The Reckoning of Love Chapter 41
Chapter 41 Car Accident
Outside the door, there was no one to be seen as Howard had already left, a fact that greatly pleased Joseph.
Subconsciously, he cast a glance at Sophia, who was walking forward with her gaze lowered, her facial features cold and void of any expression.
“I thought he was extremely determined,” Joseph mocked.
Sophia remained silent, ignoring him.
The two were walking toward the elevator in a line when Joseph’s phone started ringing. When he looked down and saw that Vivian was the one calling him, his face visibly darkened and he hung up on her without any hesitation.
Just then, the doors to the elevator opened, followed by two children who sped out while fooling around, rushing headfirst into Sophia.
“Careful!” Joseph yelled, yanking her into his arms to protect her from the hit.
“I’m so sorry! The kids weren’t paying attention!” Seeing that, the children’s parents immediately apologized.
As Joseph’s expression remained stormy, the two young boys hurriedly joined their parents’ apology.
Meanwhile, Sophia looked at them gently. “You have to be careful next time. If you really end up hurting someone, you’ll cause a lot of trouble for your parents!”
“Okay…” the children mumbled sheepishly in reply.
After their parents apologized profusely once more, they left while strictly reprimanding their children.
“All right, let go.”
Joseph’s arms were still wrapped around Sophia’s waist. Before she brought it up, he hadn’t noticed this at all, but now that she had said so…..
Immediately, he tightened his grip even more. “No, I won’t.”
Sophia was rendered speechless. What on earth was he up to? In the past, he would never act this intimate with her in public, not even in front of people like Thomas who were aware of their relationship, but he was getting up to all kinds of tricks now that they had broken up. Was he just unhappy because she had dumped him first?
With Sophia in his arms, Joseph dragged her into the elevator. “Stop dilly-dallying. Thomas is still waiting
While he seemed like he was in a good mood, Sophia felt uncomfortable. “Mr. Lynch, there are cameras in
the elevator
“So what?
“Didn’t you tell me to keep my distance from you whenever there are cameras?” Sophia glared at him. Joseph frowned. It seemed that he had said something like that in the past, and it should also be the case.
Just then, Sophia’s phone rang with a call from Vivian, putting a stop to all of her emotions that were caused by Joseph.
Glancing at her phone, he frowned and asked, “Who is this?”
Before Sophia answered the call, she spat in reply, “Your mom.”
Joseph was about to stop her, but it was already too late.
“Mrs. Zeigler,” Sophia greeted in a polite yet distant tone.
“Pass the phone to Joseph. I know the two of you are together, Vivian demanded without holding back, sounding as if she was about to eat Sophia up.
“All right.”
Sophia handed her phone to Joseph without looking at him. Vivian’s tone made her feel humiliated all of a sudden, as if she had been stripped bare and tossed on the street.
Joseph took the phone from her and said into the receiver, “Mom…”
“Miss Hathaway got into a car accident. Hurry up and come back!”
“Car accident?” Joseph repeated, his arm loosening from Sophia’s waist.
At that moment, the elevator arrived on the first floor, and Sophia let out a small breath before walking out. Then, she stood by the door, waiting for foseph to return her phone to her.
A beat later, she heard Joseph reply, “I’ll head over immediately.”
