Chapter 24
Standing up, I stared at his dead body but felt nothing. Nothing but emptiness. My body and soul felt detached from reality.
Blood still oozed out of his neck at a slower rate, soaking into the golden sand. I stared at his corpse in disbelief. I didn't know how long I stood there as I listened to my heartbeat erratically beating. The noise of the waves crashing on the shore faded into the background, leaving my heartbeat and my breaths the only noise entering my ears.
I snapped out of my stare and walked towards the sea. Adrenaline slowly left my body and my heart slowed down.
Stopping in front of the sea, I sat down into the warm sand and held my knees closer. My head rested on top of my knees, uncontrollable tears rolled down my face onto my forearms. My body relaxed as the sea salty breeze ruffled my hair.
I listened to the wild waves that were crashing into the shore. A sense of relief filled my heart. I was finally free of him and I could breathe with ease. Now he wouldn't be able to hurt anyone. But the pain I felt for my dead families remained. The only thing that changed was, that justice was served.
My thoughts went to Luca. Would he be happy I avenged everyone? If I didn't kill him I would be still in that room, locked waiting for him to use me again.
What now? Where am I going to go? I needed to find Sin. I hoped he was alive and well. I couldn't bear the thoughts of being alone again.
I sat on that beach for what felt like hours, drowning in my thoughts. I soaked up the sunshine and salty air. I had my eyes closed and my head leaned back facing the cloudless sky.
I concentrated on the sound of the sea when I felt a hand on my shoulder. I froze, my eyes shot open and widened instantly. I pulled away from the person behind me and quickly turned around holding one of the knives I had, ready to fight.
Familiar onyx eyes stared at me, pain and misery marred his handsome face. At the sight of him, my body relaxed and I let out a long sigh of relief. Sin was kneeling in front of me, his eyes roamed over my face.
"Sin!" I exclaimed.
He gave me slight smile and looked at me with so much adoration my heart skipped a beat. I threw the blade away and leapt towards him. I put my hands behind his neck and hugged him tightly as if he was my lifeline. He instantly moved his arms around my waist. I inhaled his scent and happiness enveloped me. I couldn't help the wide smile as I closed my eyes and enjoyed the familiarity.
We pulled away but he still held my waist. He connected his forehead to mine "I love you, I don't know what I'd do if I lost you" he said with a shaky voice.
"I love you too" I looked into his eyes. He smiled wide and I couldn't resist kissing his lips. The kiss was sweet and gentle and I was savouring every second of it.
Once we pulled away I stood up, dusted my pants and glanced towards the house. Erik's werewolves were checking around, he was on his knees facing Torben's son holding him by his shoulders and talking to him. The boy wiped his face and nodded.
My eyes shot toward Torben's body, it was gone. There was only a deep red patch in the sand that was left behind him.
"Where's Torben's body?" I glanced around the beach, looking for him.
"Erik had him removed. He didn't want Thorin to see him"
"How did you kill all of them?" he cocked his head to the side and narrowed his eyes at me.
"Well," I cleared my throat "I drank werewolfs blood. It gave me so much power, much more than human blood would" I nervously bit my lip. As far as I knew, no vampire ever drank werewolf blood. Vampires had no idea of the power it would give them.
He was staring at me with wide eyes, his eyebrows shot high on his forehead. I couldn't help but chuckle at this facial expression.
From behind us, I heard Erik's voice "you better keep her on leash Sin" humour laced his deep voice.
We turned around to face him. He was there standing alone. "How are you, Reine" his voice tinged with concern and his eyebrows furrowed. Then he opened his arms to hug me. I leaned into his warm embrace. "I'm ok now"
"Looks like we're late for the party" he gestured for the house full of the dead werewolves.
"If I knew you were coming, I'd leave a few of them for you"
"I'm sorry it took us so long, Sin was badly injured and to find this place took us ages." Said Erik, a pang of guilt glistened in his eyes.
"I managed," I shrugged my shoulders.
"We better get out of here" suggested Sin. I nodded in agreement.
Few days after we returned to Erik's territory, me and Sin decided to leave. It was a new beginning for us. We were madly in love and wanted to find a new home.
Erik insisted that we were always welcome in his pack but Thorin was now a member of his pack and I felt uncomfortable staying there knowing I killed his father.
I stood in the back garden of the house I used to call home before I was turned into a vampire, staring at the graves of my family.
Sin stood next to me holding my hand as tears slowly ran down my cheeks. "I hope you found your peace," my quiet voice slowly resonated in the overgrown garden " I will always love you...you will always be in my heart" my voice was shaky. I placed flowers on each grave then stood there for few minutes reminiscing over everyone.
A small smile appeared on my face. I would always have memories of them and no one would ever take them away from me. I glanced at Sin and gave him a nod, telling him I was done. We both turned around and left.
Erik won the selection of being the ruling Alpha of Europe. With that, he stopped slavery. If humans wanted to work, they would get paid and treated respectfully. Humans selected their own government and ruled alongside Erik and the vampire council. They worked together and everyone thrived. For once, life was good.
Me and Sin travelled across Europe. We got a few invites from other clans to join but we were set on travelling and seeing the world. Who knew what's going to bring us the next few years or decades.
The end.
