Chapter 26
Chapter 26
He had no feelings for me, so I couldn’t understand why he insisted on me moving back to Hovilham
Residence.
I was speechless.
The more he acted this way, the less I wanted to listen to him.
“I won’t go back. Stop pressuring me, Gordon.”
“I say it one last time. Move back to Hovilham Residence. Taylor, you better not test my limits!”
His lips were tightly pressed, and a deep frown settled between his brows, clearly on the edge of fury.
Luke had already started the car, speeding along the mountain road.
The eerie atmosphere in the vehicle pushed me to my breaking point.
Given a second chance at life, I swore not to let Gordon manipulate me ever again. Everything I wanted to
do had to be based on my own will.
I was no longer afraid of his threats, nor did I care about his opinions!
“I will not return. Even if you force me back, I will still go back to my parents‘ home!” I made my stance.
clear, my tone even more definitive than his.
Gordon gave me a cold look, one that was indescribably chilling.
It was terrifying and cold. It seemed as if he had run out of patience, sending shivers down my spine.
Suddenly, he ordered Luke in a low growl, “Stop the car, Luke!”
Startled by his command, Luke jerked the vehicle but managed to stop it swiftly.
“The thing I hate the most is a self–centered woman.”
Gordon dropped this cold comment and, without allowing me any retort, grasped my collar and flung me
out of the car as if I weighed nothing to him.
I landed awkwardly on the ground, the stones at the roadside inflicting sharp pain upon me.
The harsh cold wind assaulted my face, its wails echoing through the valley.
Despite it being summer’s peak, the mountain’s night air remained chillingly cool. I couldn’t help but shiver.
As I managed to sit up, Gordon’s Lincoln car had already disappeared into the night.
He was utterly ruthless and devoid of compassion. He abandoned me, a vulnerable woman, on an
isolated mountain road far from any habitation.
Did he not fear for my safety here? Or did he think my life was so insignificant in his eyes?
A sharp pang of pain gripped my heart.

Glancing around in panic, the dark fir trees‘ silhouettes resembled towering specters.
The silhouettes made me tremble with fear as someone who was always fearful of the dark.

I hastily activated my phone’s flashlight and checked my location, confirming I was still on that mountain road’s secluded segment.
Fortunately, it was just 200 yards away from the main road.
Yet, with the city center still over ten miles away and the hour so late, walking back wasn’t a feasible
option.
To prevent any unforeseen incidents, I began moving quickly while dialing Selena’s number.
Π
It was about 10.00 pm now.
When Selena picked up, the din of loud music suggested she was at a nightclub.
“What’s going on, Tay?”
“Selena, I’m sending you my location. Hurry and send someone to pick me up. That damn Gordon left me stranded in the outskirts with no way to get back.”
“What? That bastard Gordon is going to pay for this. Send me your location, I’m on my way!” Her voice soared as she spoke.
After ending the call, I sent her my location.
I made my way to the main road with the faint glow from my phone.
At this late hour, there were hardly any other vehicles in sight besides the occasional truck passing by.
I had never been out so late by myself, and it was impossible not to feel scared.
Suddenly, a truck slowly stopped in front of me.
The rugged–looking driver leaned out, whistling at me and offering a ride with a sinister look.
I was startled and broke into a run instinctively.
Fortunately, an MPV pulled up and stopped right next to me at just the right moment.
