The Returning EX (Sophia and John)

Chapter 2197

Chapter 2197 You’ve Passed
A few moments later, Cindy heaved a sigh of relief and said, "Phew! I didn't know acting was so tiring. I always thought it was
easy for Ian."
"Haha, that's because you two have different purposes to serve, but I must say that you're a pretty good actress. Have you
thought of venturing into the entertainment industry with Ian?" Serena responded with a smile.
"No thanks! I don't belong there, and I will never fit in. I witnessed a lot of shady stuff when I worked as his assistant previously.
Furthermore, I'm pretty happy with my current nine-to-five job." Cindy told Serena how she felt about that idea while waving her
hand.
"Oh, come on. Do you know how many people have done all they could to get famous but failed?" Serena asked with a smile.
However, Cindy didn't seem to agree with Serena's point of view, thinking many people insisted on venturing into the industry
despite knowing it wasn't a place for the kindest. The only reason she refused to venture into the entertainment industry was that
she wasn't ambitious about building her career in that domain. After all, she was content with her status quo as long as she and
Ian had enough money to get by. Besides, she was more concerned about their mental welfare and quality of life rather than
luxury and materialism.
In the meantime, Serena had no idea where to go; she was only making up an excuse to leave when she told Lucy she wanted
to go shopping, but since Cindy wanted to tag along, she decided to take her to a nearby shopping mall to kill time. On the other
hand, Cindy was not a person who enjoyed shopping.
Thus, when neither of them bought anything upon strolling around the mall for a while, they figured it was probably time for them
to make a move and took a cab back to the office. They arrived at the company just as their break ended. Then, they exchanged
gazes in front of Serena's office without saying a word before parting ways. Despite the silent interaction, the two ladies seemed
to mutually understand each other's minds.
Soon, Cindy returned to her desk and continued with her work while Serena went through all her design drafts before visiting the
Altering and Tailoring Department with Cindy. In reality, many other employees visited that department to tailor their own dresses.
Cindy was no exception as she had learned sewing in school and was required to tailor a dress before she could graduate.
Aware of Cindy's outstanding talent in sewing, Serena brought a sewing machine for her to practice. To Serena's surprise, Cindy
appeared calm and natural when using it, which clearly proved her talent.

Then, Serena gave Cindy a simple draft and told her to tailor an outfit while adding her own flair to it. While the draft was not
complicated, it was a men's formal slack shirt with the labeled sizes written there. Upon skimming through the draft, Cindy
grabbed the sewing tape and some fabric before she started working on it. At the same time, Serena only stood aside and
observed her in silence.
As Cindy worked on her assigned task, she was reminded of her old days in school. Despite the time limit given in all her
tailoring tests, she consistently managed to secure a spot in the first three places almost every time. Therefore, even though she
might not have used a sewing machine in a while, she barely struggled with any issue she came across, taking a deep breath
when she completed her tailoring without a hitch.
At that moment, Cindy had a flashback about a joke she used to tell Naomi, saying they were destined to work with sewing
machines while their peers worked in big offices after graduation. Nonetheless, her life took an unexpected turn when she chose
another path instead.
Then, she thought about the words Naomi once told her. I wish I could be like you, but either way, you're free now. You won’t
have to be tied down by a sewing machine anymore. Despite all her sentimental memories, Cindy didn't expect that she would
one day get her hands on a sewing machine again.
While placing her foot on the pedal comfortably, Cindy seemed to have good muscle memory about using the machine like it was
second nature, which enabled her creativity when piecing and sewing the fabric together. Thanks to her superb muscle memory,
she had no problem applying the right amount of pressure on the pedal at all.
In the meantime, Serena continued to stand aside, folding her arms with an emotionless look on her face. Although she had
seen many talented people who were gifted and diligent, she saw something else in Cindy even though she was not her most
outstanding mentee.
She has patience, which is a commendable trait. When Cindy was done, she took a closer look at the outfit and carefully
examined every single detail before responding with a nod. "Good, you've passed."
