Chapter 38 You Flatter Me, Mr. Stan.

After a long pause, Stan spoke calmly, “They are currently in Hill City. I can help you contact them and arrange for Old Mr. Ayesa to receive medical treatment.”

Elsa immediately asked, “Mr. Stan, what do you want in return?”

Stan reached into his pocket and took out a ring box. He opened it, revealing a pink diamond ring the size of a pigeon’s egg.

“Do you not want to be in a relationship with someone openly and honestly,” he said, pushing the ring towards Elsa with his usual cold demeanor. “I can fulfill that for you.”

Elsa was stunned as she looked down at the pigeon egg-sized ring in disbelief.

When she asked, she guessed that Stan might be unable to find a suitable female companion. And if he wanted to renew his contract with her, she could also agree to it by gritting her teeth. She thought that she would only put up with it for another year, but she never expected Stan to pull out the ring!

Stan looked at her and asked, “So, you don’t like the ring?”

“I like it. Which woman wouldn’t like such a big pigeon egg- sized diamond?” Elsa quickly regained her composure and picked up the pink diamond, examining it in her hand.

“But Mr. Stan, I can’t be in a romantic relationship with you. It would cause a sensation, and I know my status,” Elsa said. “I

also know that you had a crush on someone who

unfortunately became vegetative after a car accident. Is it because she can’t wake up that you’re looking for someone to replace her?”

“Sort of,” Stan said, his expression unchanged as he extinguished his cigarette in the ashtray.

“I’ll arrange for the necessary examinations for Old Mr. Ayesa, and I’ll cover all the expenses. If you need any further assistance in the future, you can let me know. But I have one condition, marry me.”

Elsa’s mouth twitched, and she felt speechless.

Earlier, Cherry had warned her not to become someone’s substitute, and now Cherry’s words seemed to be coming

true.

“I’m sorry, Mr. Stan, but I can’t agree to that,” Elsa pushed the ring back and smiled, “If you want to re-establish our

relationship, I can agree to that. I can accompany you every day, but not in marriage.”.

She was willing to sacrifice herself to a certain extent, but she didn’t want to be someone’s substitute.

“Not in a hurry. You can take your time to consider,” Stan glanced at the ring, his eyes obscured. “The medical team from Switzerland will be staying in Hill City for a week.”

Elsa furrowed her eyebrows. “Mr. Stan, how much are you selling this favor for?”

At the words, a cold smirk tugged at the corner of Stan’s mouth. “Elsa, everything you have right now is because of me.

I don’t lack money either.”

“What do you mean, because of you? I’ve earned everything through my hard work!” Elsa retorted without reservation. “If I don’t have to do anything and just take your money, which would be getting something for nothing. But the money I earned through physical labor is rightfully mine.”

“Elsa, you’re becoming more and more eloquent,” Even Stan, who was always composed, couldn’t help but chuckle, and a good portion of his pent-up frustration dissipated.

She was the only one who dared to argue with him several times.

Elsa smiled faintly and said, “You flatter me, Mr. Stan. How can I be a good anchor without some eloquence?”

When the waiter brought the juice, Elsa poured a glass for Stan before pouring one for herself. “Mr. Stan, I won’t consider your proposal. The world is so big, and I do not believe that with my wealth, I can’t find a doctor to help treat my grandfather.”

“However, I want to thank you for helping me twice last night. at the club,” Elsa raised her glass and clinked it with his. “Mr. Stan, thank you.”

“Well.”

He didn’t say anything more, even though he didn’t particularly like juice. He drank half a glass to maintain

courtesy. Soon, the dishes were brought up by the waiter and filled the entire table.

As Elsa and Stan had dinner, Elsa skillfully lightened the

atmosphere. She ate her porridge and chatted with Stan. And quickly brushing off the unpleasantness from earlier.

As they were leaving the restaurant after dinner, Elsa had just pushed open the glass door when a small figure carelessly bumped into her arms. Elsa lost her balance and did not stand still, almost causing her to fall.

But Stan, beside her, quickly supported her by placing his hand on her lower back.

Through the thin fabric, Stan could feel the woman’s slim and soft waist, and his gaze deepened.

During their previous time together, Stan often traveled abroad for business, so their time together was relatively short. But the most memorable aspect in his mind was her slender waist, which felt soft and boneless, easily held with just one hand.

Thought of this, Stan felt a tightness in his lower abdomen. When he watched Elsa regain her balance, he gracefully released his hand and acted gentlemanly.

“Thank you,” Elsa thanked him and gently let go of the little girl in her arms. The girl had two teary eyes, resembling a bunny. Elsa didn’t scold her but lowered her head and asked softly, “Sweetie, what happened?”

“I… I can’t find Mommy…” The little girl pouted and burst into tears, looking pitiful.

Elsa knelt and wiped away the tears from the little girl’s face. She asked, “Did you get separated from your mommy? Do you remember your mommy’s phone number?”

The little girl nodded and gave her mother’s phone number to Elsa.

However, when it came to the last digit, she couldn’t remember it and became distressed, crying again.

Elsa comforted the little girl, saying, “Don’t cry. I will try each number one by one until we dial your mom’s phone number. Are you hungry?”

The little girl shook her head, but her stomach growled loudly.

She quickly covered her stomach with her small hands and looked at Elsa, feeling embarrassed.

Seeing Elsa busy taking care of the little girl and considering taking her to a nearby store to eat, Stan finally spoke, “Your should dial 911 and ask the police to help her find her mom.”

“The police will take some time to arrive,” Elsa said. “Besides, I’m not in a hurry. Mr. Stan, you can go ahead. When her mother comes, I’ll take a taxi back.”

Stan noticed Elsa’s attire and remembered that she was on her period. He felt sympathy, realizing that taking a taxi at night might not be convenient for her.

Just as he was about to say something, a phone call came in.

After the call, Stan handed the car keys to Elsa. “Her mother may take a while to arrive, and it can be risky to take a taxi at night. Take my car and give Morton your address. He’ll come to pick up the car from your place tomorrow morning.”

keys with a slight smile. “Thank you, Mr. Stan.”

Elsa held the little girl’s hand and entered the nearby Burger King. As she turned around, she saw Stan’s tall figure walking to the side of the road. He hailed a car and got in.

When the taxi had departed, Elsa shifted her gaze and lowered her head, asking the little girl what she wanted to eat.

Elsa dialed the numbers one by one. Either the numbers were invalid or the people on the other end responded rudely, insulting her. When she reached number 8, she verified the information with the person on the line and confirmed that it was the little girl’s mother.

A few minutes later, a young woman rushed into Burger King, anxiously looking around. When she spotted the little girl with Elsa, she hurried over.

“Kelly!”

“Mummy!” The little girl jumped off her chair and ran into her mother’s arms.

The woman held her tightly, crying in pain, “I’m sorry, Mommy didn’t take good care of you. Mama was going crazy looking for you…”

Elsa watched the scene of the mother and daughter embracing, her eyes welling up with tears. It reminded her of when she was a child and went to an amusement park with her mother. She mischievously let go of her mother’s hand and ran off to play, scaring her mother. When they found each other at the broadcasting station, her mother scolded and cried at her.
