The Reckoning of Love ( Sophia Yancey )

The Reckoning of Love Chapter 49

Chapter 49 The CEO’s Woman

Her words hung heavy in the air.

Everyone in the room was silent as they stared at Sophia.

Thomas’ face relaxed, and he couldn’t hide his laughter anymore. “What Miss Yancey said makes a lot of

sense.

The man with the rolled-up sleeves before stood up angrily and slammed the table again. “Are you trying to avoid discussion?!”

Gavin hastily tried to smooth things over again. “Calm down! Calm down!” As he tried to soothe the man, he looked at Sophia. “Miss Yancey, we really need to discuss this matter carefully. It’s never good to be impulsive. If the construction gets delayed, it would be the company’s loss!”

Sophia looked at Gavin, perplexed. “Impulsive? Mr. Quinlan, I’m just stating facts. Do you find any fault in my proposed solution?”

Gavin was speechless. The smile on his face dropped. It was terribly upsetting to get treated so nonchalantly by a woman.

Gavin looked at Thomas. This man must be of a higher rank than she was. When did he give this woman the right to cause a scene? “Mr. Ulmer, look, the two of you came all the way to solve this issue. Why are you letting Miss Yancey stir up a storm?”

Thomas glanced at him and shrugged half-heartedly. “Miss Yancey represents the company, and whatever she says is what the company thinks.

That shut Gavin up.

Sophia, on the other hand, was calm and relaxed. It was written all over her face; she was gauging how they would continue to act.

He gritted his teeth in indignation and then turned to the villagers. “Everyone, you’ve heard what they said. Miss Yancey is of a higher status than me. She works closely with the president and has full power to call the shots. So, you don’t have to hold back. Put forward your demands if there are any!”

Everyone looked at one another unsurely. Before this, everyone was filled with anger. Now that Gavin said that, it meant that they could start discussing the money. “We understand that your project has already reached this far, and making a bypass would be a waste of money and manpower. How about this-30 million dollars, and we move the grave. The man with rolled-up sleeves held out two fingers triumphantly.

Thomas almost choked on his saliva. “Thirty million?”

The man was almost bursting with triumph. “If you decide to make a bypass, you’ll lose more than 30 million dollars. He folded his arms and acted as if the company was at their mercy. “A lot of people will be affected by the relocation of their ancestral burial sites Losing this sum of money is just a trivial matter. In case of illnesses, this money becomes a matter of life and death.

A man in the crowd cried out, “Exactly! What’s 30 million compared to more than 150 million!!”

Another man yelled. “That’s the best we can do. We’re gambling the lives of the whole village to save you from losing more than 150 million! Take it or leave it!

The room broke out in chaos. However, Sophia’s face remained unchanged and calm as she tolerated the

noise.

Thomas had a feeling that Sophia already had a solution to this. He thought about Joseph’s call last night and simply sat calmly beside Sophia.

When the villagers continued making a fuss but to no avail, they looked at each other before slowly quieting down.

Gavin, on the other hand, began to panic. “Mr. Ulmer, Miss Yancey, what do you two mean by this? They’ve agreed to settle things. Even if we’re not satisfied, we have to meet in the middle, right? Otherwise, what’s the point of the discussion?”

Sophia glanced at Gavin with a smile. “Just wait a second.”

When Gavin saw Sophia for the first time, he felt extremely restless. Not once in his life had he seen such a beautiful woman; even her figure was gorgeous! However, she was the CEO’s woman back then, so he didn’t dare to make a move on her. This time, before she came, the news about Joseph and Sophia’s breakup spread like wildfire across Cleyrora. He didn’t expect her to be still cocky even without someone like Joseph backing her up!

Gavin stared at her lustfully. When this matter was over, he must get a good taste of the president’s secretary!

Just as he was about to drool, Gavin snapped back to reality and said, “Okay, take your time to think about it.”

As soon as he said that, Gavin’s phone rang. He took a look and noticed it was a call from home. His first thought was to decline it.
