The Reckoning of Love Chapter 38
Chapter 38 Howard’s Line of Reasoning
Just as she expected, it was the anxious Howard. “Sophia, were you asleep? You didn’t answer my phone calls, nor did you respond when I rang your doorbell! It really scared me, you know,” he said while patting his chest. “Good thing that you’re okay, or I would’ve called the police!”
“I was asleep. What’s the matter?”
“Check the time, princess! It’s time for dinner!” Howard’s eyes had love written all over them. “I noticed that you are little for lunch. Was it because the food was too strong for your palate? What about we have Greek food for dinner? It’s lighter!”
Before Sophia could turn him down instantly, his eyes looked over her shoulder.
Sophia was lost for words. A moment later, an overcoat was draped around her shoulders. “You forgot your overcoat, Joseph grumbled as if he were her husband.
“Why are you here?” asked Howard in shock.
Joseph didn’t even look at him. Instead, he raised his hand and lifted Sophia’s long hair out of her overcoat. “Is it weird for me to be here? I’m her man”
Joseph Lynch!” Sophia and Howard shouted almost simultaneously.
The next moment, however, Howard’s gaze rested upon Sophia’s neck. She had a fair complexion, so her skin tended to get red very easily.
Joseph knew full well how to use just the right amount of strength,
Howard stared at the red mark on Sophia’s neck, which stung his eyes sharply. However innocent he was, he was a grown-up, after all. How could he not recognize a hickey?
Detecting Howard’s gaze, Sophia realized that she had fallen for Joseph’s trick, but she thought it was a good thing. Perhaps Howard would give up so that she no longer had to waste her breath trying to make him fall out of love with her.
Unexpectedly, however….
“You forced yourself on her, you b”stard!” swore Howard before he raised his fist and charged toward Joseph.
Sophia was totally stunned by Howard’s line of reasoning. Before she could stop him, however, Joseph twisted his arms behind his back and pinned him to the wall, saying, “Howard Zachman, you’re still breastfeeding, aren’t you? And now you’re trying to steal someone’s woman?”
Joseph, don’t do this!” Sophia stepped forward in an attempt to pull them apart.
“Look at this brat. What can he do for you? Can he protect you?” Joseph squeezed Howard hard while holding him down.
At once, Howard’s face turned as white as a sheet; it went without saying that he must be in a great deal of pain.
“That’s enough, Joseph!”
Seeing how furious Sophia seemed, Joseph immediately shoved Howard out through the door without
doing anything else. Tm warning you for the first and last time, Mr. Zachman. Sophia is mine, and I’ll make life a living hell for whoever dares to have their eyes on her!”
Sophia was absolutely shocked. Does this son of a b*tch know what it means when a relationship is over?! “Howard-she said, wanting to check on Howard.
Joseph grabbed the back of her neck, dragging her back right away before slamming the door shut with a loud bang.
Jo-
Joseph kissed her with incredible ferocity before she could unleash her anger.
Sophia tried to bite him, but having learned from his previous experience, he pinched her jaw to prevent her from doing so. In the end, he didn’t end the extremely aggressive kiss until she felt as though her brain was going to melt from the heat.
Joseph cupped her cheeks in both hands while gasping for breath. At this moment, they were so close that his nose almost touched hers, and he looked at her like a beast inspecting its prey.
Sophia’s attractive eyes were glazed over. Her face was pale from lack of oxygen, but her ears were so red as though they were going to bleed, and her lips were swollen from congestion. After such a long time, there was finally a moment when she looked the way he used to be familiar with-the way that belonged to him. “How beautiful.” He lowered his head and kissed her tenderly on the lips.
Coming to her senses, Sophia immediately pushed him away. Then, she took a few steps back and was about to open the door to check on Howard.
“The way you look right now will only provoke him even more if he sees you, don’t you think?” Joseph’s voice was tinged with mockery, like a demon’s whisper.
