.
Braiba then sighed before saying, “I’m sorry Anja but I can’t lose you too”.
Braiba then began to use her magic to bind Anja’s arms and legs.
“Let go of me Anja” said Anja, struggling to free himself from Braiba’s hold on him.
“I’m sorry Anja” said Braiba softly.
“LET GO OF ME RIGHT……” Anja spoke with his thunderous voice but before he could even complete his sentence Braiba used her magic to make herself, the princess and Anja disappear.
And at the very moment they disappear the shield protecting their home broke.
The Dark Sorcerer then commanded his monsters to go in to the house and retrieve the princess but they returned to him with empty hands.
The Dark Sorcerer simply sighed upon realizing the princess, Anja and Braiba were gone.
“Go, search the entire forest if you have to, find that princess and bring her to me alive, kill any and everyone who gets in your way” said the Dark Sorcerer.
The Dark Sorcerer’s monster army then ran off, rushing in to the forest in search of the princess with the desire to kill any and everything that dared to stand in their way.
Only the Dark Sorcerer and his faithful Black Death Beast remained standing before the house.
“It seems as though I will have to be responsible for the death of another storm maker and sorceress. *Sigh* Oh well, spilling blood isn’t something new to me” said the Dark Sorcerer before turning to the house and then using his dark magic to cause the entire house to crumble and fall apart, leaving behind a pile of rubble where the house once stood.
“At least now those children have no home to go back to. I’m truly a monster with no heart or soul, I took away their parents, now I took away their home and I will probably end their lives when I find them. Oh well, I don’t mind being the villain of this story, vengeance is all I care about and to have it I am more than willing to become the devil himself” said the Dark Sorcerer with a wicked smile on his face.
