The Rise of Nix

Chapter 6

Deimos had not believed his luck. Not only did he find her so fast, but he was also currently swimming lazily with her in a pool, not to mention naked as well. He had wished the water was clearer so he could gaze upon her beautiful body, but it would not be. Instead, he had to settle with talking which came so natural. While undressing, his words had choked in his throat, but as soon as she blushed in embarrassment, a previously hidden part had crept to the surface. One which he now knows loved to tease her. From all the times he had watched her, Deimos knew she was special, but as they swam, their conversation turned deep, and she had managed to keep up. Nix's response had only heightened his feelings for her, and he cursed himself. In less than a day of meeting her, he was going to break one of the rules of the Gods.

Their bodies had drifted closer as their connection heightened, and after his own exploration of her beautiful features, her response made him hard. It felt strange having his body react without him even trying, and the feelings currently onslaught him made him feel good but also out of his comfort zone. Hair as fine as gold coupled with her luxurious lips revealed a scene he had never laid eyes upon. The water made a lock clung to her chin, causing the ends to stick to her bottom lip. He had to control himself and not reach out to smooth it while stealing a tender touch of her skin. As he leaned in, the internal battle was close to being lost, but an unexpected guest had saved his ass.

"Who the hell are you?" a man asked from the side, his voice deep and loud.

Swerving to face the intruder, Deimos faltered as he focused on the beast. This man was enormous as he stood by the water's edge, hands gripping his waist as dark eyes clashed with his. As Deimos watched the man, an aura illuminated from his form. Being a God, he had immense powers, but in this mortal form, they were limited to almost non-existent, but with what he had, Deimos zoned in on him and onto the aura that shrouded him. All living beings have an ambience that is connected to their nature. Darker auras of various colors point to the person, or supernatural, having a dark essence. Sometimes there is only the slightest touch, but with others, like the intruder, there is more darkness. An off orange shone from his outline, shooting out as a deeper orange touched with black vibrating closer to his body's outline. Wolf, Deimos thought to himself. He had wondered if he would cross paths with other supernatural, and now here he was.

The blond head of Nix moved away from him, swimming closer to the edge, stopping just between him and the wolf. Still, with his eyesight, Deimos gasps as Nix's aura nearly blinds him. The bright green shone from her head, the color muffled from her body inside the water. The part he did see was the clearest he had ever witnessed, a sign that he chose correctly. Not a drop of darkness clung to her.

The wolf's eyes wandered from him to Nix as she closed the distance between them, eliciting jealousy from Deimos. How did she know this man? Are they lovers? Fisting his palms beneath the surface, Deimos bit back the demand he wanted to yell at Nix. Get away from him. He is bad news. But unfortunately, she would probably rebuff him, causing his actions to send her into the wolf's arms.

"This is Deimos," answered Nix.

Maverick's gaze softened as he eyed her, sending anger pulsing in Deimos's veins. "Is he bothering you?"

The dark gaze of the wolf shot at him, his eyebrows drawn in with suspicion. Nix also looked at him, but Deimos kept scrutinising the wolf.

"No, he is a friend," replied Nix.

Deimos looked to Nix in bewilderment, confused and thrilled by her statement. It is good. His job will become much easier if she sees him as a friend.

"Are you sure?" the suspicion clung to Maverick's voice.

"You heard the lady. We are friends." Adrenaline spiked as Deimos slowly turned his eyes to the wolf's, a smirk on display. "If you would be so kind, we were in the middle of something."

Dark eyes turned to slivers as Maverick looked at him, his fisted palms swinging by his side. Red tinted his tanned face with a vein popping in his forehead. "I shall let the lady decide." his jaw clenched and unclenched as they both held contact, a silent fight of dominance breaking out between the two men.

Nix felt the tension rise in the pool, and she suddenly feared for their lives. She might have just met the two men, but an attraction between them had begun with two new possible futures, but if they fought, it would vanish, and she would still be stuck in the village. "Well, this is awkward. How about I leave so you two love birds can enjoy a swim."

Deimos broke eye contact first, not because he was scared of the wolf, but rather because he heard the tension in Nix's voice. "That seems like a wonderful idea," beginning to swim, he passed Nix to reach the edge. "How about I walk you back to the village?"

"No need." interrupted Maverick, "I was sent to escort her home."

Grabbing the edge, Deimos pulled himself out of the water in a swift movement, one leg reaching over his arm to push down against the ground. Standing straight, he raised his chin in a display of brashness. As water dripped down his naked form, Maverick stared him straight on, refusing to ogle his naked form. With a smirk, Deimos moved to dress.

Fully clothed, he turned to Nix in the water, her body facing them, but her head bowed. Deimos wished she had watched his naked form, knowing how glorious he was, but being the good person she was, she had looked away.

"It was good meeting you." Nix turned to him, locking eyes. "I look forward to seeing you again. Soon, I hope."

Turning to leave, Deimos faltered as Maverick spoke. "I will walk with you to give Nix some privacy."

Heavy footsteps of twigs and dried leaves sounded behind him while they walked, an uneasy feeling causing him to regret having the wolf behind him. The rumors fluttering between the Gods were that the wolves have anger issues, always eager for a fight. Being in this mortal body, Deimos could not defend himself, especially from the claws of a werewolf. Entering the woods on the familiar path, Deimos began to think of a way to rid himself of the wolf when strong hands grabbed his shirt, yanking him back. The hold behind him vanished, and in its place, a rough tree slammed into him. The sudden action whipped his head around, crashing into the bark. Material bunched by his chest as Maverick fisted his clothes, pulling them face to face. In close proximity, Deimos could smell the beast on the man and also the anger he gave off.

"Who the hell are you really?" spat Deimos.

The unexpected action had slammed his breath away, but dragging deep, Deimos slightly lowered his head, locking his gaze with the wolf. "That is not for you to know, wolf."

The reveal of his proper form lessened the grip on Deimos, but he still held on. "How do you know?"

Maverick stepped back, dropping his hold on Deimos, a puzzled look on his features. "I know more than you know, Alpha," replied Deimos, straightening his clothes.

Raising his nose, Maverick sniffed the air before facing Deimos. "You are no wolf," he continued, looking him up and down. "But you are also not human. There is a stench to your scent."

"You will never know what I am," stepping up to Maverick, Deimos glared, "so be warned. I am capable of things you could not fathom, and you will learn what they are with one misstep."

Without waiting for a reply, Deimos turned to leave, the perplexed werewolf watching as he disappeared into the woods.
