The Reckoning of Love ( Sophia Yancey )

The Reckoning of Love Chapter 34

Chapter 34 Death Threat

Did Howard cling to her so much just because he wanted to be friends with her? No way. However, putting the baby in her womb aside, she had no desire whatsoever to get into a relationship with this man. Each rich and powerful family had a dark side of its own; having seen too many tragedies over the five years she had been with Joseph. Sophia wasn’t interested in making a living in such an abyss of suffering. ‘Now that we’ve had lunch, it’s time to go home,” she said, giving Howard a way out before continuing to walk

As soon as she picked up her feet, though, Howard grabbed her arm.

Dumbfounded, Sophia turned sideways to look at him.

Just forget about what happened in the past,” Howard said seriously. “I only care about our future.”

Startled, Sophia jerked her arm back. “Get a grip on yourself, Howard! We’re not fit for each other!”

“How is that so? I think we’re fit for each other in every aspect!” Howard insisted stubbornly.

Sophia felt very helpless. T’m older than you, and lots of people in your circle know about my relationship with Joseph-

“I don’t mind!” replied Howard firmly

“But I do!” Sophia grew serious. “Howard, do you really have no idea that you don’t have a say in your future marriage?”

Howard was stunned.

Sophia continued, “I got involved with Joseph back then because I had no other choice. Do you know how many people are laughing at me now that I’m pulling out because of his marriage? I’ve had enough of experiencing this kind of thing just once. I’ll never put myself through the same thing again!”

I won’t be like him- Howard hurriedly said.

Just then, Sophia suddenly looked ahead with a frown “Is that your car?

Howard followed her gaze, and his brows knitted as well

They quickly strode over to his silver SUV. Its windows were all smashed, and it was dented in several places “Who did this? Howard had never come across something like this before

in this. I’ll get someone from the office to take care of this.”

“You mean Joseph Lynch?” blurted Howard.

Sophia smelled a hint of jealousy. “How could Mr. Lynch possibly care about such a trifle?” she replied helplessly. “Let’s call the police first.”

They reported this to the police, and just as she expected, when the police accessed the surveillance footage, it was found that the surveillance camera in the area wasn’t functioning and thus didn’t capture anything. Howard, who lived in an ivory tower, was outraged.

It was already almost 4.00PM when they returned to the hotel after all that hassle. On their way back, Sophia made a call to Gavin to reschedule this afternoon’s meeting for tomorrow.

A worried Howard escorted her to her hotel room. After repeatedly telling her not to open the door to strangers, he went straight to the lobby. I must get another room that’s closer to Sophia’s, he thought.

No sooner had he left than Sophia’s doorbell rang. Thinking that the young man had something else to nag about, she opened the door in resignation. “Mr. Zachman, what are you gonna bend my ear with this -Before she could finish her sentence, though, her eyes stared in shock at the person before her. “Why are

“Get in!” Joseph pushed her on the shoulder.

Sophia stumbled a few steps back; by the time she wanted to step forward to stop the man, he had entered the room and slammed the door shut with a loud bang that made her heart shudder. “Mr. Lynch, if there’s something you want to talk about, let’s talk outside!” she said in a grim voice, recalling his bad behavior on the cruise ship.

“Outside, eh?” Joseph closed in on her, step by step.

Sophia subconsciously stepped back with a frown to avoid him.

“Aren’t you afraid of being seen by your new lover if I get out right now?” Joseph radiated coldness through every pore. “When did you get to know that Zachman guy? When did you two get so intimate? What did you two do together while coming out here behind back?”
