The Rogue Alpha

Chapter Unexpected Visitor

We decided to go back to my family cabin. I'd had enough of the party, and definitely didn't feel like fending off seven Alphas, in nothing but a robe and my hat.

Unfortunately, my bro left his car at the other end of the woods. Forturnately, we could just run home in our wolf forms.

Marshall stopped us on our way out. "You're not going to the Shade Cabin, are you?"

"Why wouldn't I?" I challenged.

He lowered his head slightly. "I mean no disrespect, Luna DoJo, but it's a hunter's cabin, wolves are not permitted."

"I'm expected to be there." I declared, "And there is where I'll be!"

We left. When we reached a secluded place we stripped, with our backs to each other. I only had the robe and hat to remove, so it took him considerably longer to remove everything.

As soon as I was naked I transformed into my wolf. The change was still incredibly fast, I barely felt anything, but the series of pops that ricocheted through my body was unpleasant to my ears. I wondered how I had ignored it the first time.

I waited patiently for my bro to finish his transformation before we grabbed our clothes in our mouths and ran for the cabin.

His wolf was just barely bigger than mine, but gray with gray eyes. "You're a duller version of me." I teased.

He shook his head and replied in my mind, "You shouldn't be able to mind link when you're not in a pack."

"You're my bro, that's family, a pack is family, why wouldn't it make sense?" I reasoned, not seeing the big deal.

He didn't respond, but I could tell his mind was working on the puzzle he felt he found.

By the time we arrived I was sick of the taste and feel of clothes. I happily spit the robe and hat on the ground by the entrance to the drive and returned to my human form. Then I bent to pick up my stuff and immediately grimaced. "Ugh, gross, wolf slobber."

My bro finished his change laughing at me. "What did you expect?"

I held the slobber soked robe so it covered my private areas and walked up the driveway. "I didn't think about it." I admitted.

My bro smiled. "Tomorrow we'll take you to get an appropriate wardrobe."

"Like I can afford a new wardrobe." I complained.

He volunteered, "It's on me, four good outfits and a pack."

I felt a sudden stabbing pain in my side, much worse than the last times.

My bro caught up to me, pushed me further up the driveway, while holding his own sides.

"What is that?" I cried out as I gasped for air.

"I think it's the border line between Wolfsville and Hunt City." He informed me, "It's probably a natural deterent to keep the wolves on their side."

I groaned. "It's just going to get worse for the next couple weeks, isn't it?"

"Things are going to get complicated." My bro agreed, "And we might have to find somewhere else to stay, I doubt your hunting family will embrace your other side, or want me around."

"Well, I'm here now, and I'm going to make use of the hot tub. I swear I'm sore all the way to my bones, and all I want is to be engulfed in heat." I declared.

My bro laughed. "First changes are often like that. I'm going to get dressed in fresh clothes and go get my car. You'll be fine here by yourself, not even an Alpha would dare to break the treaty between towns."

I nodded my head and continued on my path to relaxation.

It was everything I needed. When I got out I wanted two things, food and sleep. I dressed in my night clothes and headed to the kitchen. I found a roast in the oven, about to ding, and a note from my bro telling me not to wait up.

I threw the note away. "He's gone to see Sammy Sam." I told the air, "He can't fool me."

I took the roast out of the oven and cut myself a huge slab, that I then took it to my room.

Once I put the plate down I opened my window, the one I had seen the yellow eyes out of. I then cut a chunk off my slab and stared out, wondering if I would see them again. As I chomped on my dinner they appeared, only much closer than the night before.

I smiled and called out, "Are you going to stay out there, being a voyeur, or are you going to come close enough to have a conversation?"

The eyes cautiously moved forward. "I shouldn't be here at all." His response vibed into my head.

"Because of the treaty?" I asked.

"I'm a rogue." He stated, "That treaty doesn't bind me."

I inquired, "Then what's holding you back?"

"It's dangerous to hope for something you can never have." He answered.

"There's nothing stopping us from having a conversation." I pointed out.

"And if I can't stop there?" He asked, still a good ten feet away from my window.

I thought for a moment and replied, "Then you aren't a very good Alpha."

"Never said I was." He pointed out, "There's a reason I'm a rogue."

I turned from the window and cut another chunk of meat off my slab. Then I decided to take a moment to cut all the outer pieces off, leaving the rare center to itself. I looked out the window and asked, "I don't suppose you like your meat rare?"

"Rare is the best!" He declared.

I reached over and grabbed the center piece and held it out the window. He cautiously approached, and then carefully took it from me with his wolf mouth. He munched on his piece while I chomped on mine, occasionally stopping to pull chunks of fat off, and placing them on the window sill.

"You don't eat fat either?" He asked, clearly shocked.

"It feels gross." I explained.

"You're like no wolf I've ever met."

I laughed and stated, "I can't help but be unique, human or wolf, I just can't fit a mold."

"Can I have your fat?" He asked shyly.

"If I can have your name." I replied.

He whispered, "Nolan." Then a black paw quickly wiped away the chunks of fat from the window sill.

"Nice to meet you, Alpha Nolan." I stated.

"Just call me Nolan, Luna DoJo."

I chuckled. "Only if you agree to call me DoJo."

"Was that really your first change ever today?" He asked in a hushed voice.

I wondered why he felt the need to whisper in my mind, but I shook it off. Then I nodded my head. "What did you think of my wolf?" I asked.

He was silent for a moment, and I found myself apprehensive of what his answer might be.

He responded, "Gor-or-orgeous!"

I smiled and breathed. "My bro said that I'm a Luna among Lunas." I informed him, "I still don't quite understand what he meant."

Nolan explained, "If you were in a room full of Lunas, they would bow to you as the Luna."

"I can't be that powerful." I exclaimed, "I'm just finding myself."

"Some people are born powerful, and some people strive for power they don't deserve." Nolan stated, "You are in the first category, and no matter what others have done to try and destroy you, it has only made you stronger."

More fat scraps disappeared from the window.

We heard a car in the distance.

"That's my queue to go." Nolan declared. I looked out the window a few moments later, and all I could see was shadows. One of them could be him, but there was no way for my eyes to tell. I sensed him nearby, but could I really trust that?

I shut my window and sighed.
